Vaxxed girl dies in Thanjavur, first Tamil Nadu casualty in 90 days

Chennai - An 18-year-old girl, who was double vaccinated and had no comorbid conditions, died due to Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. The death comes after no fatalities were reported in the state due to Covid-19 for 90 days. While the cumulative death tally was revised to 38,026, fresh cases in Tamil Nadu rose by nearly 43% to 476 on Wednesday, compared to 332 on Tuesday.
The girl was admitted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital with complaints of fever and cough at 7.15 am on Tuesday. Tests showed that she had severe Covid that had infected her lungs. By 2.30 pm doctors declared her dead.

Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh): Four girls went to take bath in Seep river on Saturday in which one girl died, one survived and a rescue operation for two others was on in Sheopur district.
According to the information, because of the heavy rain on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, the water level of the Seep river suddenly increased. Following which the locals and children of Mayapur village went near the bank of the river to take bath.
In the meantime, four girls started drowning in the river, after which the villagers jumped into the river and saved one girl while one died. The dead girl was identified as Lalita.
On the other hand, ASP Premlal Purve said that the incident occurred while taking bath. Body of one of the girls was taken out whereas a search operation for two others was going on, he added.

A 36-year-old woman died in a freak accident in her house at Polichalur near Pallavaram when she attempted to chase and kill a rat on Friday. After checking the CCTV camera footage, police confirmed that the woman first collapsed, likely due to cardiac arrest, and then hit her head against the iron gate.
The deceased, S Lakshmi, lived with her husband and son. The CCTV camera footage shows the woman chasing the rat with her son, suddenly collapsing. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Colombo - A three-wheeler driver who was standing in a queue for petrol at the Wekada petrol station in Panadura has suddenly died this morning, Panadura South Police said. The police said the deceased father of three had been waiting in the queue since last night.
The deceased has been identified as Muthu Thantharige Sugath Fernando, 53, a resident of Wisal Uyana, Hirana, Panadura.

Melaka Civil Defence Force director dies after collapsing in his office

MELAKA: Malacca Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Cuthbert John Martin Quadra died at Melaka Hospital on Tuesday (June 14) after collapsing suddenly in his office. He was 47.
Cuthbert from Keningau, Sabah, was pronounced dead at about 10am at the hospital’s emergency unit, the state APM said in a statement.
Prior to this, he had served the APM in Penang before being appointed as Melaka APM director, effective Jan 1 last year.
A post-mortem will be carried out by the hospital to ascertain the cause of his death.

Kota Kinabalu - Falling sick while driving is believed to have caused a man to crash his car at Jalan Kolam, Luyang, here, today, before he was found dead at the scene, according to a report. Deasoka cited an unnamed source as saying that the man was driving a Toyota Hilux Vigo before the 7.40 am incident. The man then fell sick, causing him to veer to the opposite lane before crashing into a Honda Jazz driven by a woman.
The man was confirmed dead at the scene by paramedics. It couldn't be immediately established whether the man died of his sickness or of the crash impact.

South Korean Olympics Hockey Hero Cho Min-Ho Dies at 35

Cho Min-Ho, South Korea’s first Olympic hockey goalscorer, died Wednesday of lung cancer, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced. He was 35. Cho died in a Seoul hospital on Wednesday, according to the IIHF. He shared with his teammates last fall that he was suffering from lung cancer. “The Korean ice hockey family will remember him not only as a great player but also as a great human and leader on and off the ice,” the IIHF said in a statement.
In 2018, Cho made history at the PyeongChang Olympics in his home country. Playing in South Korea’s first game of the competition against the Czech Republic, he scored the country’s first ever Olympic ice hockey goal 7:34 into the contest.
Most recently, Cho represented South Korea as team captain in the Final Olympic Qualification for the 2022 Beijing Olympics in August 2021.

The New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) has announced the sudden death of its Assistant Sub-Principal Emeritus Viola, Peter Barber. Described as "passionate and unwaveringly positive in every aspect of his life", Barber will be profoundly missed by the orchestra's players.
Alongside the viola, Barber loved choral singing and frequently appeared in local choirs such as Cantoris, Bel Canto, and Nota Bene. A lover of the outdoors, he spent much of his free time hiking. He was also a passionate learner of languages and worked on Mandarin, German, and latterly Te Reo Māori — New Zealand's indigenous language. Barber was a champion of New Zealand music, and made multiple recordings of works by New Zealand composers.
