Former Super Bowl champion-turned-high school principal Riddick Parker has died. He was 49 years old. Parker, who played for not only the Seattle Seahawks, but also the New England Patriots during their 2001 Super Bowl win, died while he was riding his bicycle, but the exact circumstances have not been released, WTVR reported. Parker, who was originally from Emporia, Virginia and went to school at the University of North Carolina, was the current principal at George Wythe High School in Richmond, Virginia, according to WTVR.

Luke Knox, college football linebacker and brother of Dawson Knox, dead at 22

Florida International University linebacker Luke Knox, the younger brother of Buffalo Bills tight end Dawson Knox, passed away suddenly at the age of 22, FIU Athletics announced Thursday on Twitter. A cause of death for Knox was not revealed. FIU said police did not suspect foul play, according to USA Today.

LaTisha Chong, Celebrity Hairstylist, Dies at 32

LaTisha Chong, the hairstylist who counted Serena Williams and Telfar Clemens as collaborators, has died at age 32. The reported cause of death was metastatic breast cancer. Chong’s clientele included Serena Williams, whom she worked with on the star athlete’s September issue of American Vogue revealing Williams’ decision to begin stepping back from tennis. Chong also worked with multihyphenate Tracee Ellis Ross on a range of projects, from the Met Gala to Pattern Beauty campaigns.
“I met LaTisha in September 2021 when we worked together for my Harper’s Bazaar cover, styled by editor in chief Samira Nasr and shot by Renell Medrano, and she created some epic curls for that editorial. I then got to play with her again for the 2021 Met Gala, where she cut and styled a slick, angular bob to go with my Balenciaga couture. I then brought her in to create rich, textured styles for ‘Expand Your Pattern,’ an international campaign for my hair care line, Pattern Beauty,” Ellis Ross recounted to WWD via email.

Azerbaijan Singer and actress Firangiz Rahimbeyova died at the age of 62. Directed by Namig Shiralibeyov APA, he said she died of a heart attack. Firangiz Rahimbeyova was born on August 6, 1960 in the village of Şişpapagli in the Agdam district.
In the late eighties she became popular as a pop singer. In collaboration with composers such as Kazimov, Firangiz Rahimbeyova wrote "If you forget me", "This is love", "I believe in love", "Our mountains", "Homeland", "My love will come", "Laugh", "Look since", "Boy". She also starred in the films The Legend of Gümüşgöl (1984), Kidnapping the Groom (1985), Ring of Luck (1991) and Ring of Luck 2 (2017).
She has been with her daughter Raisa since 1993. United States of America. She moved to Los Angeles. She married American architect Raymond Anthony for the second time. It is said that she performed in Russian restaurants in Los Angeles, where she was invited as a singer at the weddings of Azerbaijan, as well as engaged in small businesses.

Dan Miller, Fort Myers jazz trumpet star and educator, dies at 53

Dan Miller, Fort Myers, FL, virtuoso known for his clarion trumpet and passion for jazz, died unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 19. He was 53. Miller played trumpet with stars like Harry Connick Jr., Wynton Marsalis and Maynard Ferguson. But he loved educating youngsters; Miller helped organize the Naples Youth Jazz Orchestra and taught improvisation classes in the Jazz Studio of the University of Centeral Florida's School of Performing Arts.
"Dan was an incredible educator. The kids loved him," said pianist Jerry Stawski, who played with Miller often over nearly 14 years in venues from The Barrel Room in Fort Myers to the "All That Jazz!" series at Artis—Naples. The jazz afternoon at Unity of Bonita Springs for local stars known as "The Magnificent Seven" was an annual event for both of them before the pandemic. "He was a walking encyclopedia of jazz. You could play any record from any era and he could tell you the tune, what musicians were playing on it, even what arrangement they were using." The cause of death and funeral arrangements have not been announced.

Boston, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police announced the death of a fellow active duty officer on Saturday. Sgt. Kenneth J. Carroll Jr. passed away after a “brave battle w/ illness,” Mass State Police said in a tweet. Carroll was a graduate of the 75th recruit training troop. “Our deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in eternal peace,” read in a tweet.

Clayton County Police Detective passes away at 57. He had served in law enforcement for more than 3 decades

Crime Scene Detective Carl Cook passed away Wednesday, according to the police department's Facebook page. He was 57 years old. The police department said, "Detective Cook was one of the most committed Officers this department has ever had."
Cook retired from law enforcement in August 2019 after serving the Clayton County, GA, Police Department and the Clayton County Sheriff's Office for more than 32 years. After his retirement, Clayton County Police Department said Cook became a member of the police force's Reserve Unit. Detective Cook often visited the police headquarters, checking up on his co-workers, the police department said.

Dell, AR – Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Corporal Terry Treadway died unexpectedly while off-duty on Aug. 2. The 65-year-old corporal passed away at his home, according to his obituary. “The Mississippi County Sheriff’s Office lost one of our own this morning due to natural causes,” the sheriff’s office said. Cpl. Treadway spent the past 18 years serving the MCSO, and was also a member of the Blytheville Emergency Squad and served as a Dell Fire Department volunteer firefighter, according to his obituary.

Emergency responders paused Friday afternoon to honor one of their own who died unexpectedly. On Monday, Erin Gabathuler, Jefferson City, MO, Police Department communications supervisor, died. She was 39. Along with being a member of the Holts Summit Fire Protection District, Gabathuler was a CPR instructor with the American Heart Association. Gabathuler started her career with JCPD on May 5, 2008, and was a communications supervisor at the time of her death.

Mike Hudson, a “pillar” of ocean rescue in New Jersey and around the world, is being mourned after his sudden passing. Hudson was 53 years old. He was known for his larger-than-life personality that included being the aquatic stunt safety coordinator for MTV’s “Jackass” team and for Discovery Channel’s Shark Week.
Hudson was a technical rescue contributor for Fire Engineering and had a recurring column in JEMS. He also taught hands-on water rescue seminars at FDIC International and JEMS Con. “Chief Hudson was the pillar of Ocean Rescue, a true waterman,” a post on the Sea Bright Fire Rescue Facebook page reads. “His commitment and efforts lead Sea Bright to be on the forefront of modern day surf lifesaving. We stand together with our brothers and sisters of Sea Bright Ocean Rescue during this difficult time.”

N.Y. FF dies after suffering cardiac arrest between training and fundraiser

Island Park, N.Y. — Island Park Fire Capt. Michael Fischer, 38, died Sunday right before a fundraiser for a child with cancer. Fischer had been training new members of the department that morning, Newsday reported. A fire chief told News 12 that firefighters had just put up an arch for the fundraiser and were eating lunch when Fischer went to the bathroom, came out and fell down. He was in cardiac arrest.

The death of a Georgia soldier, wife, and mother of three is being investigated after she was found dead in Wiesbaden, Germany. According to the U.S. Army Europe and Africa, Pcf. Denisha Montgomery, 27, was found unresponsive in her room and pronounced dead on August 9. Montgomery, assigned to the 139th Military Police Company, was deployed to Germany from Ft. Stewart, Georgia. She was scheduled to come back with her unit at the end of September. A statement from the U.S. Army Europe and Africa said the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division is investigating her death.
10-year-old cheerleader dies of aneurysm in Stanislaus County

Waterford, CA - A child in Stanislaus County died suddenly in Stanislaus County earlier this week. The Modesto Bee says a 10-year-old cheerleader for the Waterford Sabercats youth football team collapsed during practice Monday at Waterford High School and sustained a fatal injury. The child's mother posted on gofundme that her daughter had a brain aneurysm. The girl was a fifth-grader at Lucille Whitehead Intermediate School.

A beloved high school student in the Philadelphia suburbs died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 18. He was 16. Quentin Watson was an upcoming junior at Norristown Area High School, where he was known for playing basketball, the school district said. "On Thursday we lost a member of our NAHS Athletics community, Quentin Watson (Class of 2024)," the school athletics department wrote on Facebook. "From the entire Athletics program, we would also like to send our condolences to Quentin's family, friends, teammates, coaches and teachers."
He is also remembered for his laugh and dancing abilities, according to a GoFundMe launched for his funeral expenses. "Quentin died from unknown medical causes," reads the fundraiser, launched by Crystal Yates and Doshmere Falana. "He fought so hard but it was time for him to rest." Nearly $14,000 had been raised on the fundraiser as of Monday, Aug. 22.

Richard Ellison, a student in a joint Tuck School of Business and Geisel School of Medicine master’s program, died suddenly in Hanover, NH, on Thursday, College President Phil Hanlon announced this morning.
Ellison was a member of the Class of 2023 pursuing a Master of Health Care Delivery Science, a 12-month program that includes brief residential periods in Hanover. According to a note from Tuck dean Matthew Slaughter and Geisel dean Duane Compton, Ellison was a U.S. Army-trained surgeon who retired from the Army in 2015 and subsequently worked as a traveling physician.

Anthropology professor Deborah Nichols ‘inspired generations,’ remembered for kindness

Anthropology professor [at Dartmouth College] Deborah Nichols was known for her willingness to help others. As a trailblazing scholar and top archaeologist, her kindness shone throughout all of her pursuits. For Sarah Klassen ’10, Nichols dropped everything to help Klassen decide on possible career paths — despite not knowing Klassen at the time. “It is funny to think about, now, these pivotal moments in a person’s life,” Klassen said. “For me, it turns out my career was [because of Nichols] putting everything down to speak to a random student for an hour who might be interested in archaeology,” Klassen said.
Nichols died on July 27 at age 70 from cancer, according to an announcement from the Society for American Archaeology. Nichols — often referred to as Deb — served as president of the Society for American Archaeology starting in 2021.

Arocho, who retired just a few weeks ago as associate director of research operations, died unexpectedly on Aug. 15, her family said. "Thea was the heart and soul of ORSP. I worked with Thea for only a short time and very quickly saw the impact she had on so many people at OU,” Susan Robb, assistant vice president for research and sponsored programs, said. “She helped anyone and everyone who needed it, with a smile. She will be remembered as a wonderful colleague and friend."

A 1996 Waterloo High School graduate who enjoyed baseball success at the college, amateur and independent professional levels before becoming a trainer and coach died Sunday in St. Louis. Jeremiah Bergheger, 44, of Warson Woods, Mo., formerly Columbia, was most recently serving as an assistant coach for the Christian Brothers College High School baseball team in St. Louis. Head-On Tractor-Trailer Crash Kills 25-Year-Old Lebanon County Woman With 'Beautiful Soul'

A Lebanon woman was killed in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer on Wednesday, August 17, 2022., according to a release by the Pennsylvania state police. Vanessa R. Henner, 25, of Lebanon, PA, died at the scene of the crash at 4:34 p.m., police detail in the release. Henner was driving her 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier north when, for an unknown reason, she drove over the median on Route 72 in Union Township hitting the 199 Volvo tractor-trailer head-on in the 2900 block, police say.
George A. Fence, 59, of Montgomery, Pennsylvania, who was driving the tractor-trailer continued on the road, striking an embankment, finally stopping facing east, according to the release. He suffered unknown injuries and was taken to Hershey Medical Center by Life Lion EMS, the police explain in the release. Pennsylvania state police in Jonestown continue to investigate this deadly crash.
Henner "loved being in the outdoors. She enjoyed camping and she loved fishing on the Swattie. She especially enjoyed going to Locust Lake with her family," as stated in her obituary.

Theodore Arthur Hagg of Wurtsboro, NY, passed into history spectacularly on July 13, 2022. He was riding in his chariot (his sixth consecutive blue Jeep Wrangler) on a mission to his castle (the towering historic red brick farmhouse in the foothills of the Catskills he referred to as the Fortress of Solitude) when the huge heart that bestowed love on so many in his life suddenly gave out on him. The ensuing crash was so dramatic that the sole bystander believed there had been an earthquake -- a misunderstanding that seems befitting of the force of nature that was Ted Hagg. Family he leaves behind include his loving wife Leigh Ann Waldvogel and his proud daughter Anne Katherine (Annie) Hagg of New York City.

Carlsbad, CA — A larger-than-life personality and longtime La Costa community volunteer unexpectedly died earlier this month in San Francisco, leaving friends and family devastated. Brian Reynolds, 50, of Carlsbad, was competing in the 29th annual Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim on Aug. 7 in San Francisco when he suffered an unknown medical incident and passed away, according to Reynolds’ sister Tracy Strauss. Strauss told The Coast News that no official cause of death had been communicated to the family. Close friends Mike Batista and Ron Fontaine said Reynolds was in great shape leading up to the event and had trained several months for the 1 1/2-mile-long swim.

Fiorino, of Willow Grove, began his tenure with the Abington School District as a teacher and athletic director, before becoming assistant principal in 1994, according to his obit. Born in Allentown, Christy attended Northampton High School, where she played softball, marched and played flute in band, and danced with Steps in Time of Allentown before graduating in 2011, her obituary says. Christy then went on to attend Northampton Community College and play softball for Northampton AA and Allen Township, according to her memorial. Christy had worked at Zoups in Allentown and Sheetz in Whitehall and was a current Paychex payroll specialist. She also taught Sunday school at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bath and worked with Girl Scouts around the Upper Mt. Bethel area, her obituary says.

Maggiacomo was a facet in the commercial real estate franchisor and consultancy firm since 2001, when he joined as a regional director, executive vice president and chief operating officer, according to the company. He was later appointed CEO in 2010.

The man who was pronounced dead in Towsley Canyon on Monday has been identified by officials at the Los Angeles County, CA, Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office. The hiker was identified, according to Sarah Ardalani, a spokeswoman for the Coroner’s Office, as a 59-year-old Stevenson Ranch resident.
The cause of death was not immediately available as of the publication of this story. His place of death was listed as a “hiking trail.” The call regarding the hiker was received at approximately 10 a.m. near the intersection of Towsley Canyon Road and The Old Road.
“At approximately 10 a.m. a call for service was received indicating a male adult was found unconscious and not breathing at the top of a small loop on a trail on the 24300 block of The Old Road in Newhall,” said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, a spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, at the time of the incident. Soon after the original call went out, SCV Sheriff’s deputies and L.A. County Fire Department personnel arrived on the scene. “The male has been pronounced deceased,” said Arriaga.

Yohhei Sato, owner of celebrated Portland, OR, knife sharpening company Sato Sharpening, died of unknown causes Saturday, August 13. He was 37. Sato’s knife sharpening career and boisterously warm personality made him something of a Portland legend, both within the restaurant community and outside it. He sharpened the chefs’ knives of Portland’s most celebrated restaurants and carts, like the now-closed Ataula, salumeria Olympia Provisions, and countless Portland food carts around the city. But Sato also held several knife sharpening events for the public, at places like Coffee Beer and Migration Brewing. Following his death, Portlanders began sharing an an outpouring of memories and messages of grief for Sato on social media. “He was loved by everyone,” says college friend Kristopher Mahoney-Watson. “Portland’s not going to be the same without him.”

Lehigh Valley, PA, native and East Stroudsburg University graduate Ryan M. Dugan died unexpectedly on Monday, August 15. He was 35. Ryan was a member of the wrestling team at Notre Dame High School, where he graduated before attending East Stroudsburg University, his obituary says. Ryan continued to participate in sports in college by playing on the club rugby team while earning bachelor’s degrees in both business and economics, according to his memorial. Afterward, Ryan worked as an HVAC technician with his family at Dugan's Heat Pump & Air Conditioning, Inc. Ryan was known for his upbeat and outgoing personality which was always ready to have an adventure. He loved surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, and even skydiving. “Ryan lived life to the fullest,” his obituary says. “Ryan was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed.”

Daqueece Washington died on Thursday, August 11, his obituary says. A native of Trenton, Daqueece attended Trenton Central High School, according to his social media page. More recently, Daqueece moved to Dallas, Texas, to “start a new life,” according to a GoFundMe launched by Thomasina Ortiz, who described him as a cousin.

He was his mother’s baby boy and constant companion to his father. Tyler was devoted to his brother, he adored his sister, and Tyler and his cousins were inseparable for most of their lives. He loved family gatherings which included his extended family of friends. He loved the water, beach, working out, and watching 1980s movies, especially, “Goonies.” He loved partying with his boys, and he could bring laughter into everything. He was a Smyrna High School graduate, employed as a foreman by Battaglia Construction. He worked very hard and tried to learn more every day. Tyler was stubborn and fearless. He will always be loved and missed.

Holly Gerard, 49, of Cooperstown, NY, died suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, in Oneonta, NY, from a pulmonary embolism. Shortly after high school, Holly followed her parents' footsteps, heading to Cooperstown, where she worked at Bassett Hospital in various capacities such as HPA Billing and scheduling for the Cardiology Department. Almost everyone in Cooperstown knew Holly, as she was a very familiar face associated with a bevy of part-time jobs such as at Great American/Price Chopper, Cooperstown Veterinary, Pioneer Patio, and her parents' former music store on Pioneer Street, "Holley Music", which was named after her.
Holly was also a graduate of SUNY Delhi's nursing program, earning her Associate's Degree in Applied Science and her LPN license in 2008. In Cooperstown, she worked at Bassett Hospital, Woodside Hall, and Otsego Manor. In Oneonta, she worked at Chestnut Park and was about to begin work at Robynwood the day after her unexpected death. An avid book reader, she amassed a huge "library", finding it hard to part with a "friend". But, even more than books, she loved her cats, Henry and Gracie, "her children" as she called them.

A young man who was who was very close with his family, Matt lived true to this sentiment through his profound appreciation for nature, sunrises, sunsets, travel, live sports, concerts and comedy. He loved to visit out west to spend time with his closest friends, hiking and exploring all that California, Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Oregon had to offer. He found the most happiness at any live event, like when he and his dad would travel each year to see his favorite teams (Notre Dame, Raiders, Bills, Yankees), when he was able to see his favorite band, Pearl Jam, or when he was able to run his successful business, Mr. Squeeze Lemonade.
