ALGERIA
Zahia Mentouri is confirmed dead at far too young an age (74-75)

Zahia was best known as a Algerian physician and government official. Zahia Mentouri-Chentouf (1947 –2022) was an Algerian physician and government official who served as the Algerian Minister of Health and Social Affairs in 1992.
Mentouri was born in 1947 in French Algeria. In 1952, her parents emigrated to France with her brother and sister, but Mentouri was left behind in Constantine in the care of her aunt and uncle.
Following Algerian independence in 1962, Mentouri was optimistic about Algeria's future as a socialist state, studying medicine and volunteering in healthcare in rural parts of Algeria. She also set up pediatric intensive care units in several Algerian cities. Mentouri was later appointed rector of Annaba University, where she established a school of medicine. On 22 February 1992, Mentouri was appointed the Minister of Health and Social Affairs in the government of Prime Minister Sid Ahmed Ghozali.
However, during the Algerian Civil War, President Mohamed Boudiaf was assassinated on 29 June 1992; as a result, Ghozali's government was dissolved, with Mentouri resigning as health minister on 19 July 1992. After Mentouri refused to establish an Islamist university, she began receiving death threats, forcing her to flee from Algiers.
Mentouri was also a researcher for the National Agency for the Development of Health Research, and served as director of the Thematic Agency for Research and Health Science.
Mentouri died on 12 July 2022.
She lives in Oran but is temporarily staying with a friend in Paris for medical treatment that is not possible in her own country. Zahia Mentouri's death was likely due to unknown.

Congolese Student found dead in Entebbe

The police at Entebbe are investigating the death of Kahumo Christian, a 23-year-old Congolese and second year student of software engineering at Sapali Institute of Technology and Management. The deceased was a resident of Bugiri-Bukasa village, Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy PRO KMP, it is alleged that on Thursday 14th 07, 2022, Kahumo’s classmate realized that he had missed lectures for two days. This prompted the classmate to look for him at his rented room, where he was discovered dead.
The body was picked up by police and conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for postmortem. Owoyesigyire says they have also recorded statements and the incident is currently under investigation as a sudden death since no physical marks were detected on his body.

Togo: a Burkinabè trader dies during a trip to the Savannah region

A Burkinabè trader died on Friday July 8, 2022, in Mango, the second most important city after Dapaong, in the Savanes region in the Center-North of Togo. He was returning from Cotonou (Benin) aboard a public transport bus, according to the Togolese Press Agency (Atop).
“We left Cotonou on Thursday July 7 around 10 p.m. (local time) via Kétao before arriving this Friday in Mango. In the bus, the young person asked that I stop so that he vomits. After the stop, he goes out, relieves himself and suddenly gives up the ghost,” testified the bus driver....
“It is not a disease with epidemiological risk”, reassured Dr. Ani Massantam after an examination of the corpse and with reference to the medical certificate of the deceased. The doctor nevertheless declared that the traveler suffered from a “chronic” pathology according to the health document.
The lifeless body was taken to the morgue in Dapaong (capital of the Savanes region), a commercial town located in northern Togo, 650 km from Lomé and 35 km from the border with Burkina Faso.

Another sad news has struck the Nollywood industry as veteran actress Sola Awojobi Onayiga reportedly died. Reports on the internet claimed that the Fuji House of Commotion actress died on Monday morning, while some stated otherwise. However, a report made available to the public by the Founder of Best of Nollywood Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, revealed that the actress died on Monday morning over a yet-to-be-known sickness.
Taking to Instagram, Seun Oloketuyi wrote: “I have just been informed that the accomplished Stage and Screen Actress and Fellow of Theatre Arts Auntie Sola Awojobi Onayiga has passed on. Auntie Sola who is best known for living delightfully the role of Ireti aka Cooking practicals in the defunct television sitcom ‘CHECKMATE’! Reportedly passed on this morning. Journey well Ma! Journey Well! Posted by Dr shuaibu.” As of the time of filing this report, there is yet to be an official statement regarding the actress’ demise or the reason for her sudden death.

Nollywood actress in the popular The Johnson series, Ada Ameh, is dead. The actress died in Warri, Delta State, around 11pm on Sunday.
A source who pleaded anonymity, said Ameh was a guest of an oil company topshot and his family when she suddenly collapsed. She was rushed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Hospital but passed on before they arrived at the facility.
Born on May 15, 1974, in Ajegunle, Lagos State, the popular actress had shared a video of herself eating with the family around 12:53pm on Sunday on her official Instagram page before death came calling later at night.

Actress Ada Ameh has died. She died in a hospital in Delta state on Sunday, July 17. She was 48 years old.
She was said to have been a guest of an oil company’s topshot and his family when she suddenly slumped during a gathering.

Ada lost her only child in October 2020 and in June 2022, she mentioned that she was battling a mental illness.

Tinubu’s ally Kemi Nelson dies at 66

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State, Mrs Kemi Nelson is dead. She was aged 66.
Nelson was said to have died after a brief illness.
APC Spokesman in Lagos, Mr. Seye Oladejo, who confirmed the death, described it as, “tragic and very sad.”
She was one of the close loyalists of APC Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Netflix star Busisiwe ‘Busi’ Lurayi dead: ‘How to Ruin Christmas’ actress was 36

Busisiwe “Busi” Lurayi, star of the Netflix comedy series “How to Ruin Christmas,” has died at her home in South Africa. She was 36.
Lurayi’s family confirmed that she passed “suddenly” in a statement on the official Instagram account of her Johannesburg-based talent agency, Eye Media Artists.
“We are deeply saddened to notify you of the passing of our beloved Busisiwe Lurayi,” the post reads. “Busisiwe passed away suddenly and was pronounced dead at her residence on Sunday [July 10, 2022] by medical personnel.”
The official cause of “death is still unknown as we await the results of the autopsy report,” the family added. “We humbly request that you allow us as the family to come to terms with this tragic news.”

Another Prominent ANC Member Dies

Most of us are aware that death is an unavoidable reality of life, and that it will have an impact on each of us in different ways. Unfortunately, no one can anticipate when or how it will happen; but, for the family of a prominent young ANC leader who died suddenly this morning, it will be a difficult reality to accept.
The ANC's reaction to the death of comrade Buyile Bernard Matiwane, the current vice president of the South African Students Congress, has been one of regret and total astonishment (SASCO). He died at home yesterday after a brief illness, although the cause of death has not been disclosed. His death was reported but not confirmed. While he has not been identified, he is most likely between the ages of 30 and 35 years old.

Jessie Duarte, Former Special Assistant to Mandela, Dies at 68

Jessie Duarte, who served as special assistant to former South African President Nelson Mandela after his release from prison, has died. She was 68.
Duarte’s death on Sunday was announced by the South Africa’s ruling party. She had been on medical leave since November undergoing cancer treatment.

Artist Maya Atton has died at the age of 48

Atton, was an Israeli multidisciplinary artist, born in Jerrusalem.
She lived and worked in Tel Aviv, who has exhibited in museums in Israel and around the world and won prestigious awards, died in a complicated medical procedure.
Aton, an acclaimed and award-winning multidisciplinary artist, is considered one of the most prominent active artists in Israel today. She is known for her realistic drawings and works that dealt with the connection between art, myths, conscious and subconscious, science and culture.
At the last exhibition, a month ago, she presented an installation with a linoleum skull and a wall illustration of a woman floating over her bed with her eyes closed.

Dr. Wajih Fanous, the Lebanese literary critic, passed away at 74

Lebanese circles mourned the death of the prominent Lebanese academic Wajih Fanous, who passed away today, Wednesday, at the age of 74. Wajih Fanous served as president of the National Action Symposium, and spent his life researching and writing.
The late served as Secretary-General of the Lebanese Writers Union in 2015, Vice-President of the Arab Writers Union and General Counsel of the General Secretariat of the General Union of Arab Writers and Writers.
Today is one of its cultural, scientific and social pillars, the late head of the Islamic Cultural Center, Dr. Wajih Fanous, owner of the pen, opinion, and the bold and responsible national stance of Beirut.

The Artists Syndicate mourns the departure of composer Mohsen Farhan

Today, Monday, the Iraqi Artists Syndicate mourned the departure of the great composer, Mohsen Farhan.
The union stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that it "mourns the departure of the great artist Mohsen Farhan, who passed away today."
She pointed out that "the late Iraqi composer, born in the city of Kut in 1947 (at 74-75). He has been known for his tunes since the seventies, including "Strange Soul", "they say I sing with joy", "I don't want to help me" and other tunes, and he founded with other Iraqi artists the Iraqi Composers and Authors Association.
