CANADA
A note from our lead Canada researcher:
As high as it is—higher even than the toll in Italy, although Canada has a much smaller population—the weekly toll that we have been recording in these compilations is much lower than it ought to be, due to the terseness of obituaries from some of Canada’s highly multicultural populations. The death notices from those communities are less detailed than those from the general population.
There is a similar void of information in our northern regions. It is extremely difficult to find death notices of any kind for those communities, whose rate of “sudden deaths” may well be hidden. What all this means, in short, is that the true rate of “sudden deaths” in Canada is probably much higher–perhaps five times higher–than the quite high rate that we’ve recorded here.
A note on suicides:
Suicides by young people are up 22% during the pandemic in Canada and 17 other countries (and it’s why we’re including suicides in our compilations):

May 31, 2023
Hani Morrison Trypuc was born January 5, 2021 in Jaipur, India. He spent most of his short life at an orphanage where they did their best to meet his needs. Through the adoption process, we were so lucky to be matched to Hani in November 2021 and after a long year, we were able to call him our son and bring him home to Calgary. It took Hani one nap and one blue and orange truck to open his heart to us and smile that infectious smile that we will desperately miss. Hani was a very curious little man always into pretty much everything which earned him many nicknames like Hani Houdini and Hani Banani. Tragically and unexpectedly Hani died at a hospital in Fernie, BC May 19, 2023, shy of being 2 1/2 years old. He smiled and braved through being an orphan and then flying across the world for a new life with a new family that adored and loved him. Hani was pure happiness and joy. He will forever be missed but never forgotten by his Dad, Mom, and his big brother.

Dr. Frances Janet Crawley, 76
June 26, 2023
(General Surgeon - Retired) Frances died of cancer at age 76, on Tuesday, June 20, 2023. She began working as a General Surgeon in a small community hospital - Hants Community Hospital - where she found such truly dedicated and hard working medical professionals and staff and the loveliest of patients, she never wanted to leave. The diagnosis of her first cancer however caused her retirement from medical practice in 2013. Her second cancer diagnosed in 2021 would prove to be fatal.

And there is ZERO talk about this in Canada. I mean literally.
It's hauntingly disturbing.
Is anyone tracking the excess death numbers in each province? Curious to know if it's getting worse. I would guess so based off this week's post.
