Curzio Maltese, Italian journalist, writer, and television author, died at 63. He was also Member of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2019 for the list The Other Europe, with Tsipras. Stefano Feltri, editor of 'Domani', said "Although tested by the disease, he was strong from his civil passion and the love of his wife Paola. He committed himself to the last for a more just country". In July 2021, the journalist had returned to writing on social media after a long absence caused by an illness. "Good morning everyone. Here I am, again, after three years. A head surgery reduced me to the ropes and I had to start walking, talking and writing again", had revealed the journalist speaking of "a complex path" to face.

Died tonight, at the age of 74, Hans Ernst Weidinger. He was the owner of the Castle of Sezzate, between San Polo and Strada in Chianti. The death took place this night, February 24, shortly after 3 hours, inside the same Castle of Sezzate. He had himself called an employee to whom he reported feeling unwell. Then he fell to the ground hitting his head. He called 118, but when doctors and volunteers arrived they found the baron already dead. The doctor ascertained how the death occurred due to cardio-circulatory arrest but, for precautionary purposes, the body was still made available to the judicial authority.

Ravenna - The Prosecutor's Office of Ravenna has opened a file for the death of a newborn which occurred around noon last Sunday in the imminence of returning home after giving birth. The baby - according to what was reported by Resto del Carlino - was born after a regular course and with natural birth from a young and in good health mother and was born in apparent good physical condition. He also regularly breastfed. A three-month-old baby, daughter of a Nigerian who lives in Viterbo, died in the arms of her mother while she was at the house of a friend of hers in Capena. The tragedy occurred yesterday afternoon, Friday 24 February. The 31-year-old woman had left the capital of Tuscia where she lives to visit her friend in the town on the outskirts of Rome. From the first investigations it would seem that her child suffered an illness that would have led to her death before the arrival of 118. The doctors tried to revive her, but there was nothing they could do. The little girl, always according to the first investigations, would seem to have suffered from respiratory problems since birth. The carabinieri are investigating the case who, after having intervened on the spot and having heard both the mother and the friend, have already sent an initial report to the prosecutor's office in Tivoli. An autopsy will be performed on the little girl's body, taken to the forensic medicine institute of the Tor Vergata polyclinic, to shed light on the cause of her death. According to what has been reconstructed by the investigators so far, yesterday afternoon the 31-year-old would have set off by train from Viterbo to Capena where she arrived after about an hour. At one point, however, at her friend's house, her child allegedly fell ill and also bled from her nose. An investigation has been opened into the death of a 51-year-old, Sergio Aiello, which took place in his house in Castellamare in the province of Naples. The town of Casamazzagno learned in mourning yesterday of the fatal outcome of the illness that had struck Gildo Zanderig Maccarino the day before. The death of the seventy-year-old, a famous rock climber still active both in single climbs and in groups with friends of the Rondi, has aroused profound despair in the village community, but also throughout the Comelico area, where Gildo was known and esteemed for his active presence in the Rescue alpine and in the initiatives that the Rondi group of rock climbers, the group of which he was one of the founders, periodically organized in the area, rock courses for children and adults, information meetings, conferences such as the one held last autumn in Padola, which gathered many mountaineers from various Italian regions. The apprehension for his delayed return home, after having spent a few hours in the barn owned by him in the wood above Casamazzagno, had induced his wife Maria Grazia to contact him on his cell phone, but, hearing it rang without an answer, he reached the barn finding the bitter confirmation to the suspicions that something serious had happened to her husband. In fact, she had found him lying on the ground unconscious and in the throes of hypothermia. The rescuers she called arrived on the spot quickly and her friends from Alpine Rescue attempted resuscitation while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
