Raju Srivastava: Popular Indian comedian dies aged 58

Popular Indian comedian Raju Srivastava has died aged 58, his family has confirmed. Srivastava was being treated at a hospital in the capital, Delhi, following a heart attack on 10 August. The comedian had been taken to hospital and put on life support after experiencing chest pain and collapsing while working out at the gym. Last week, his family said that Srivastava was recovering slowly but remained on a ventilator.
Srivastava joined the entertainment industry in the 1980s as an actor in Hindi films. He shot to fame in 2005 after participating in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, a reality show for stand-up comedy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes at the news of Srivastava's death.

Malayalam filmmaker Raman Ashok Kumar, popularly known as Ashokan, passed away on Sunday in Kochi. Ashokan had recently returned to Kerala from Singapore and was under medical care at a hospital when he breathed his last. He was 60. FEFKA Directors’ Union confirmed the news about Ashokan’s demise on its Facebook page, while sharing its condolences. Ashokan began his career in movies by assisting late filmmaker J. Sasikumar. After seven years of learning the craft of storytelling under Sasikumar’s supervision, Ashokan ventured out on his own in the late 1980s. He made his directorial debut in 1989 with Varnam. And he later helmed a handful of movies in the early 90s, which gained him commercial and critical success. He frequently collaborated with actor Suresh Gopi. During his brief stint as a film director, Ashokan helmed Saandhram, Mookilla Rajyathu and Aacharyan. He also directed a telefilm named Kanappurangal for which he bagged the prestigious Kerala State Film Awards.

Hanamkonda - Congress senior leader and Telangana Jana Vedika convenor Takkallapally Ramu (59) died of a reported massive heart attack in his sleep on Saturday night at his residence on the Hunter Road here. He is survived by wife Vinitha and son Srikiran. He was the son of former minister Takkallapally Purushothama Rao. According to his family members, Ramu was found unconscious by maid on the floor beside his bed on Sunday morning. Doctors confirmed that he had died of a massive heart attack.
Ramu, an active social activist, conducted several talks and seminars on contemporary social, economic and political issues through the Telangana Jana Vedika and was quite popular among the political as well as intellectual circles not only in erstwhile Warangal district but also in the State.

Muneer Ahmed, who was depressed after his son’s arrest, was admitted to a private hospital this evening due to chest pain. But he died without treatment. Shimoga police will take Maz to Mangaluru tonight. Maz’s father was 53 years old and was depressed after his son’s arrest.

Class 2 student dies at MCD school in Delhi's Rohini, cause of death yet to be ascertained

New Delhi - Sohit, a Class 2 student, died after falling unconscious at Municipal Corporation of Delhi's primary co-educational school. An official said the boy suddenly fell unconscious around 11.15 am. He was taken to a local hospital, but died there. The boy's parents told investigators that their son had no medical conditions nor any history of illness. "The boy appeared healthy. This seems to be completely unexpected case. Doctors said the cause of death could be known only after the autopsy of the body."

On Sunday, a 32-year-old runner collapsed and died suddenly from a heart attack a few hundred meters from the end of the popular 13-mile Satara Hill half marathon, the Times of India reported. Raj Kantilal Patel, a father of a six-month-old girl, collapsed near Parange Chowk, about 250 meters from the Finish line. “After he collapsed, the marathon organizers immediately took Patel to a hospital, where he was declared dead. We have registered a case of accidental death, and an investigation into the incident is on,” authorities said.

Hyderabad - A 26-year-old resident of Jahanuma drowned at a swimming pool in Chandrayangutta on Sunday. According to a complaint registered with the police, Syed Samiuddin played cricket with his friends at Khilwat in the morning, after which they went to a private swimming pool located at Mumtazbagh in Chandrayangutta. While swimming in the pool, Samiuddin drowned, and his friends and the staff brought him out. He was shifted to Owaisi Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for postmortem.

Marathon participant suddenly died after finishing in Almaty

47-year-old participant of the "Almaty Marathon," Rustem Sadikov, died after crossing the finish line. "It happened at 09.35. Rustem ran a distance of 10 km. The head doctor of the competition, who was on duty at the finish line, Orazbek Sakhov, said that the participant fell immediately, barely having time to cross the finish line on Republic Square and walking a few meters. "We immediately began to provide assistance to him. Volunteers of the Red Crescent of Kazakhstan began to provide primary care, then cardiopulmonary resuscitation was carried out jointly with employees. At first, the heart was able to start, sinus rhythm appeared, and two minutes later the heart stopped again. Resuscitation continued for 30 minutes, of which the last 10 minutes were in the ambulance. And at 10:15 we declared death. An official reason can only be given after a forensic medical examination," Orazbek Sakhov added. According to relatives of the deceased, this is not the first time he has taken part in the running event. Rustem ran in April at the Almaty Half Marathon, in the "Almaty Marathon" in 2021, also at a distance of 10 km.

Fishing boat makes port 12 days after captain's death at sea

Taipei - A Taiwanese fishing boat, which had been adrift for a while after its captain died onboard in mid-September, returned to port safely on Monday, with help from the Coast Guard and a private vessel. The captain of the "Chin Long Cheng No. 18" died suddenly of an illness on Sept. 15 when the fishing boat was in waters north of Guam, which left it without anyone competent in the wheelhouse, and it was drifting on the high seas until the next day, when a private ship took it in tow. Six days later, a Taiwan Coast Guard vessel reached the fishing boat, responding to its call for help on Sept. 15 after the death of its captain, surnamed Chen (陳).
When the fishing boat carrying the crew and Chen's body docked on Monday, a Taoist monk and Chen's family there were waiting. They burned paper money at the port, while chanting "come home," as he was being taken off the vessel. An Indonesian crew member on the Chin Long Cheng gave a thumbs up as he disembarked and told reporters in simple Taiwanese that captain Chen had been very kind to the fishermen on the boat.

Yuki Onishi, the founder and head chef of the world’s first Michelin-starred ramen eatery Tsuta, has died. It’s not clear when exactly the 43-year-old head chef passed away. Tsuta’s staff paid tribute to Mr Onishi on Friday (23 September) on the company’s website and social media. “He was a meticulous and talented chef who enhanced the popularity of ramen across borders beyond Japan,” the message read. “While mourning with his relatives and friends, Tsuta staff worldwide will strive to continue his legacy.” Mr Onishi’s older brother Yoshimi also shared the news on Twitter on Friday, revealing that his younger brother passed away “suddenly”.

Ipoh - A 40-year-old man who collapsed while hiking at Kledang Hill near here was pronounced dead by paramedics. A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said Shahrom Ahmad Salaludin was found unconscious while hiking with a friend. He said the department received a distress call at 6.09 pm Monday (Sept 26) from the public. “The man fell when he was about 400m from the foot of the hill. He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the site,” added the spokesman.

Seremban - A lorry driver died while 12 were injured in a four-vehicle crash in Malaysia on Thursday (Sept 22) evening. Rembau OCPD Deputy Supt Hazri Mohamad said initial investigation found the lorry was moving in the middle lane before it switched to the right lane and crashed into a Toyota Camry and Perodua Alza. "The lorry later hit the highway divider and entered the opposite lane to collide with a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) van," he said. The lorry driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a policeman sustained serious injuries, while eleven others had light injuries.

Rudy Ramawy, managing partner of Southeast Asian early-stage Investor Venturra, died yesterday at the age of 50. Henry Riady, a Scion of the family that owns the Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group, told local media that Ramawy's death was so sudden – the Investor just had lunch with colleagues that same day. Lippo Group is Venturra's largest limited partner. Tributes from the startup and VC community started coming in as soon as the news broke. Raditya Pramana, Ramawy's colleague at Venturra, said that he lost not just a partner and a mentor but also one of his "dearest friends." Before helming Indonesia-based Venturra in 2015, Ramawy served as the country director of Google Indonesia for around three years. He also held roles in global firms such as Procter & Gamble and Sony Music Entertainment, as well as in Indonesian telco provider Axis and local TV station RCTI. He was also the Deputy CEO of Multipolar, a subsidiary of Lippo Group. Ramawy was one of the three managing partners that founded Venturra, alongside Lippo Group director John Riady and former Rocket Internet managing partner Stefan Jung.

A pilot was killed when his crop-dusting plane suddenly lost altitude and crashed in a paddock on the Darling Downs, west of Brisbane. The agricultural aircraft lost altitude during a crop-dusting flight near Chinchilla Wondai Road and crash-landed near the tiny town of Canaga about 12.20 pm on Monday. The pilot, believed to be a man in his 30s, was the sole occupant and died at the scene. The Forensic Crash Unit and Australian Transport Safety Bureau will prepare a report for the Coroner.

Police are investigating the mysterious death of a man whose body was found by bushwalkers near a Queensland beach on Thursday. The 49-year-old man, believed to be a Sunshine Coast local, appeared to have "no obvious signs of injury" with his cause of death unknown. Police were called to bushland near the Twin Waters boat ramp, Nojoor Road at around 5.40 pm on Thursday, Queensland Police said in a statement. As part of their investigation, Sunshine Coast police are appealing for information as they try and establish the man’s movements leading up to his death.

Tributes flooded social media on Tuesday, September 27 after news that blind New Zealand cricketer, Parveen Shankar, died suddenly in his sleep at the age of 41. Parveen Shankar, a blind cricketer who played for New Zealand Blindcaps, died suddenly at the beginning of the week, according to reports on Tuesday, September 27. New Zealand news outlet NZ Herald reported that Shankar went to bed on September 25 at the home he shared with his parents in Ranui but sadly did not wake up. Speaking to the news outlet, his sister-in-law Archana Shankar said everyone is in shock as aside from his blindness, Parveen was not ill and was still regularly playing cricket. “He wasn’t ill or anything and had even gone to play cricket that day, so his passing has come really as a shock,” Archana said. “Despite his disability, Parveen was always determined to live his life to the fullest. He is a superstar who has touched many lives.”

Myocarditis caused by Covid vaccine led to Dunedin man's death - coroner

A coroner has found a 26-year-old Dunedin man died of myocarditis, due to vaccination with the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine. Rory Nairn died at his home in November last year after receiving his first dose of the vaccine. He had experienced myocarditis-like symptoms for nearly a fortnight following his jab, which he received on November 5. Myocarditis is a rare side effect of the vaccine involving the heart.
Coroner Sue Johnson opened an inquiry into his death, not to determine civil, criminal or disciplinary liability but to establish when and where Rory died and the cause and circumstances around his death. The inquest lasted three days in the High Court at Dunedin and heard from witnesses including Nairn's fiancé Ashleigh Wilson, the person who vaccinated him, Medsafe and Te Whatu Ora Southern. The inquiry was a fact-finding exercise to consider whether the coroner needs to make specified recommendations which may reduce the chances of further deaths in similar circumstances from happening again.
Johnson today released her findings into the cause of Nairn's death in which she states "I am satisfied from the written evidence I have received, and the oral evidence heard at inquest that I have sufficient evidence to now establish the following: A. Where Rory died; B. When Rory died; C. The cause of Rory’s death". After hearing evidence from pathologist Dr Noelyn Hung, Johnson said she is satisfied that the Covid-19 vaccine caused the myocarditis from which Nairn died.
