General Hospital Star Sonya Eddy Has Passed Away At 55
December 20, 2022
The devastating news was released on Tuesday that beloved General Hospital star Sonya Eddy passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at the age of 55. She was a commanding presence on the ABC soap and will be greatly missed. Academy Award-winning film star Octavia Spencer released a statement on Instagram saying, “My friend [Sonya Eddy] passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of [General Hospital] fans will miss her 💔🕊️.” “I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible Sonya Eddy,” Frank Valentini, executive producer, said in a statement. “I truly loved her not only as an actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurses’ station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set. On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and fans. She will be very missed.” Eddy made her GH debut in March 2006 as Epiphany Johnson, who succeeded Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames) as head nurse of General Hospital. Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) appropriately nicknamed Epiphany “The Formidable One.” She was indeed that both on-screen and off. Epiphany made sure General Hospital ran smoothly. She was tough on her nurses because she wanted the best for and from them. Epiphany could be counted on to keep a level head during a medical crisis. Encouraged by Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett), Epiphany recently began pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor.

Nancy's work ethic was strong and fierce always with the best interest of her clients and children in the forefront. She was honest and straightforward, and well respected. Nancy was a unique, charismatic warrior until the end. She wanted to live and fight, but her physical body could not. She was allowed the dignity and peace to let go by the loving, caring staff at Cape Cod Hospital (CCH) ICU. Thank you CCH for helping make dark days a little less dark. She was also very well cared for at Liberty Commons/BroadReach Rehab. Nancy made friends at each stop along the way during this battle with the cancer beast.

Debi's first passion was being a mother (and grandmother), but her favorite role outside of that spanned 26 years as a paraeducator for Berkley School's where she touched the lives of countless students and staff and was lovingly referred to as "Mama Bear". Her smile lit up a room, her warmth could melt a glacier. Her life was spent in service to others and to the Lord.

Her husband of 26 years detailed the circumstances of her death, on Facebook:
“I don't know the best way to say this, and I'm sure better words will come at some point, but my wife of 26 years Jean Marty passed away suddenly this evening. I think she went out the way she would want to go...sitting on the sofa watching cooking shows on TV. Please keep her in your prayers.”
Jean Marie Vitry’s husband was a fervent supporter of the “vaccines,” after he was hospitalized with Covid in December, 2020:
“All in all, it was quite the Thanksgiving holiday for the Cannalte's in 2020. I will share more as time goes on. Please, folks, stay safe. I did everything right to stay safe and it wasn't enough. Don't become a statistic. Let's get through the holidays safely, get to the vaccines, and make up for this year with a over-the-top celebration in 2021!”
I noticed that the obits on legacy.com in my area no long state anything about the death. They just focus on relatives etc. This has changed in recent months because I used to send Mark some deaths. Our local newspaper is liberal so they probably are censoring it because they publish on legacy.com
