In memory of those who “died suddenly” in Canada, January 2-January 9, 2023
NBA star Tristan Thompson’s mother; children’s book illustrator Wallace Edwards; journalist Treena Emily Mielke; B.C. doctor Ani Ariana; LGBT activist Liam Coward; and 382 others across Canada
CANADA
A note from our lead Canada researcher:
As high as it is—higher even than the toll in Italy, although Canada has a much smaller population—the weekly toll that we have been recording in these compilations is much lower than it ought to be, due to the terseness of obituaries from some large populations.
Specifically, we have had trouble finding data on the “sudden deaths” of Asians, East Indians and Jews throughout the country (three large minorities), and of the Filipinos in Alberta. The death notices from those communities are less detailed than those from the general population.
There is a similar void of information in the Territories—especially about the large indigenous community, whom Trudeau’s police have sought to “vaccinate” by force. It is extremely difficult to find death notices of any kind for that community, whose rate of “sudden deaths” may well be hidden.
What all this means, in short, is that the true rate of “sudden deaths” in Canada is probably much higher than the quite high rate that we’ve recorded here.
NBA Star Tristan Thompson’s Mom Suddenly Dies
January 7, 2023
Awful news out of Toronto. NBA star Tristan Thompson’s mom died suddenly while she was at home. She suffered a heart attack. Andrea was rushed to a nearby hospital. Medical personnel were unable to resuscitate her. As of right now, Tristan Thompson has not released a statement on his mom’s death. This is an impossibly difficult time for anyone to go through. Losing a parent is one of the hardest things you can go through. TMZ reported that Thompson left Los Angeles immediately. He will be spending time with family in Toronto.

An illustrator of children’s books “died suddenly”:
Wallace Strachan Edwards, 65
December 27, 2022
Yarker, Ontario - Beloved children’s book illustrator whose vivid imagination transformed the world of animals and strange creatures for a generation of children. Winner of the Governor-General’s award for his first book, Alphabeasts, he went on to write and illustrate 16 more books, winning many national and international awards. His most recent book, Do you Wonder? was published this year by Scholastic. After receiving a diagnosis of terminal cancer in August, he completed work on his final book, Pigs Can’t Fly, currently in press. In 2014, Wally was awarded a Canada Council-supported New Media Artist Residency at York University. He went on to create and exhibit work in augmented and virtual reality internationally and was a pioneering force in the development of visual language and techniques for future forms. He was also just beginning to create large-scale paintings in acrylic, signaling the next phase in his artistic journey, and it’s a profound loss that only a handful of these works will ever exist. He was a lover of the natural world, a keeper of obscure knowledge, a fan of wordplay, a surprisingly accomplished magician, a sparkling conversationalist, a mean guitar player, a compassionate and wise spirit and the funniest guy at the dinner table. Contributions to Pancreatic Cancer Canada.

‘She was doing fine’: Kelowna toddler, 2, dies suddenly just days after Christmas
January 4, 2023
Kelowna, B.C. - Addilyn Emelia Radomske Booth was an energetic little girl who loved her family. On Christmas Day, Addilyn (Addy) was happily opening presents alongside her older sister Alexia. Just days later, the Kelowna family was shattered when Addy was found not breathing and later died the morning of Dec. 29. “Addy on the 27th wasn’t feeling too great, but it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, she just wanted to snuggle up,” said Addy’s aunt Emmy Radomske. “The 28th she was doing fine again, like they weren’t concerned about anything. She never was sick enough that it was a major concern.” On Dec. 28, Addy and Alexia went for a sleepover at their grandmother’s house. The little girl was found not breathing around 7:30 a.m. and 9-1-1 was called. Attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

Mom Allison Holthoff dies after waiting seven hours in Nova Scotia ER
January 11, 2023
A Canadian mom of three died in agony at a Nova Scotia hospital after waiting for medical help in the emergency room for nearly seven hours on New Year’s Eve — and now her widowed husband is demanding answers. Gunther Holthoff told reporters earlier this week that his 37-year-old wife, Allison, woke up on Dec. 31 complaining of what she thought was an upset stomach. He said Allison had fallen off a horse back in September and had been suffering from pain ever since, according to reporting by CTV News. Throughout the day, her condition deteriorated, and after taking a bath, the woman ended up writhing in pain on the floor. Holthoff drove Allison to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst, arriving there shortly after 11 a.m. and carrying her into the building on his back because she was unable to walk. The husband then got a wheelchair and wheeled his wife into the emergency room. He said she was struggling to sit up because of the excruciating pain. Hospital staff took samples of Allison’s blood and urine, which her husband said proved difficult because she was in so much pain by then. Allison was instructed to sit in the waiting room, but her condition worsened to the point that she had to lie on the floor in a fetal position. As they waited for a doctor to see Allison, security guards brought some blankets to cover her and a cup of water. It was then that Holthoff said his wife started telling him she thought she was dying. “She said, ‘I think I’m dying. Don’t let me die here,’” he said Monday.
Around 6 p.m. — nearly seven hours after the Holthoffs first arrived at the hospital — Allison began screaming in pain and begging for help. Another nurse came in to check her vitals and found that her pulse was elevated and her blood pressure low. “Everything happened quickly after that, everyone started picking up the pace,” the husband said. “That was the first time I actually felt like someone was paying attention to us.” At last, Allison was seen by a doctor for the first time that afternoon, given IV fluids and painkillers. She then had an EKG done and was taken to an X-ray room. Holthoff briefly stepped away, and when he returned, he said, he found his wife screaming, “I can’t breathe. I’m in pain. Don’t move me.” Allison’s eyes rolled back in their sockets again and a “code blue” was called, alerting medics that a patient was experiencing a cardiac arrest. According to Holthoff, Allison was resuscitated three times, but a decision was made not to operate on her because the odds of her surviving a surgery were determined to be minimal given her condition. Holthoff said a doctor revealed to him that a CT scan showed bleeding inside his wife’s body, but its source could not be pinpointed. “They had a 1 percent chance of keeping her alive with surgery, but at that point, there was not much chance of her ever having a normal or dignified life,” Holthoff said. After the husband and his three children said their final goodbyes to Allison, she was officially pronounced dead around 11:30 p.m. — some 12 hours after she first set foot inside the emergency room. More than a week later, Holthoff said he still does not know the cause of his wife’s death because her autopsy report has not been released, according to the news outlet CBC.ca.

Dr. Heather Belle Dryburgh, 65
December 1, 2022
Dr. Heather Dryburgh passed away suddenly after a stroke on December 30th, 2022 at the age of 65. Heather’s resilience was an inspiration to many women in her life, after returning to school with four young children. Her determination led her to accomplishing Undergraduate and Masters degrees from Western University, and a PhD at McMaster University. These accomplishments were completed entirely through scholarships and research funding in the field of Sociology. Heather was an athlete who found great joy in the outdoors. She had many adventures with her close friends (WWW) around Ottawa, cycling, skiing and hiking. She also loved playing tennis and this passion led to serving on the board of the OTLBC, which she enjoyed tremendously in her retirement. Heather always dreamed of a log cabin, and with a handful of library books, a strong will and her family, she built a cozy log cabin on the cliffs of Georgian Bay in Cape Chin that she called Northwinds.

Harvey sadly ended up retiring September of 2019, to look after his wife who got diagnosed with dementia. His tenacity was admirable during this time. Harvey spent many years lovingly taking care of Mary until it became too much to bear and after a lot of heartache and difficulties, he finally managed to get her into St. Michaels where she was able to receive the constant care she needed. This was very indicative of the man Harvey was and is often described as someone who always went above and beyond to help his loved ones until he no longer could. At the age of 57, Harvey was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Ronald Steven Cherry, 58
January 3, 2023

Ron was born in Ontario and, throughout his early life, he quickly grew to be an animal lover, a jokester, an inspiration to his siblings, and a true friend to anyone he met, especially his childhood friend. He later attended George Brown College to study the Culinary Arts. This fueled the start of a voracious passion, which led him to move to Sooke, British Columbia in 1986 to work as the Chef of the renowned Sooke Harbour House. This kitchen also forged the meet-cute between Ron and the love of his life and it soon formed the heart of their love. In 1992, after the birth of two beautiful children, they ventured to Vava’u, Tonga, to set roots in Elisapeti’s native land. The following years brought three more loving children and the opening of the Mermaid Restaurant of which they co-ran. The Mermaid became one of the most well-known culinary experiences on the Island for tourists, locals, and the Royal family – including the King of Tonga. After 17 years in the South Pacific, the Cherry family returned to Canada and eventually gravitated back to Sooke.

Jean Victoria Sutherland, 74
December 30, 2022
Jean V. Sutherland, born June 1, 1948, passed away December 21, 2022; from complications of breast cancer, which she had been fighting for a brave second time. The resiliency that had carried Jean through her first battle and throughout her life; unfortunately, was lost to her this last time. Jean spent her entire life living in Ecum Secum, on Nova Scotia's eastern shore. It is a rugged, beautiful place, that definitely shaped Jean's character. Hard working, honest and free of frivolities; she was strong-willed and original, who was very much a maritime woman. She enjoyed her view of the ocean, when it wasn't covered in ever-present fog, and had to stoke the wood stove all year long to keep the dampness at bay. On welcomed sunny days, she was found outside on her deck, watching the traffic whisk by on Highway #7. She knew most cars from memory and loved it when people stopped in to chat. Needless to say, nothing was lost on her when it came to her community.

74% read. I couldn’t handle anymore than that.
Thank you for these weekly reports of deaths in Canada. It makes for very difficult reading but I believe it's better to know and see the truth of what is happening. It's shocking to see how many young people are dying suddenly and unexpectedly. I've also noticed how many people are dying after having previously surviving cancer only to get it again and are gone within weeks. I'm also horrified by so many apparently healthy middle aged people dying
of heart and stroke issues.
I think these publications should be mandatory reading for all the health related industries and individuals who still keep repeating the lie of " safe and effective".
