Gambia’s vice president Badara Alieu Joof dies in India

Gambia’s Vice-President Badara Alieu Joof has died of illness in India, President Adama Barrow said on Tuesday. Barrow said on Twitter that Joof had died “after a short illness” without providing further detail. Joof, 65, was appointed vice president of the West African country in 2022. He had previously served as education minister. The vice president had left the Gambia about three weeks ago to seek medical treatment. Mr Barrow picked him as vice president after being re-elected in December 2021 for a second term. In June, Mr Joof expressed dissatisfaction about the conduct of public affairs, saying Gambians had great expectations and "business as usual" would not lead to decisive change, our reporter adds.

Gabon’s former ambassador to US Michael Moussa Adamo dies after suffering heart attack during cabinet meeting

Tributes flooded social media on Friday, January 20 after Gabon’s foreign minister Michael Moussa Adamo died suddenly after suffering a reported heart attack during a cabinet meeting. The 62-year-old reportedly “down at the start of the cabinet meeting and began to feel unwell,” the source revealed. He was rushed to a military hospital around midday. However, “despite efforts by specialists”, the minister died while unconscious. Moussa Adamo served as Gabon’s ambassador to the United States for a decade and also served as special advisor to Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba.

Man dies on a fishing vessel near shore at Eilat

A 50-year-old resident of Eilat died yesterday evening on board a fishing vessel, on which he made a living on the water of the Red Sea. The incident happened not far from the shore of the resort city. According to information reported by Maariv, an acquaintance was able to reach the shore after the man lost consciousness. The MADA paramedics applied resuscitation measures and then transported the patient to hospital, where the doctors were forced to declare the fact of his death. According to preliminary reports of the incident, there was no evidence of a crime being committed which could have caused the fisherman's death.

Paphos: 23-year-old woman dies suddenly in her sleep

A 23-year-old woman died suddenly in her sleep in Konia, Paphos, according to police. The woman, a Nepalese national, was employed as a housekeeper in the house in which she passed away. Her employers reported finding her unconscious in her room on Wednesday morning. The woman’s body was transferred to Paphos General Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. According to reports, the woman had no history of previous serious conditions. A coroner’s autopsy will determine the exact cause of death. After examinations, authorities have ruled out foul play.

Soviet and Russian singer-songwriter Vera Votintseva has died at the age of 56. Daughter of the famous Tobolsk poetess Svetlana Solovyova. She graduated from a music school and a music college, then studied at the St. Petersburg State Academy of Culture. Played 6-string guitar and piano. She has been writing poetry since childhood. Since 1985 she composed and sang her own songs, old and modern classics, as well as friends and buddies. Periodically acted as a backing vocalist. In 1985-2001 she performed in a duet with her twin sister Nina. Then she performed alone more often. She has participated in many festivals, including as a guest of honor and as a member of the jury. Nikolai Sysoev was born on the 14 May 1983 in the city of Frolovo in Volgograd region, he graduated in 2005 from the Saratov State Academy of Law and immediately began his service in the supervisory organs of Purovsky region as assistant prosecutor. Subsequently he was given the post of deputy prosecutor in October 2020.
