According to the UK Government institution, the Office for National Statistics (ONS), between January and March 2022, 62,801 people had sadly died within an average of 48 days after receiving a booster dose of the Covid-19 injection no later than 31st December 2021, and 4,781 of those deaths were attributed to Covid-19. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and the recognised national statistical institute of the UK. The number of adults who suddenly die without explanation could be much higher than recorded in official figures, researchers said today. A study funded by the British Heart Foundation estimated that 3,500 apparently healthy adults die suddenly each year in England. It found that in around four per cent of such deaths no cause can be found - despite a full postmortem examination. However as there is no recognised category for recording such deaths, it is difficult to obtain a clear picture of the exact number of victims.
Lead researcher Dr Tim Bowker, associate medical director at the BHF, said: "It has long been recognised that there are occasions when an apparently previously healthy adult dies suddenly and unexpectedly and any abnormalities found at postmortem are minimal or nonexistent. In such cases it can be very difficult to identify a precise cause of death. This leads us to question whether these deaths are rare or represent the tip of a larger iceberg." He said such deaths should be classed as the adult equivalent of the sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Giving the condition a name, Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), would lead to greater understanding of the scale of the problem.
It is thought that many sudden adult deaths are due to electrical abnormalities, some of which are inherited. However electrical measurements of the heart can only be made when the person is alive. Professor Sir Charles George, medical director of the BHF said: "This study takes us another step closer to unravelling the mystery that surrounds the tragedy of healthy adults dying prematurely from sudden adult death." He said at this stage there was not enough evidence to call for population screening. "What is needed is further research and accurate pathology to assess the scale of the problem and widespread support and follow up of surviving relatives," he added.

Actress, director and writer Josephine Melville has died backstage after performing in a play. Nottingham Playhouse said Ms Melville died on Thursday after appearing in a production of Nine Night. The venue said she was treated by paramedics and a medically qualified audience member but died at the scene.
Nottingham Playhouse paid tribute to the actress and described her as a "wonderful and well-loved person". In a statement the venue said: "We are deeply saddened to announce that last night the actor Josephine Melville, passed away backstage at Nottingham Playhouse following the performance of the play Nine Night, in which she was performing. Josephine's family have been informed, and our thoughts and deep condolences are with them." All remaining performances of Nine Night at the venue have been cancelled.

Radio DJ Tim Gough dies live on air at 55 as tributes pour in

A radio DJ tragically died live on air this morning (Monday, October 24). Tim Gough, who presented a breakfast show on GenX Radio Suffolk, passed away an hour into his broadcast today. The music stopped partway through a song during the 55-year-old's show. It resumed a few minutes later but Tim did not return. Tim leaves behind a son, two siblings, and his mum. GenX Radio Suffolk confirmed Tim had died. A spokesperson said on Twitter: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to inform you, our dear friend and breakfast host Tim Gough passed away this morning whilst presenting his program.”

James Tindale has shared his heartbreak following the sudden death of his father, Alan Tindale, at the age of 74 at the weekend. The Geordie Shore star, 32, took to Instagram to share a photo of him with his father at a wedding, as well as him holding his dad’s hand, which had an IV line and medical wristband on it. He told his followers: ‘At the weekend my world was literally flipped upside down. Sunday I had to say goodbye to my dad unexpectedly and I honestly feel like it’s all just a bad dream and I’m ready to wake up.’
James continued: ‘Me and my dad were so close he was the person I always went to when I needed the best advice and he always made me and everyone in the room laugh with his jokes and sense of humour. I’m absolutely devastated and I feel like I’ve been robbed of time but I’m also so grateful for the years having you not only as my dad but a best friend. I wouldn’t be who I am today without you Dad and I promise to make you even prouder than I know you already were. I love you so much dad xxx.’
The reality star urged his fans to make the most of every moment with their loved ones, adding: ‘I spoke to my dad every single day on the phone and I’d give everything to have him back, even just for one more phone call. You literally never know what’s around the corner so make sure you cherish every single moment with your loved ones x.’

His devastated mum Kate confirmed the heartbreaking news on Sunday (October 23) in a Facebook post, saying: "We are truly, utterly heartbroken to have to tell you that our beloved Drew Peter George Cockton (my gorgeous boy) died peacefully at home yesterday. A 15-year-old boy collapsed and died at the popular Browns restaurant in Liverpool city centre. Emergency services rushed to the scene in the Liverpool ONE complex yesterday afternoon after reports a teenager had collapsed while out with family and friends. Members of the public and staff at the Browns restaurant tended to him until the arrival of emergency services. 'The teenager was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where sadly he died a short time later. The death is not believed to be suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.'

13-year-old died 'sudden cardiac death' after collapsing at football match

A talented footballer who collapsed suddenly during a football match in Nottingham is believed to have died a "sudden cardiac death", an inquest heard. Samuel Victor Ovie Akwasi's parents were present when the 13-year-old passed away at the Queen's Medical Centre on May 7 this year. Miss Mairin Casey, Senior Coroner for Nottinghamshire, opened and adjourned an inquest into the tragic teenager's death at the city's Council House, Old Market Square, on Wednesday, October 19. She read into a recording of the inquest that Samuel was born on September 27, 2008, and sadly died on May 7. "He was aged just 13 years at the time of his death, and he died at the Queen's Medical Centre, she said. A post-mortem examination was conducted, and the provisional cause of death given by a pathologist was "sudden cardiac death with a morphologically normal heart". Dad Tubman Akwasi said the death of his son is a pain that he has to face every day. Samuel was playing for FC Cavaliers U13s against WBCY FC Rossoneri, and had scored the first goal of the match before collapsing on the pitch on May 7 at around noon at the Forest Recreation Ground. Samuel's biggest dream was to become a footballer and play for Nottingham Forest one day, his dad recalled. "When Nottingham Forest won at Wembley I cried. He wanted to play for them one day. It is a tragedy that we are facing at the moment as a family. I am heartbroken."

Evie-Leigh Cormack, 11, was looking forward to starting secondary school when she suddenly got sick. The former St Aidan's Primary School pupil's had experienced headaches, sickness, double vision and loss of balance. Medics dealt the devastating blow and discovered that the she had a terminal malignant brain tumour. Known for her 'sass' Evie-Leigh bravely battled her condition, but sadly died this week in Newcastle's RVI Hospital, Teesside Live reports. Shortly after becoming ill Evie-Leigh was diagnosed with DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma), an aggressive form of childhood brain cancer, for which there is no effective treatment and no chance of survival.

On Monday, the school released a statement from Annabel’s parents which said: “Craig and I are completely and utterly devastated to announce the passing of Annabel on Friday, 14th October. “The magnitude of our shock, grief and complete emptiness is unimaginable. She was the centre of our universe. Our hearts are shattered."

'Much-loved' Walsall intensive care unit nurse 'collapsed and died' at work

A "much-loved" nurse at Walsall Manor Hospital "collapsed and died" on the intensive care unit where he worked. Roberto Villanueva was charge nurse on the intensive care unit. The worker sadly died last month and his funeral took place on Tuesday, October 18. His funeral cortege passed by both the Manor Hospital and near to the ICU so colleagues could pay their respects.

Transact’s co-founder and former chief executive, Ian Taylor, has passed away at the age of 58. In an announcement this morning (October 19), the company said Taylor died peacefully on Monday (October 17) after a short illness. He co-founded Transact in 1999 with Michael Howard, becoming the platform’s boss in 2002 before leading the helm for 19 years. Under his leadership, the company launched its initial public offering in April 2018. Current Transact boss Jonathan Gunby said Taylor was a true innovator and “a giant of the industry”. “He leaves behind a legacy of a transformed world for financial advisers. He will be greatly missed, not least for his razor sharp sense of humour.” Taylor retired from the business in February 2021, after stepping down as CEO the previous year.

lan Fraser, 39, was on his honeymoon with wife Myra and complained of a sore stomach and pain in his side, with doctors later finding a cancerous tumour rather than the hernia he had assumed. Alan Fraser complained of the pain while relaxing in the pool in the USA with wife Myra. Devastated Myra, 33, a carer, said: “It doesn’t seem real, it feels like he could just walk in the door. We came back from our honeymoon in July, and a week later he went to hospital with pain in his stomach. He never left hospital again. It was two months between diagnosis and him passing away. He went to hospital and a scan found a mass in his abdomen. Doctors thought it was lymphoma to start with, that it was treatable with chemotherapy. But then they did a biopsy and found it was far more serious. He was rushed in for two major surgeries. He was in intensive care, fighting for his life. He pulled through that – the doctor didn’t even think he was going to make it off the operating table."

Dad found dead in the road was the 'life and soul of every event'

A young dad who was "loved by everyone" was found dead on a main road late at night. Merseyside Police confirmed that officers received reports of a man's body being found on Gateacre Park Drive at around 11.10 pm on Tuesday, October 18. Emergency services rushed to the scene but officers later confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file has since been passed to the coroner. The man has now been named as Joey Grant from the L8 area of the city. Family friend Natalie Muir has since told the ECHO about how the dad-of-four was the "life and soul of every event" and was an incredible dad to his children. The 33-year-old died suddenly before he was found dead on Tuesday evening.

Shaun Jones, who hailed from Penyffordd in Flintshire, was a huge supporter of the Dragons as well as being a keen follower of Manchester United and the Wales national team. The 46-year-old sadly died last week after he was rushed into hospital. Shaun leaves behind his beloved daughters Emily and Olivia and his wife Jo. Speaking to North Wales Live, Emily said her father was "a massive football fan" and had a huge passion for Wrexham AFC. Tributes paid to mum with 'beautiful soul' who died suddenly in Mansfield town centre

Andrea Allsop suffered a devastating cardiac arrest outside Mansfield Bus Station on Monday (October 17). Her loving daughter Emma Clarkson was by her side in her final moments. “The staff were amazing and got a defibrillator to her and managed the crowds,” Emma said. “Some lovely ladies helped perform CPR on my mum and keep me calm and focused during the event, while we waited for the paramedics to arrive. The paramedics tried for a while, every effort, to bring my mum back but when we got her to King’s Mill, she was very quickly pronounced dead at the young age of 61. She’d only recently celebrated her birthday.” Andrea leaves behind four children and 16 children, all aged between four and 20 years old. “All of us adored her so very much,” Emma said. “We loved the very bones of her. Not only had she dedicated the first part of her life to raising her children, she had also dedicated the last 16 years of her life to raising and caring for her grandson, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder.”

Ross McComish, from Lanark, has been working in the food industry for several years and the talented cook had been working at The Gannet in Glasgow's Finnieston. Last night, the popular restaurant shared the tragic news that Ross had passed away earlier this week. Friends, family and colleagues have been left devastated by the news of the "one in a million" chef's shock death. The Gannet paid tribute to the rising star, who previously studied mathematics at University of Strathclyde. They posted: "Yesterday we received the devastating news that our friend & colleague Ross McComish has passed away. During the time Ross spent with us he endeared himself with his charm, quick wit and was loved by all. A 'fit and healthy' student collapsed and died late at night in a PureGym, while gymgoers couldn't get the attention of a first aider because they were wearing headphones, an inquest was told. Henry Best collapsed at the Bristol gym at 11:30 pm, when paramedics arrived they struggled to get into the building and once inside they couldn't initially find him. However a coroner ruled that the 21-year-old, who died from an undiagnosed heart condition, would probably not have been saved even if paramedics had reached him more quickly. The 'teetotal' and 'active' music student suffered a cardiac arrest at the gym's Harbourside branch in Bristol on January 10 this year. The only employee on site was a first aid-trained cleaner, but gym users couldn't find him as he did not respond to knocks on his door because he was wearing headphones and couldn't hear, Avon Coroner's Court heard. Assistant coroner Peter Harrowing recorded a conclusion that Mr Best died of natural causes. Dr Harrowing said there was no need for a narrative verdict at the end of an inquest that lasted for a day and a half.

Passenger passes away after flight diverted to Shannon Airport

Authorities have confirmed that a man has died after a medical emergency was declared on a flight diverted to Shannon Airport. A spokesperson for the Shannon Airport Group has confirmed that a Turkish Airlines plane en route from Istanbul to Bogota, Colombia, diverted to Shannon Airport on Thursday afternoon, October 20, after the crew declared a medical emergency. The aircraft landed safely at 1 pm and was followed on the runway by the fire crew as it made its way to the terminal, where it was met by airport authorities and paramedics. The Clare County Coroner was notified of the man's death shortly after landing, after which the man's body was taken to University Hospital Limerick by a local undertaker, where a post-mortem is due to take place. The flight continued on its journey to Bogota, Colombia at approximately 3.35pm.
