The Kinks 'deeply saddened' as band member dies with Ray Davies leading tributes

The Kinks have paid tribute to former band member John Gosling, after it was revealed the keyboard player has died at the age of 75. In a statement posted to the band's official social media pages, they told fans: "We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of John Gosling. We are sending our condolences to John's wife and family." Gosling played keyboard with the band between 1970 and 1978 playing on ten albums and contributing to the demo for Lola which went on to become one of the band's biggest hits.

Sir Michael Boyd, former artistic director of the RSC, dies aged 68

Sir Michael Boyd, who was artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) between 2003 and 2012, has died aged 68. Boyd’s tenure at the RSC helped rejuvenate the organisation after the rocky stewardship of his predecessor Adrian Noble. It also saw him direct a cycle of eight of Shakespeare’s historical plays in the space of just two years, a process he admitted left him exhausted but satisfied. A statement from Boyd’s family said: “Theatre director Michael Boyd has died from cancer. His career took him from training in Moscow to artistic directorships at the Tron theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.”

Jess Search, Doc Society Co-Founder, Dies at 54

Jess Search, producer and co-founder of U.K.’s Doc Society, has died. She was 54. Search died in London on July 31 following a brain tumor diagnosis in early June. Search was a near two-decade member and co-founder of the U.K. based Doc Society, a non-profit organization started in 2005 dedicated to producing and funding documentaries from around the world. A month after the diagnosis of her brain tumor, Search announced on Doc Society’s website that she’d be stepping down from her director position. In her note, Search wrote “Today I am sharing that I’m currently under the care of a neurosurgeon because like 300,000 others every year around the world, I’ve been diagnosed with a brain tumor. I’m stepping back from Doc Society — after 18 years of nonstop creative collaboration, dedicated craft, joyous partying and fierce camaraderie.”

Stuart Penney, who has died aged 52, was on the staff of The Daily Telegraph for 10 years, first as a commissioning editor and later as property editor. His own arrival at the paper in late 2004 was a story in itself. In May that year, he had left behind a career as a freelance journalist with the Daily Mirror and moved to the Cayman Islands to help set up a new weekly business newspaper, the Cayman Observer. Four months later, on September 11, a category five hurricane, Ivan, hit the Overseas British Territory, passing within 30 miles of Grand Cayman.

‘Talented' Welsh teenager tragically dies day after visiting his GP

A talented teenage rugby captain, who was rushed to hospital with a viral infection, has tragically died. Joseph Gardiner from Pyle, in South Wales, died aged 15 on July 31. The day before his death, Joseph had visited his GP suffering from shortness of breath. Speaking on behalf of Joseph's parents John and Helen and wider family, friend Adam Brooke said it was thought an undiagnosed heart defect contributed to Joseph's death. "It completely came out of the blue – there was no prior warning or anything," said Mr Brooke, reports WalesOnline. Mr Brooke said that his son had been speaking to Joseph not long before he died and the teenager was in good spirits and hoped to be released from the hospital that evening. However a short while later Joseph suffered a heart attack which is thought to have be caused by the viral infection attacking his heart. Mr Brooke is a member of Pyle RFC and his son played rugby with Joseph, who was recently named player of the year and was the captain of the under-16s team. Mr Brooke said Joseph's sudden death had left his family "distraught". The teenager leaves behind his parents and seven siblings.

Aylesford baby dies at Tunbridge Wells hospital after cardiac arrest

The family of a nine-week-old baby who died suddenly have been left “devastated” and still looking for answers. Premature Olive Susan Devall was born eight weeks early at Tunbridge Wells Hospital on April 24, but died after suffering a cardiac arrest on July 1. Rachel Devall, 24, has told of the devastation caused after her one-month old baby died. “We are all devastated,” she explained. “We can’t get over how our beautiful girl has just been cruelly taken from us and we still have no answers.”

Co. Wicklow - A Bray cycling club is in mourning after the sudden death of a "very popular" member while on a cycling trip in France. Simon MacGowan worked as a heart surgeon at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. He was a native of Bray and regularly split his time between the Co Wicklow town and Northern Ireland. Mr MacGowan was also a keen cyclist, and he was taking part in a cycling trip holiday in the French Alps when he passed away in Nice at the weekend. Mr MacGowan, who was a married family man, was also a member of both the Bray Wheelers Cycling Club and the North County Down Cycling Club. Bray Wheelers lead the tributes to Mr MacGowan, taking to social media on Monday to share their condolences to his loved ones. "Bray Wheelers are consumed with sadness to learn of the tragic loss of our club member and friend Simon MacGowan. Mr MacGowan graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin 40 years ago, before working as a consultant cardiac surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. He was also a Fellow of the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.”

Allemon, France - Tributes have been paid to an Irish triathlete who collapsed just minutes into a swimming event in southeastern France and later died. Sarah Fagan, 48, from Mountpleasant, Dundalk, Co. Louth, was participating in the Alpe D'Huez Triathlon on Friday when the tragedy happened. According to local reports, Ms Fagan was found unresponsive in Lake Verney, near the town of Allemon. The 48-year-old was taken from the water before being airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. Tragically, she died on Saturday. An investigation into the cause of her death has been launched by the French authorities and a postmortem will be conducted in the coming days.
Wrocław: 55-year-old died suddenly in front of restaurant customers

Wroclaw, Poland - On Wednesday, August 2, in the center of Wroclaw a dramatic situation occurred in one of the restaurants. A 55-year-old man who turned out to be a tourist from Ireland died at the premises, according to local media. The incident took place in a restaurant located at Kiełbaśnicza Street. According to the tuwroclaw.com portal, at some point the man in the premises felt unwell. Soon after, he lost consciousness, which triggered an immediate response from the emergency services. Unfortunately, despite quick attempts to resuscitate him, the 55-year-old could not be saved. The local portal informs that the cause of death was health problems of a foreigner. He probably suffered a heart attack, but the final confirmation of this fact will be possible after the autopsy, to which the prosecutor referred the body.
