Chinese bishop dies from heart attack at 59

Catholic Bishop Peter Wu Junwei of Yuncheng in Shanxi of northern China died from a heart attack on May 10 at the age of 59.
He was ordained a priest in 1990 and consecrated bishop of Yuncheng (Xinjiang) Diocese on Sept. 10, 2010, with approval from both the Vatican and the Chinese government.
Bishop Wu has been hailed for his efforts in evangelization, maintaining church-owned property, construction of places for worship, and catechism training for Catholics during his tenure.
Church sources said the bishop had been ill recently due to stress resulting from his hard work, which intensified during the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to his untimely death.

Brescia mourns Matteo Attianese, pizza maker originally from the lioness who had moved to Thailand for work a few years ago. The 40-year-old was the victim of a very serious car accident while riding his moped.
The exact dynamics of what happened on Tuesday afternoon is not known, but - according to the first reconstruction of the local police forces - Attianese suddenly lost control of the vehicle, being thrown and violently beating his head against a pole. Rescue intervention was immediate, but there was nothing to be done.
The chef, originally from Rezzato, had been in Thailand since 2019 and had opened an Italian restaurant - Frankie's Inn - in the Pattaya area, a well-known tourist resort in the Asian country.

Student, 16, dies while undergoing cross-country training in Terengganu

Marang - A Form Four student died while undergoing cross-country training today. Marang district police chief DSP Mohd Zain Mat Deris said the student, identified as Aman Basri Muhd Rohaizi, 16, was said to have fallen and fainted during the training at about 8.30 am.
Some of his schoolmates attempted to resuscitate the victim, but his condition weakened and the teacher on duty took him to the Pengkalan Berangan clinic for treatment, where a doctor pronounced him dead, he said in a statement today.
He said there were some cuts on the upper part of the right eyebrow, scratches under the left chin, and on the back of the left hand, believed to have occurred when the victim fell. He said physical examination on the victim did not show any foul play and the police had classified the case as sudden death.
No cause of death reported.

Kang Soo-youn, a Korean actor who was a star of 1980s and 1990s film and TV, died on Saturday. She was 55.
She was admitted to hospital in Seoul on Thursday after reportedly suffering a heart attack and being found unconscious. She died in hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage.
Kang was a child star from the 1970s and appeared in multiple films and TV shows in the pre-modern era.

11-yr-old girl with chronic diseases dies after COVID vaccination in Japan

Tokyo - An 11-year-old girl with severe pre-existing conditions died after receiving coronavirus vaccine shots in April, Japan's health ministry reported on May 13.
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare made the report during an expert subcommittee meeting to evaluate vaccine safety.
According to the ministry, a medical institution attributed the cause of the girl's death to "suspected respiratory failure, heart muscle inflammation and cardiac arrest." However, it was not possible to evaluate the exact cause of death and its causal relationship with the COVID-19 vaccination due to a lack of concrete test results.
The expert panel concluded that "serious concerns that could affect the vaccination system can't be recognized."
The 11-year-old received her first coronavirus vaccine on April 7 and the second shot on April 28, according to the health ministry. While she displayed no side effects after the first shot, her condition began to deteriorate the day after the second. She died on April 30.
The girl had serious chronic diseases including brain paralysis, and had been on an artificial respirator since birth. She had been hospitalized since 2014.

The Tiktoker was visiting doctors day today since April after suffering from severe Typhoid fever. Sadly, his condition worsened and he died in ICU yesterday.
She has also concluded the sad post by stating that Eusebio will be cremated on Tuesday morning.
“It is very rare to hear someone dying from typhoid fever in modern times, however, if the bacterial infection is not treated properly it could damage multiple body organs. Therefore, leading to significant problems and even death. Nevertheless, it is very sad that a young and talented human being like Eusebio has suffered an untimely death.”

Daughter of top Australian doctor dies suddenly in her sleep at age 26

A top doctor in Australia says her life is "shattered" after her only daughter died unexpectedly in her sleep. Australian Medical Association South Australia president Michelle Atchison posted the sad news on Twitter, that her 26-year-old daughter Caillin had died on Wednesday.
"The light in our life has gone out. My beautiful and only daughter died yesterday," Dr Atchison wrote on Thursday. "She never woke up. It was so utterly unexpected and my husband and my hearts are shattered. I really don't know what to do."
Dr Atchinson came to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic during which she became a spokesperson for nurses and hospital staff. She also warned South Australia opening its borders in November would put a strain on the healthcare system.

Metricon founder, CEO Mario Biasin dead at 71

Mario Biasin, the founder and chief executive of Metricon Homes, the country’s largest detached home builder, died suddenly on Monday. Metricon announced the death of Mr Biasin, 71, in a statement. It gave no detail about the circumstances of his passing.
“As friends and colleagues of Mario, we are shocked and so saddened by the news,” said long-standing director and major shareholder Ross Palazzesi, who the company said would continue with the business as acting executive chairman. “Our hearts and thoughts are with the Biasin family. Mother of three boys whose husband murdered them all by driving his car into a dam on Father's Day suddenly dies

A Victorian mother whose three children perished at the hands of their father in a case that shocked Australia has suddenly died after a 'medical episode'. Cindy Gambino, 50, passed away despite the best efforts of her husband and medics who tried to revive her on Tuesday.
On Father's Day 2005, Ms Gambino's ex-husband Robert Farquharson drove a car into a dam with their three boys Jai, Tyler and Bailey inside. He left them to die.
Ms Gambino's family issued a statement dubbing Gambino as a 'warrior of justice' since losing her three boys and sharing their 'sincere thanks' to all who supported her.
Ms Gambino attracted sympathy across the nation after Farquharson was convicted of the horrific triple murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole some two years after the crime.
Her death, which was completely unexpected, has brought 'deep sadness' to the 'shattered' family.

The family of Ian Thorpe's former long-term boyfriend Ryan Channing have vowed to seek answers following the successful businessman's sudden death in Bali at the age of 32. Channing, a model, lawyer and skincare brand creator from Perth, Western Australia, was rushed to a local hospital on Sunday, where he later died.
He was based in Australia but regularly flew to the Indonesian holiday isle and Los Angeles for business.
Channing shared a close bond with his younger brother Jake, who confirmed the shock death of his 'beautiful big brother' in an emotional tribute on Wednesday.
He ended the post stressing that Ryan's death wasn't Covid-related after he recently contracted contracted the virus.
Ryan Channing's shattered family have vowed to seek answers of his shock death. Their Perth-based sister Charis wrote: 'Saying goodbye to you on Sunday was the hardest thing my family and I have ever had to do. 32 years young, you're gone too soon.’
A friend told News Corp that Channing, a successful businessman, had been 'battling health issues' for some time.
'Everyone is distraught,' one close friend said. 'It is just so sad and everyone is shocked.'
Channing was the first long term boyfriend of former Olympic swimming champion Thorpe after coming out as gay. The pair were in an on-again, off-again relationship for four years until they split for good in 2019.
Channing's last Instagram post was a photo from Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital eight weeks ago after testing positive to the virus. 'Covid got me GEWD (good)', he told his 21,000 followers. However, it's not clear whether the virus or its after effects may have played any role in his sudden death.
Channing was most recently running a skincare company The Blaq Group, which he founded and owns brands Blaq, Flight Mode and Generation Skin.

Papafotiou family wants answers for the sudden death of daughter Konstantina

Sotiris Papafotiou, a founding and integral member of the St Albans Greek Community and the wider community, has had his life turn to tragedy following the sudden loss of his daughter Konstantina Hatzopoulos (nee Papafotiou).
The late Ms Hatzopoulos had no known underlying health conditions before some intense lower back pains led her to a hospital emergency for an examination.
While hospitalised, following several tests and treatment for her pain, the young mother suddenly passed away hours before she was due to be released.
A coroner’s investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of death.

Review launched into death of Amrita Lanka after parents claim their concerns were ignored

When Melbourne parents Chandra Sekhar Lanka and Satya Tarapureddi brought their daughter Amrita to Monash Children's Hospital with stomach pains, they had no idea of the tragedy about to unfold over the next 21 hours.
Amrita Varshini Lanka was suffering from stomach pains, vomiting and fever on April 29 when her father took her to their general practitioner, who then referred Amrita to the hospital with suspected appendicitis.
After two hours of waiting to be triaged in the emergency department, the hospital conducted an abdominal scan on the eight-year-old.
Medical staff told her mother it was not appendicitis and that her daughter likely had gastroenteritis.
About 9pm that night, Amrita was given fluids administered via an intravenous drip but said she was experiencing "hard breathing" soon after.
"She told me, 'Mama, hard breathing, hard breathing', then immediately I pressed the staff assistance button but nobody came," she said.
"I went to the reception and checked with them and said 'I've been waiting 20-25 minutes, my daughter is experiencing hard breathing. Can someone come and have a look?'.
"After 15 minutes they came and told me she had an empty stomach — she's not had any food for two days — so it's common, you need not worry."
Ms Tarapureddi said she was told by staff that her daughter could be discharged a few hours after receiving her fluids or in the morning after being reassessed.
At 3am the next morning, a doctor took a blood test in response to their concerns about Amrita's breathing – nearly six hours after first sounding the alarm.
Three hours later, Amrita was moved to a short-stay room where medical staff realised she was in a critical condition.
Soon after, she went into cardiac arrest.
Her father was back at home with her nine-year-old brother Venkata and rushed back to hospital upon hearing the news.
"By the time I saw my daughter, her heart [had] stopped for two minutes, but they revived her," Mr Lanka said.
"She was saying that 'I want to talk to Dad'.
"I was crying. She was not crying, she was just staring at me, I said to her: 'so many doctors here, you'll be out soon, they're working on it'."
Amrita Lanka died at 10:17am on Saturday morning, about 21 hours after she arrived in hospital.

Andrew Symonds, the former Australian all-rounder, and a key member of the One-day international Australian side that won successive World Cups died in a car crash just around midnight in Townsville, Queensland on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Andrew Symonds was 46. “Early information indicates, shortly after 11 pm, the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled. Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating,” said a Police statement.
