Peter Wilson: Norwich Theatre Royal producer and chief dies at age of 72

A producer who was at the helm of a theatre for close to a quarter of a century has died at the age of 72. Peter Wilson was chief executive of the Theatre Royal in Norwich from 1992 to 2016 and won an Olivier Award for his production of Woman in Black. Lights at the venue will be dimmed for two minutes on Tuesday in his honour. The theatre said everyone had been "saddened" by the news and sent its "sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones". In its statement, current chief executive Stephen Crocker said Wilson's tenure "marked a defining period in our history. His contribution over those 25 years, both to our organisation and the wider Norwich and Norfolk arts sector, was extraordinary and its impact immeasurable."

Violinist Giles Broadbent has died at the age of 51. His death following a “short illness” was announced on Thursday by his family and music group. Broadbent, who was married to former Blue Peter star Diane Louise Jordan, had led orchestras for several West End shows including Sunset Boulevard, Phantom Of The Opera and My Fair Lady. He was also part of the quartet Stringfever – which formed in 2003 – alongside his younger brothers, Ralph and Neal, and cousin Graham. “Although Giles had not been well recently, we as a family are still in shock at his passing,” a statement shared with the PA news agency said.

Tributes have been paid to a 19-year-old politician and campaigner who has died suddenly. Matthew Lock, known as Matty, was a popular member of the Labour Party in Sefton and Merseyside and was recently elected town councillor in Maghull. He was also a parish councillor in Lydiate. Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner is amongst the hundreds of people to have shared their shock and sadness after his death was confirmed by friend, and Sefton Central Labour MP, Bill Esterson. Posting on social media, in aa tribute, he said: "Many people will be devastated by the news that @CllrMLock passed away yesterday. Matty was a lovely young man who had achieved so much and had so many plans for the future. I’m thinking about him, his boundless enthusiasm and about his mum and dad. Rest in Peace, Matty."

Surrey Police have said the force is 'in shock' following the death of one of their young officers. PC Hannah Byrne died suddenly while on holiday on the Greek island of Corfu last week. (1 September) The 22-year-old joined Surrey Police in March last year, and was based at Reigate as part of the Neighbourhood Policing Team. An investigation into the circumstances of her death is being led by authorities in Greece. Chief Superintendent Chris Colley, Divisional Commander for East Surrey, said: “Hannah’s death has been a shock for everyone who knew her.”

His devastated family have been left with no answers following the unexplained tragedy, and are awaiting a coroner’s report. Lauren has urged to take their children to see a doctor for even “the smallest thing” in light of her son’s passing, and without fear of wasting NHS time. Hayden is remembered as “an absolute character” who was good at making people laugh and “would brighten up anyone’s day without even trying.”
Police launch investigation after 'sudden death' of 17-year-old girl

Manchester - An investigation has been launched into the 'sudden death' of a teenage girl in Swinton on Tuesday afternoon (September 5). Police were called out to the scene at a property on Ludlow Avenue by paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service at around 1 pm to reports of a sudden death. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Local residents reported seeing a number of police vehicles and an ambulance descend on the street following the tragedy. An investigation has been launched by Greater Manchester Police to establish the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death with enquiries still ongoing.

Popular former [soccer club West Bromwich] Albion midfielder Ian Hamilton [center] has died aged 55, the club's former players' association have confirmed. Hamilton, fondly known as 'Hammy', was taken ill last year, the association revealed this morning. Hamilton was part of Albion's Division Two play-off success at Wembley in the 1992/93 campaign under Ossie Ardiles after the club had fallen into the third tier but immediately won a return via promotion. He netted one of the crucial Hawthorns goals, the decisive effort in the semi-final second leg comeback win over Swansea, a night and atmosphere still fondly recalled today.

The devastated family of Garry Skeggs, 53, of Dover, have paid tribute to the “most wonderful” dad, grandad, husband, son and brother. Garry, who died on Tuesday (September 5), worked for the Royal Mail for more than three decades, starting when he was only 17. He was perhaps best known for his ‘warm personality’ and left a mark on everyone he met.

Lancashire - The devastated family of a young woman who died suddenly after complaining of a headache described her as "bright and beautiful". Kirsty Hendry was just 31 when she died in April. An inquest has heard how her mother hit out at the care she received at Tameside General Hospital in Greater Manchester. It was alleged that doctors had wrongly dismissed Kirsty's condition as being linked to cannabis use, illegal drug use and her mental health. A number of hospital trust policies weren't followed after her admission in April, the inquest at Stockport Coroner's Court was told. Kirsty suffered a burst brain aneurysm and developed a subarachnoid haemorrhage, bleeding in areas surrounding the brain. The inquest heard that CT scan was wrongly interpreted by a radiologist as well as 'missed' evidence of a bleed on her brain, reports

An English tourist died this morning while at sea in Marina di Ragusa. The man, a 70-year-old, was struck by a sudden illness: he collapsed on the beach to the desperation of his family and the amazement of the swimmers present. The elderly man immediately showed no signs of life and the 118 health personnel who responded to the scene were unable to do anything.

Leicestershire - A man died after falling unwell in a Leicester street. Multiple police and ambulance crews were called to the scene in Painter Street after initial reports of a medical emergency were made. East Midlands Ambulance Service were first called to the scene on Wednesday afternoon, with officers from Leicestershire Police called to assist. Officers arrived at around 2.30 pm following reports of a man being taken unwell. The man reportedly fell ill inside a vehicle. In a statement, police confirmed the man, who has not been identified, was later pronounced dead.

East Kilbride workers take on fundraising challenge after colleague's sudden death

East Kilbride construction workers will take the plunge in Scotland’s biggest charity fundraising challenge following the sudden death of a colleague. Neil Donnan, who spent four-and-a-half years with akp Scotland as a quantity surveyor, died suddenly in January after experiencing a heart attack and brain aneurysm. He was just 42 and leaves behind his wife Stephanie, and two children. Although he had moved on in his career, Neil was still held in high regard by his former akp colleagues who were determined to undertake a challenge in his honour. The five-strong team comprising of John Black, Phil Mycek, Colin McCready, Connor McBride, and Roz Malcolm will abseil the Forth Road Bridge this October to raise funds for Scotland’s leading health charity, Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.
Dad who died after collapsing suddenly helps save others after donating organs

North Wales – A dad-of-three has been posthumously honoured for helping to save other people by donating his organs. Colin James, from Abergele, was one of a number from Wales and Cheshire, who received the Order of St John Award for Organ Donation, which has been run in conjunction with NHS Blood and Transplant, for a decade. The award was given to their families and loved ones on their behalf at a private award ceremony at Chester Town Hall in May 2023. Mr James, a fit and active dad of three, who was said to be always helping others, collapsed one day last summer and was found to have a bleed on his brain. He died in August 2022 just before he was due to have an operation at the Walton Centre in Liverpool. He donated his kidneys and liver, saving lives and helping research. The 57-year-old had worked around the world, most recently working as a gas and plumbing engineer in his local area. He was said to be highly skilled and very handy and was well known in the community for his kind and generous nature.

A well-known and popular Dublin wrestler who died suddenly aged 35 has been remembered by WWE star Becky Lynch as a “special pal”. Tributes have been paid to Dean Merton, known professionally as ‘Alexander Dean’ and ‘Sean South’, who was also a Bohemian FC volunteer following his death on Monday. Known across Ireland and the UK, Ballymun native Merton, who was 35 years old, mainly wrestled in the 2000s. Trained by Fergal Devitt from Bray, known as WWE Grand Slam champion Finn Balor, he also worked out with Rebecca Quin, better known as WWE legend Becky Lynch.

Co. Longford - A midlands town has been left “absolutely heartbroken” following the sudden passing of a young woman who was “loved by everyone who met her”. Twenty-year-old Ciara McKenna, from Longford town, died suddenly yesterday afternoon sparking a huge outpouring of tributes on social media. The former Scoil Mhuire student was a much loved and respected member of staff at local restaurant Take Two. As a mark of respect, the popular Earl Street premises remains closed in the wake of the young Longford woman’s untimely passing. “It is with a very heavy heart that we bring you the heartbreaking news of the sudden passing of our cherished member of staff, Ciara McKenna RIP,” read the post. “Our restaurant will remain closed on Monday 11th as a mark of respect.”

Wicklow - The tightly-knit communities of Ballyconnell, Tullow and Coolkenno have been plunged into deep sadness with the news that beloved father of three Mickey Carroll (34) has passed away after suffering an aneurysm last week. Described as a caring and selfless man who would “go above and beyond to help you out of a bind”, Mickey was a loyal friend, a fantastic father to three boys – Michael (11), Jamie (10) and Tyler (9) – and a cherished brother to his five siblings. Raised in the small village of Ballyconnell, nestled between Coolkenno, Shillelagh and Tullow, Mickey was an avid GAA player in his youth and turned out for Coolkenno GAA up to Junior level.

Mayo, this afternoon (Tuesday) as a good friend to many whose family, especially his son Oran, meant the world to him. Speaking at concelebrated Requiem Mass in St. James’ Church, Dermot Horkan thanked the many who have sympathised and offered support to the Horkan family in the wake of Aidan’s sudden death on Friday last. Dermot, referring to Colm’s tragic death, said it was like ‘déjà vu’. He continued: “Sadly we are down this road again.” Aidan, who was in his fifties, was a skilled tradesman who worked in New York for some years before returning to his native Charlestown.
