Rwandan singer Yvan Buravan dies of cancer aged 27

The singer had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was undergoing treatment in India. He had previously been treated in Rwanda and Kenya before his transfer to India. Buravan's music talent got noticed at the age of 14 when he finished second in a national music competition.
His 2016 hit song Malaika ushered him to stardom in Rwanda. In 2018 he won the Prix Découvertes - one of Africa's biggest music contests organised by RFI and Unesco.
"He’s gone too soon leaving behind lots of things he was yet to finish, but he leaves us with amazing arts he has done. His legacy will live on,” his manager Bruce Intore Twagira has told the BBC.
Many Rwandans on social media are also mourning his death. "I can't believe we have to go on about our day in a world where such a bright soul is gone," one person tweeted. "He was a man of honour! He earned my respect from the first day we met!" Rwandan music star Andy Bumuntu said.
KENYA
Police clarify on how IEBC official died, dismiss claims of murder

Laikipia County Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Onesmus Towett has refuted claims of the possible murder of Kirinyaga IEBC official Geoffrey Gitobu [57]. Speaking in an interview Towett insisted that it was a sudden death and not murder as some reports claimed. "The case was reported yesterday at around 2.38 pm and the report was of the sudden death of someone who had collapsed in town (Nanyuki). He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. So no person has killed another one. No case of murder has been reported here," the DCI official said.
The IEBC returning officer for Gichugu constituency in Kirinyaga collapsed and died on Monday in Nanyuki while he had gone to see his family. According to reports, Gitobu collapsed and died outside the IEBC offices in Nanyuki, Laikipia County and the cause of his death is yet to be established.

Geoffrey Gitobu: Autopsy Shows Gichugu Returning Officer Had Blood Clot, Died of Natural Cause

An autopsy conducted on the body of Gichugu Constituency Returning Officer Geoffrey Gitobu has ruled out foul play around his sudden death.
The post-mortem, conducted at the Nanyuki Cottage Hospital morgue on Wednesday, August 24, revealed that Gitobu died of natural death. According to the report by Simon Amok of the Independent Medico-Legal Unit, Ayum Macharia (Family and IEBC representative), and Harrison Kiambati, a government pathologist who conducted the post-mortem, Gitobu died of pulmonary embolism. The pathologist explained that pulmonary embolism happens when a blood clot gets stuck in an artery, which blocks blood flow to other parts of the lung.
The debriefing also revealed that Gitobu had blood clots within the pulmonary glands and lacked enough oxygen, which caused his sudden death. The autopsy further indicated that the returning officers had no physical injuries. However, his family says the Gichugu returning officer had no history of hypotension or diabetes.

Actor and kwaito star Brian “Bruno” Majola has died. His former cast mate, actor Zola Hashatsi, was inconsolable when confirming the news with TshisaLIVE on Tuesday, saying a statement had yet to be released. He took to Instagram to share a tribute to the late star.
“Angikho Grand. How dare you Bruno Jamshack #RIPBruno I am heart broken and in tears. Angeke bafwethu,” he wrote. His cause of death was not revealed at the time of publishing this article. Brian was popular for his breakout role as Bongani on soapie Rhythm City. He later appeared on Ekasi Stories and Inkaba.
Majola was 26.
Death of beloved former headmaster shocks village

Ladysmith - On Tuesday, the school community of the Towerkop Primary School ground to a halt when the news of the sudden passing of the beloved Pieter Herandien (67), former headmaster, became available. He retired in 2017. Teachers stood in groups and cried. Parents flooded the school with inquiries of 'Is it true?' Jeanette Herandien, wife of Pieter and also a retired school principal, confirmed that he was actually perfectly healthy and that they were completely devastated.
Irene Lawrence, Pieter's sister says: "He was so precise about his health. And now this. What makes it even more painful is that Pieter died on the same day as our mother died years ago." Pieter, who was principal for almost 30 years and has more than 40 years of teaching experience, won a National Teaching Award in the Eden-Central-Karoo Education District for Leadership in Primary School Principals. He was also part of the Department's Training Unit which helped train School Control Bodies and regional leader of the then KPO. Danie van Wyk, former CEO of the South African Education Development Trust, offered his condolences.

Sugar industry pays tribute to Judith Wilson

Tributes poured in from everywhere for Ms. Judith Wilson (45) who recently died due to sudden health complications. For the past eight years, she was the South African Sugar Association's (SASV) commercial director. According to Mr. Trix Trikam, executive director of the SASV, during her career at the association, Wilson led, among other things, the "all-important" master plan for the sugar cane value chain to 2030, successfully managed the sugar terminal in the Durban harbor and the repair of the Shukela training center after the Covid-19 pandemic. "Judith was a well-loved and highly regarded member of the SASV's executive team. She had the utmost admiration, trust and respect of all sugar industry members and other stakeholders, including officials from various government departments."

Well-known salesman dies

Hannes Grobler (57), a long-time resident of Modimolle and well-known car salesman's sudden death on Monday 25 July was a great shock to his family and friends. According to Grobler's eldest daughter, Estrilda van Effrink, who also lives in Modimolle, her father was ill last winter. "The doctor advised my father not to go to work during the week of July 18-22 because he was struggling with shortness of breath and was so exhausted that he could hardly walk. By Saturday 23 July, however, his condition had deteriorated and his friend, Johan Prinsloo, took him to a private hospital in Pretoria at around 15:00," she said. Several blood tests were done to determine what was wrong.
However, Grobler's medical aid was exhausted and he was transferred to the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria later that evening. The doctors at Steve Biko were concerned about the possibility of a blood clot and administered a blood thinner along with oxygen treatment. Grobler would have gone for special heart tests on Monday 25 July to investigate further. Van Effrink told Die Pos that she still spoke to her father on Sunday 24 July. He apparently felt better and was joking. According to medical staff, he felt dizzy on Sunday night and fell when he tried to stand up. He died early in the morning on Monday 25 July due to underlying heart problems which led to a heart attack.

Foreigner dies while jogging in Baku

A foreign citizen, 58, died while playing sports in Baku.
