In this fight to regain our beloved republic, recall -- as this song bids us do -- that Love and Mirth are on our side. "The myrtle of Venus and Bacchus's vine!"

Oak, Ash, and Thorn performed the Anacreontic Song (sometimes called 'Anacreon in Heaven') at Berkeley's Freight and Salvage in the early 1980s (as sleuthed out in the comments to this rendition).

Recognize the tune?

Hurrah for the Old Republic! Hurrah for Old Ironsides!

And now the Freight and Salvage requires full vaccinations and masks! No exemptions!

Sweet - a journey back to the late 1700's and the creative source for 'that anthem'. This is a reminder that there is more beneath the surface of what comprises those popular tunes. Uplifting to hear - thanks for sharing and cheers!
