In essence, I am bleeding out at a slow rate with no solution. I am presently not in pain, but am very weak, a condition that will worsen until I am gone," stated Heiser. "Since there are no further treatment options available to us, we have chosen to spend my remaining time at home. We are guessing (we have not been given a number) that this means I'll live anywhere from a week to several weeks."
Beloved Santa Cruz Musician Dan Lamothe Dies
February 23, 2023
It’s been 48 hours since I heard the news, and I still can’t believe it. Dan Lamothe—son, friend, barber, volunteer fireman, ex-bassist and founding member of Stellar Corpses—has died. He died suddenly while training in Ben Lomond to be a firefighter, wanting to give back to the community that gave him so much. Dan—”Mothman,” “Mothy,” or “Big Moth,” as his friends affectionately called him—was only 38, an age that defies all rational explanations of what happened. After learning of his death, I drove around in a daze during the twilight moments of the early morning. I was listening to the title track off Stellar Corpses’ Dead Stars Drive-In album–something I hadn’t heard in years for several personal reasons. I pulled over and parked along the cliffs overlooking the Capitola pier, and as the sun rose, I decided my wrecked soul couldn’t hear the chorus “Dead stars still burn” anymore. The next song, “Be Still My Heart,” opens with the line, “walk with me into the morning sunlight, into a world that’s cold and no one ever makes it out alive.”

Aimee McLean, 34
February 21, 2023
Lima, Ohio - An unexpected tragedy struck our family on Sunday morning, February 19th. My brother lost his best friend. The world lost a wonderful mother, sister, aunt, daughter, nurse/coworker and friend. Aimee had an incident at work on Friday where she fainted. Her awesome coworkers came to her aide and despite their insistence to get checked out, Aimee's selflessness for her children kicked in and she asked to be taken home so she could prep for her son Oliver's birthday party that evening. Saturday went by and more birthday celebrations were had. Josh continuously checked in with Aimee and she insisted she was fine. Typical nurse/mother behavior to make sure everyone else was taken care of. Josh woke up (or rather Gwen woke him up) and he brought his daughter in to wake up her favorite person in the whole universe, Aimee. Then our world was changed forever when he had to make the dreadful 911 call after she had fainted a second time. Emergency personnel were swift and did everything they could to resuscitate her. She was transported to St. Rita's with Josh shortly behind but despite all efforts made she was pronounced dead at 8:53 am. She was 34.
