Dordogne: a young man dies during a mountain bike outing with friends

The fire brigade was alerted at the beginning of the afternoon, a little before 14 o'clock, Saturday, January 21, to rescue a young man aged 35 years old taken ill in the town of Boulazac (Dordogne). In the middle of a mountain bike outing with friends, the thirty-year-old had a heart attack. It was one of the other mountain bikers who alerted the emergency services. He lived around the corner and we often philosophized together about the future of History and discussed new articles and possibilities. Enne made a major contribution to the development of the website, which was very dear to him. His articles have been and are read by thousands of people. With his death, History loses part of its own history. Besides all this, Enne was above all a very good friend, whom we will miss from now on. We remember him with great gratitude.

On Wednesday, January 11, we received the intensely sad message that our colleague Arlène Bus passed away. We can barely contain it. She was able to give part of her lessons until the Christmas holidays, although she had not felt fit for a long time. During the Christmas holidays it turned out that she had an aggressive, untreatable disease, which caused her to deteriorate very quickly. It's still hard to imagine she's gone. In Arlène we have lost a warm, committed colleague, mentor and teacher of Dutch. We wish her husband and three daughters a lot of strength to be able to accept this profound loss. Arlène was a musician who often performed together with Henk Hubbers from Ooij and was therefore a frequent guest in the Ooijpolder. During the Christmas concert of the Ooijse Toekomst, together with the Waalklinkers in Ooij, she performed.

Mum dies after being given 2 days to live with devastating cancer she mistook for back pain

A mum has died just days after being diagnosed with cancer she mistook for back pain. Pernilla Hewetson, 47, died on January 5, after months of suffering with severe aches and back pain. Pernilla's sister-in-law Julia, from North London, says she was always fit and healthy, cycling to work every day and holding down a hectic job as a pharmaceutical executive. In 2020, Pernilla, from Sweden, was diagnosed with breast cancer. But she was determined not to let it stop her living her life and still continued to work. After chemo and radiotherapy, her and her family were given the incredible news that she was cancer free and there was a 90 per cent chance it would not come back. Then, following two healthy years in remission, things changed around last August. "Suddenly Pernilla said she was experiencing pain in her back and her chest. So my brother and I told her to get it checked out at the doctors, just in case.” At the hospital, a scan revealed that Pernilla had tumours on her back and some in her liver. Unfortunately, she was told by doctors she could not have chemo due to her cold and low immunity. As a result, Pernilla was put on a new drug trial which involved taking oral tablets to hopefully suppress the cancer. She was told to return to Stockholm, their home city, as soon as possible because her latest results were in and sadly she was told the drug hadn’t worked. As for the cancer, it had spread from her spine to her abdomen and the cluster of tumours on her liver had multiplied. They flew back on December 28 and by the following day she was wired up in a hospital, being given the devastating news that she had just two days left to live.

Kivelä passed away at his home on Thursday, broken by a severe illness. “Mika worked as a physiotherapist for Vaasa Sport's players for a long time, in charge of the injury treatment and rehabilitation of the players. The death of a well-liked and respected co-worker seems hard to believe and accept in the work community. However, the memories live on in our hearts and thoughts,” Vaasa Sport wrote on its website. Radosław Skupień is dead. A 36-year-old firefighter from Łobza (West Pomeranian Voivodeship) died suddenly. Before joining the PAF, he was a soldier and served on a mission in Afghanistan. "There is a void left that will be difficult to fill," colleagues wrote in a moving post. The news about the firefighter's death was provided by the District Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Łoba.

Bratislava - A 46-year-old man lost his life while working. The accident happened in the hall of the logistics - transport company in Devínská Nová Ves. While working on a forklift, there was no indication that anything was wrong with the man. When he got out of the cart and walked around it to see where he was going to fold the goods, he suddenly felt nauseous. According to the record, he lost coordination and seemed confused. Shortly afterwards, he fell to the ground. "We found out from the CCTV footage that there was a sudden cessation of blood circulation. There was still some hypoxic convulsive activity in him recorded in that video," said coroner Martin Balko. After a few minutes, colleagues found him. While they started resuscitation, they called paramedics. Unfortunately, it was not possible to save him. As we learned, he was not supposed to have any health problems at work, nor did he complain about anything. Whether the man's death was due to sudden heart failure or another cause is not yet known.
