Former Clackamas County parole officer Karin Morey dies May 31 after receiving Daughters of the American Revolution honors
Karin Morey, an Oregon City resident best known for her contributions to compiling Clackamas County's history, died suddenly May 31 at the age of 69.
Former OC Chamber Executive Director Amber Holveck called Morey "a historical great, an intelligent woman and a spitfire who loved her community."
According to her son, Morey collapsed at home during the evening of May 30 and never woke up, dying at Providence Portland Hospital less than 24 hours after her fall.

Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center founder Greg Hickman dies

Greg Hickman, an animal advocate who founded the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach, has died.
Hickman, 73, died unexpectedly on May 12 when he was on a fly fishing trip in Montana, according to Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center executive director Debbie McGuire.
The cause of death was heart failure, said Jessica Flicker, the fiancé of Hickman’s son, Paul.

Newkam retired from Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company in 2006, where he served as President and CEO. His passion for giving back to the community is evident through the numerous boards he sat on, most recently serving as a director of The High Real Estate Group and a member of the Board of Trustees for Mount St. Mary’s.

Craig Steven Davis, age 61, of Findlay, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Friday, June 3, 2022. He was born in Findlay on July 17, 1960, to Paul Eugene and Madellyn O. (Hosman) Davis.
He was a 1979 graduate of Findlay High School and was a member of the 1978 State Champion Hockey team. He attended Ohio University from 1979-1983 where he obtained his private pilot's license.
He was a skilled craftsman who worked in many industries including Davis Brothers' Distributing, Explosives Technologies, Inc. and Integrated Resources. Craig was a jack of all trades; there wasn't a project he wouldn't tackle. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed being at the lake with his family and friends. He was good natured and kindhearted and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Mary E Martin-Widener 34 of Alexandria, IN, died suddenly at her home on Saturday, May 20, 2022. She was a graduate of South Putnam High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and the manager of the Girls Varsity Basketball team and played Girls Track where is participated in the Shot Put and Discus. Mary also graduated from Ivy Tech in Bloomington with a Associates Degree as a Medical Assistant. She was employed by I Rhythm as EKG Tech.
Mary was a certified firefighter and EMT and was a former member of the Fillmore Community Vol. Fire Dept. She also was a member of the Rebecca Lodge Kapa Ladies, the Kinda Nerdy Girls Group and the Life Builders Community Church.

She worked as an emergency room nurse for many years at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro and spent some time at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth. She also worked for over 10 years for the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office in Concord, as a Deputy Medical Examiner.
If you knew Norma Jean you knew what it was like to have a true unwavering friendship, you knew where to go in times of need, you knew comfort when in pain and you knew a person that put everyone before themselves. You knew you had a place to go to be heard and to have someone show you another side of things.

City Manager Michael Kardoes, 50, dies

Livingston City, MT, Manager Michael Kardoes died unexpectedly Friday morning at Livingston HealthCare, confirmed Park County Coroner Al Jenkins. Kardoes was 50. The coroner did not disclose the cause of death. “We are still looking into it,” said Jenkins.
Kardoes became city manager of Livingston in 2017. He is survived by his wife, Nicole, and six children ages 12 to 21.
Kraig Hayden, lead pastor at Livingston Christian Center, where the Kardoes family are members, said he was devastated by the loss of his friend. “I knew Michael very well,” said Hayden. “He was a leader of leaders. He was a rock and trusted confidante to many, many people.”

Arlington, Va. — Amy Lynn Beamer Barr, 66, died suddenly Saturday, May 7, 2022, at her residence. Amy was born and raised in Girard, Ohio. The only child of Howard and Pauline Coleman Beamer, she spent her youth as an active Girl Scout and school marching band member. Amy was a 1973 graduate of Girard High School.
Amy was a member of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, Girard Assembly No. 176, serving in many offices, including secretary. Amy was a 48-year member of the Sunrise Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 458. In adulthood, Amy was an analyst for the federal government’s immigration department and a dedicated member of Clarendon United Methodist Church for over 40 years, where she was a member of the church choir. Amy was also a devoted volunteer with the Arlington County Police Department for 20 years.

Tyler Mescher, age 23 of Maria Stein, Ohio, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney, Ohio. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and was a 2018 graduate of Marion Local High School and 2022 graduate of Bowling Green State University with a BS in Early Childhood Education and was looking forward to starting his career teaching at Spencerville Schools. Tyler loved spending time with children as he worked in daycare centers during his time in high school and college.
Tyler was a 3-sport high school athlete, he played football, basketball & track. He was a four-time state champion, three in football and one in basketball. He was especially proud of his game winning free throws in the state championship game. Tyler always had a smile on his face and loved to hang out with his many friends from high school and college.

Born in Harrisburg, August 17, 1976, a son of Sheila Bopp Gouse, Williamstown and the late Steven Koons Sr. Anthony attended both Halifax and Williams Valley School Districts. He was a Manager at McDonalds, Halifax.
Anthony could often be found in the outdoors, a place he enjoyed fishing, hunting and hiking. He also looked forward to his yearly week long kayak trip. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Anna Marguerite Styers, also known as Asher Jeffrey Styers, died unexpectedly in Nashville, Tennessee, Saturday, March 12, 2022. She was born May 21,2000, to James E. Styers of Springfield, Virginia, and Stephanie Marie Styers of Los Angeles, California. She was a graduate of Trinity School at Meadowview in Falls Church, Virginia.
At age 18, she legally changed her name to Asher Jeffrey Styers. He attended Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, and was currently enrolled at VSCC [Volunteer State Community College] in Nashville. He enjoyed reading, drawing and hiking. He loved everything about nature and saw beauty where others might see a row of weeds. Earlier at a memorial service in Nashville, a young man with obvious social interaction problems summed up Asher with one sentence: "Asher was always kind to me."

Born Dec. 21, 1979, in San Francisco to Patricia (Horn) Stark and Dennis Horn, Justin Gregory Horn, 42, died unexpectedly in his sleep on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at his home in West Allis, Wis. Justin lived in California, Massachusetts, Idaho, England, Alaska, New Zealand, Mexico and Wisconsin.
Justin earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in philosophy, both at the University of Idaho. He also did graduate work at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Justin was married to Myriam Albor on Nov. 19, 2016, in Bernal, Mexico. At the time of his death, he was employed by Stark Pavement.
Justin had many accomplishments in his short life. He represented the state of Idaho twice in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., in 1991 and 1992. He placed fourth in the world in the Odyssey of the Mind competition in 1992. He was the president of Moscow High School Student Body in the 1996-97 and 1997-98 school years. Justin was the solo vocalist winner at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival in 1998. He was a performer and soloist in jazz choirs I and II for more than a dozen years. He became the director of jazz choir III from 2004-06. He was a member of UI’s The Hamptones and a composer and performer for Dancers Drummers Dreamers. He was chosen as the Alaska Tour Guide of the Season, 2007-08. He performed with Bobby McFerrin at the 2008 Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
He was the playwright, director, composer and a performer in “FOOD COURT!: The Musical,” as well as a playwright for “Paris of the Pacific.” He was awarded the University of Idaho Alumni Award for Excellence in 2010, and was president of University of Idaho Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) in 2010. He composed, wrote lyrics for, was the lead vocalist for and was a co-producer of “Hornology.” He was the cocreator of the reddit.com/r/infinitypool subreddit, avid member of GME community and author of influential DD (Due Diligence) “THE INFINITY POOL: naming a theoretical posit for endgame and post-squeeze considerations.”
Those fortunate enough to have the experience of having known Justin will mourn him deeply. They will remember a free-spirited, creative, intelligent, witty, kind and encouraging person who was legendary in his own time … which was frequently late. Justin’s enthusiasm and energy went with him everywhere and was something you felt as soon as he walked into the room.

Age 63 of Coal City, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Morris Hospital. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and went to work for the Laborers Local #75, where he made his career working in the local nuclear plants and refinery's until retiring in 2017. On August 27, 1977, Bill married Tina McQueary in Wilmington and together they made a home and raised their family in Coal City.
Bill was quite a collector of guns, coins and baseball cards. He worked hard his entire life, and most importantly will be remembered as a true family man. Bill never missed an opportunity to attend a family event, and nothing gave him greater joy than spending time with his grandkids.

Steven W. Fennern, age 71, of New Ulm, MN, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 30, 2022, at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.
Steve proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1974 until his honorable discharge in 1976. He later served in the National Guard from 1976 to 1979. After his time in the service, Steve attained a degree as a machinist from Hutchinson Community College. He utilized this degree while working at Pillsbury in the Twin Cities until a work accident caused him to move back to New Ulm, where he began his employment at Caterpillar in New Ulm.
Later in his life, Steve attained a degree in information technology from South Central Technical College in 2002. While in school, Steve worked for the city of St. Peter, but after attaining his degree went to work for Nicollet County, retiring in 2012.
Besides his work, there were a variety of hobbies Steve enjoyed in life. In his younger years, he was an avid motorcyclist, and loved any chance he could to go for a ride. He also enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, hunting, fishing and also playing in dart leagues. Steve loved spending time outside tending to his gardens, or simply working in his woodshop where countless pieces were made that will be appreciated for generations to come. He was a member of the New Ulm American Legion. Although his passing seems so sudden and unexpected, many wonderful memories will forever stay in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Blessed be those memories.

Frank was a Sharon High School, Penn State University and Sharon School of Business graduate. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office, Sharon Regional Health System, and Passavant Memorial Homes Inc. as a security guard, medical records and support services worker for 27 years, retiring in 2014.
Frank is a former associate Fraternal Order of Police, American Rifle Association, men and Fathers Church Related Prayer group, Sharon High School Alumni Association. Frank enjoyed fishing, hunting, shopping at Cabela's Sporting Goods store and was a Godzilla enthusiast.

William Phillip Thatcher, 64, died unexpectedly but peacefully in his home in Kokomo, Indiana. Academically, Phil graduated from Kokomo High School in 1976 where he earned 10 varsity letters in basketball, football and baseball and then graduated from Indiana State University in 1980 where he earned a degree and lettered 4 years in baseball. He spent his professional career in commercial insurance at McGriff Insurance (formerly Miles & Finch).
Phil was active in the Kokomo community his entire life as a YMCA and Carver Center board member, coach of basketball at Carver, PAL, and AAU, and baseball at UCT, Russiaville Cubs and as a pitching coach at Kokomo High School. He was a member of the Kokomo Country Club for 37 years and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Phil ("Poppy" to his grandchildren) was a man in command of his temper and possessed of an open, social and cheerful good humor to everyone, at all times. He was loud and bombastic, but jovial to all. He played cards and golf but throughout his entire adult life what he did was love and care for his family and give to them not only all his treasure but his time, in every possible way. Phil was there for his family. Phil did not go gentle into that good night but rather he lived his life without regret, and he filled the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds worth of distance run.

Michael enjoyed camping in the White Mountains, American muscle and antique cars, watching movies, especially Star Wars and The Fast and The Furious series. Bristol, CT - Gregory Charles Tomcheski, 59, of Wolcott, formerly of Bristol, died unexpectedly with his family by his side.
Greg was an avid NY Giants fan and a coach for flag football and tackle Bristol Midget Football for over 15 years. He worked as an electrical foreman, dedicated to the trade for 40 years. Greg also known as "Big Guy" always put his family first, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going for rides with his sidekick dog, Stella.
He was an extremely generous and forgiving man. He was a father figure to many youth players, which still stayed in contact with him over the years.

Vesper Bailey Zelei devoted Jehovah Witness, loving mother, loyal sister, and faithful friend died unexpectedly on February 17, 2022 at the age of 75.
She graduated from Quincy Jr. Sr. High School in Quincy, CA in 1964 and shortly there after moved to Salinas, CA where she met and married Ronald Zelei in 1965. They have two children Pamela and Zane. The family moved via a work transfer to Red Bluff, CA in 1974.
Vesper spent her life raising her two kids, driving school bus, and volunteering for various committees and groups in and around town. You could find her outside enjoying life to its fullest.

Unexpectedly leaving this earthly planet on December 31, 2021, Bob Cook’s life was, and is, the definition of service to others. Born in Southern California on November 22, 1948, Bob moved to Zephyr Cove, Nev. in 1971 after serving honorably in the U.S. Army in the late 60s/early 70s during the Vietnam War with the 82nd “Hell Cats” as a Door-Gunner for his brother Jeff, among other duties.
Bob earned a degree in Fire Science and worked for the Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department where he became a Firefighter/Bomb Squad Technician. Bob later worked for UPS until his retirement in 2002.
Bob was known and loved by many people in Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley--he was a true steward of Douglas County. Bob served with the Zephyr Cove Ski Club starting in 1981 and was on over 11 boards and councils including but not limited to: Young at Heart, Douglas County TRIAD, Ducks Unlimited-Lake Tahoe Branch, Lake Tahoe Federal Advisory Committee (appointed by U.S. Dept. of Agriculture), Douglas County Senior Services Advisory Council, Nevada Tahoe Conservation District, and the Douglas County Community and Senior Center design team.
No cause of death reported.
