Ultimately, Maaseik has won the Belgian title sixteen times and the Belgian cup fourteen times to date. Raedschelders has ensured that (inter)national top volleyball is played in the Steengoed Arena to this day. In 2020 Mathi Raedschelders retired as chairman of Maaseik after 35 years. Last year a big farewell party was held for him.

The Tages-Anzeiger has a curious piece on the sustained excess mortality trend that has gripped Switzerland since the start of the year. The persistent slight elevation, which has never been seen before, has yielded 3,000 excess deaths through the end of August.
The preferred Science explanation is that a substantial portion of these deaths are “heat-related” and that these are the unfortunate consequences of climate change. In truth, the summer heat has been vastly overplayed by a press eager to transition back to climate-change narratives, and Swiss heat deaths even in record-setting years, like 2003, don’t break the 1,000 mark.
The Swiss healthcare system is also under considerable pressure, and here too nobody knows the reason. People who visit a doctor’s office are sent home due to capacity reasons or have to wait for hours. This week, sick people were faced with closed doors at the Permanence-Practice on the Marktplatz in Oerlikon.
This is by no means an isolated case in Switzerland. Axel Rowedder, specialist for internal medicine and head of the Medix clinics in Basel and Pratteln, has also had to briefly close his walk-in practices a few times this summer.
Why are so many people suddenly ill? Where are all the patients coming from? “If we only knew," says [Esther] Wiesendanger [another clinic administrator]. “I have the feeling that more people are sick and also more often.” But she won’t speculate on the reasons. Since March, the pressure has increased noticeably.
At the Biel hospital centre, the emergency ward has also been pushed to its limits for weeks. “We have no idea where all these patients are suddenly coming from,” says hospital director Kristian Schneider … Nothing stands out in the reasons for admission. “It’s possible that these are still after-effects of the pandemic,” says Schneider.

Illness and fall: German tourist dies

Hrafn Jökulsson is confirmed dead at the age of 56

Hrafn Jökulsson was an Icelandic writer, journalist, politician and competitive chess player. He was best known for his writings, both as a writer and as a journalist. Hrafn was the son of the journalist Jóhanna Kristjónsdóttir and the writer Jökull Jakobsson. Among his siblings were the writers Elísabet Jökulsdóttir and Illugi Jökulsson. He started working in Tíminn at the age of fifteen and later held the position of editor of Alþýðublaðið and Mannlíf. He was a deputy for Alþingi in 1995 for the Social Democratic Party. In 1998, he was one of the founders and later president of Skákfélagið Hrókurinn, a competitive chess club. In 2022, Hrafn was diagnosed with stage four cancer. He died of the disease on September 17, 2022, at the age of 56.

Reykjavík - It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Sunvar Mortensen, age 69 of Port Hawkesbury, that occurred in Reykjavík, Iceland on July 25, 2022. Sunvar was a kindhearted, joyful man who was always caring for and helping others. He was happiest when around his children and family and always had a smile that radiated through the room when accompanied by them. Sunvar was a hardworking man, who was extremely smart and dedicated to his work. He was a great leader who worked several management positions; specializing in accounting, bookkeeping, and lately, worked as an operations manager for Arctic Fisheries Alliance. He was very passionate about the fishing industry and trawling boats. Sunvar was a valued worker, friend, and father by many and will be greatly missed by all.

Maltese couple whose daughter died unexpectedly donate her organs to ten persons

A couple whose 46-year-old daughter died have donated her organs to 10 persons. Joe and Carmen Pisani lost their daughter Marie Therese unexpectedly on Sunday. The mother posted on Facebook that Marie Therese suffered a haemorrhage. She added it resulted from a CT scan carried out at Mater Dei Hospital that the daughter had brain damage and she was pronounced clinically dead. The mother added that from Sunday, their daughter's condition remained unchanged and they took the decision to donate Marie Therese's healthy organs to help other persons. Carmen added that her daughter was kind-hearted, a gentle person and beautiful both on the inside and on the outside.

A runner dies while participating in the Night League Puerto Torrevieja

A runner died on the afternoon of September 17 at Paseo Vista Alegre while participating in the V Legua Nocturna Puerto Torrevieja, a solidarity race of 5,572 meters. The deceased belonged to Club Cuatro Santos Cartagena and traveled to the city of Torrevieja to participate in the race. The Puerto Torrevieja Athletics Club gave its condolences for the death of his partner, Juan Miguel, as well as his own Carthaginian club remembered him with some emotional words.

Died by drowning in Fuerteventura, Diego Suzal had lived in Limbiate and Varedo

Diego Suzal, who grew up in Limbiate and then resides in Varedo, died Sunday afternoon in the Canary Islands, in Fuerteventura, where he had moved a few years ago. On Sunday afternoon, the tragedy on the beach where he had allowed himself a swim in this part of late summer, taking advantage of the still mild temperatures. Shortly after 16.30, the 44-year-old accused a sickness in the water. It was brought ashore by some swimmers present on site who gave the alarm by calling in the rescue vehicles. The man was taken to hospital by helicopter but unfortunately every effort to save him proved in vain.

He breathed his last under an aircraft in "El. Venizelos"

A worker at the Athens Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" in Spata breathed his last on Wednesday afternoon. The unfortunate man died from a failure while working and in particular while he was under an aircraft. The Board of Directors of the Labor Center of Lavrio-Eastern Attica expressed "its deep and sincere condolences to the relatives of the colleague who breathed his last on Wednesday afternoon while working at Athens Airport" and called on "all the competent authorities to do the necessary actions to clarify the causes and reasons responsible for the death of our colleague at his workplace".
Certainly seems to be an uptick in people running off the road while driving.
