Procol Harum lyricist Keith Reid - who wrote their famous hit A Whiter Shade of Pale - dies aged 76 following cancer treatment

Keith Reid, the lyricist for English rock band Procol Harum, has died aged 76. The band, known for their 1967 hit A Whiter Shade Of Pale, confirmed Keith's passing in a Facebook post they shared on Wednesday. The group revealed that Keith, who was from Hertfordshire, had been receiving treatment for cancer and 'died suddenly' in London last Thursday. The statement read: 'It is with the deepest sadness that we must announce the passing of the lyricist Keith Reid, who died suddenly on 23 March 2023, in hospital in London. He had been receiving cancer treatment for the past couple of years. Keith was the co-founder and lyricist for the band Procol Harum, notably penning their biggest hit A Whiter Shade of Pale, which contains some of the most enigmatic lyrics of all time’.

TV and radio icon Paul O'Grady, who was well known for his drag queen persona Lily Savage, died 'unexpectedly but peacefully' on Tuesday evening. Paul O'Grady was suffering with an illness during his final year at Radio 2, it has been reported. Prior to his sad death, the TV and radio legend had been shocked by how badly Covid-19 affected him and how long its effects lasted. The 67-year-old presenter, who has previously had two heart attacks, was unable to work for two months last year. He then got in touch with his cardiologist due to feeling like he may never recover. Paul said: "I managed to escape Covid until last year and then I caught it. I didn’t half get it; I was really ill. All I did was sleep. I’d wake up, go downstairs and sit on the couch and then pass out for another four hours. I’d get up, have a cup of tea and then go back to bed and sleep all night, it was very odd. I just felt terrible with it. I’ve never slept so much in my life. I’d had all the jabs, but it just finished me off."

Jessica Whalley - who was said to have represented the United Kingdom in the 2019 Miss Tourism Universe pageant - passed away days before her 26th birthday on Tuesday (28 March) after paramedics were unable to revive her. “She was such a lovely girl who really enjoyed her job. She was popular - everyone liked her and she was a lovely young woman. This is so unexpected, she was so fit and healthy. We have been told that it was a very sudden," the friend said, "so it has come as a terrible shock." In a statement on Tuesday, Cheshire Police said: "At around 8.50 am today, police were made aware that a 25-year-old woman had collapsed at a stables on Old Coach Road, Malpas. Emergency services attended the location and, despite the best efforts of all those involved, the woman sadly died at the scene.”

Her career began over 35 years ago running commercial hotels and restaurants before she turned to contract catering. It was at High Table Catering that Lindner met Mike Sunley, with whom she went on to develop Lexington alongside Lewis and Kirby.

Instead, she has handed over her place after the tragic death of her husband early in March. Neil Tattersall, 50, a member of the Royal Anglian Regiment, died suddenly of heart failure while training in Austria with his military colleagues. In his honour, fellow soldier, Sgt Adam Gilroy RAPTC, from 216 (Parachute) Signal Squadron, is taking Mrs Tattersall’s place and hopes to complete the 26-mile run.

Turner, who had been in the role since March 2016, passed away suddenly on Thursday night. In a statement, his parents Jen and David said: "Words cannot describe our sadness following the loss of our beloved son, Jason.”

A teenager died suddenly in a shop on one of Glasgow's busiest streets. Emergency crews were called to Sauchiehall Street yesterday afternoon. Cops confirmed a 19-year-old man passed away suddenly at the premises. They do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Martin Bargent died suddenly from a major heart attack on March 10, 2023 – devastating people who adored him. He was on his way home from being out with some work colleagues when he fell ill and when he arrived home his wife called an ambulance and he was taken to hospital where he sadly died. Leanda Bargent, Martin’s wife, said: ‘He was just my absolute world. He has been like a guardian angel really, he looked after me and my boys – it is just so sad, he wanted to retire this year and we had so many plans.’ The 69-year-old was born and raised in Portsmouth and spent decades of his life playing hockey with Havant Hockey Club, forming friendships and bonds with his team mates who are devastated the loss of a ‘kind and generous’ person.

Officers investigating fatal collision in Wigan after driver suffers suspected medical episode

At approximately 7:35 pm on Monday 27 March 2023, officers were called to reports of a collision on Gidlow Lane in Wigan. A car is reported to have been travelling along Gidlow Lane when it mounted the pavement between Diamond Street and Emerald Street. It then continued moving and further collided with a garden wall of a residential property before coming to stop. The driver was suspected to have suffered a serious medical episode and was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since tragically passed away.

Police find body in search for woman who vanished during 10-minute walk

A body has been found in the search for a woman who went missing after going out for a 10-minute walk. Lancashire Police found the body of Rachel Jackson, 38, who was last seen in the Wadham Road area of Avenham, Preston , at 7m on Friday, 31 March. She had been spending the evening with friends before telling them she needed to go out for air for 10 minutes. However, her friends were left worried after she failed to return to the property. “We only thought she was going out for 10 minutes so we didn’t think anything of it.” Lancashire Police have now confirmed that the body of a woman has been found in a nearby park. The body is yet to be formally identified but police believe it is Rachel Jackson. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.
