Israeli ambassador Tzipi Hotovely has led the tributes to Nottingham-born businessman and philanthropist Marc Worth following his sudden death at the age of 61. Mr Worth chaired UK Israel Business, the successor organisation to the British-Israel Chamber of Commerce, and initiated the hugely successful Tel Aviv in London and London in Tel Aviv projects in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Ian Black, the Guardian’s former Middle East editor, has died aged 69. He had a rare neurological disease. Black, who was also a former diplomatic and European editor for the paper, died peacefully on Sunday morning surrounded by his family. After retiring from the Guardian, he became a visiting senior fellow at the Middle East Centre at the London School of Economics, and continued working as a media commentator on the region. In August 2021, Black was diagnosed with frontotemporal lobar degeneration – an uncommon neurological condition. He was later told he also showed signs of corticobasal syndrome, an even rarer disorder involving the shrinking of the brain.

Family and friends have spoken of the devastating loss of John Clare - journalist, PR specialist and front man of post-punk band Bomb Factory - who died unexpectedly at the age of 49.
John was a talented communicator both in his professional writing and on stage with his lyrics. A graduate of the University of Exeter, John completed a postgraduate diploma in newspaper journalism and worked as a reporter at the Surrey Advertiser and the Stockport Express where he met Karen, a sub-editor he would marry at Newnham College, Cambridge in 2001.

LocalGov announces that its editor, Laura Sharman, has died after a short illness. Laura was editor of public sector website LocalGov from its launch, developing it into a flourishing news and feature website with a market-leading online recruitment business. Laura joined LocalGov’s publisher Hemming Group (HGL) in 2007 when the magazine she then edited, Local Government News, was purchased by the company. HGL editorial director Michael Burton said: ‘Laura was a complete professional, always ready to take on new challenges and always cheerful. Despite being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment she insisted on working whenever she felt able to. Her sudden death just before Christmas came as a shock to all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by her colleagues and her family.’

An MP has paid tribute following the sudden death of a Kent and borough councillor. Police and ambulances were called to Cllr Cameron Beart's home in Oak Avenue, Minster, on the Isle of Sheppey in the early hours of this morning. The 31-year-old Conservative represented Queenborough and Halfway on Swale council and had been elected to represent Sheppey on Kent County Council in May 2021. Many believed he was being lined up as a parliamentary candidate for Sittingbourne and Sheppey to succeed MP Gordon Henderson. Mr Henderson told KentOnline today: "This has come a tremendous shock to my parliamentary team and me." Police confirmed officers attended a property in Oak Avenue, Minster-on-Sea to help South East Coast Ambulance Service with a "medical incident".

West Belfast family issue meningitis warning following sudden death of man (22)

The family of a west Belfast man who died suddenly from meningitis and sepsis at the age of 22 have issued a warning about the killer infection - urging others not to "take anything for granted". Odhran McKenna, who lived in Lenadoon, died in his sleep at the home he shared with his grandparents, Paul and Angela McKenna. The healthy young man, who had an 18-month son, had complained of a headache on January 7 and had went to bed thinking he had a contracted a virus that had been going around. He passed away in his sleep during the early hours of the following day. As post-mortem revealed he had contracted meningitis and sepsis.

A family have been left heartbroken after a dad and daughter died within weeks of each other. Angela Courtney, from Huyton, was preparing to spend her last Christmas with her family after being diagnosed with terminal cancer when she was told the devastating news her dad Tony had died suddenly at work. Tony, who worked as an electrician, died of a heart attack on December 14, just three weeks before his daughter Angela, 47, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on January 3. Angela, who worked as an air hostess for TUI, leaves behind her partner John and her six-year-old son Jonny. Angela was first diagnosed with stage three pancreatic cancer in January last year after 12 months of going back and forwards to the doctors and hospital appointments. Doctors initially believed Angela was suffering from a hernia after she complained of pain in her abdomen and rapid weight loss. However, she was later diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and after undergoing chemotherapy, she was told the devastating news it was terminal. The 47-year-old was moved to Marie Curie Hospice in Woolton Village in October where she died on January 3 surrounded by her family.

A mother died after waiting nearly two hours for an ambulance, before her nine-year-old daughter spent hours desperately trying to wake her up. Victoria Louisa Maame Yamphet, 40, died at home in Dagenham, east London, last week after complaining of stomach pain as her terrified daughters, aged nine and 18, watched on. Her daughter Emmanuela, 18, said her mother came home with a flu on Sunday, January 8, before her condition rapidly declined. During the night, Maame, as she was known to friends and family, became sicker, and at 6.09 am on Tuesday, January 10, her daughter called for an ambulance.

A loving mother who was seven months pregnant died suddenly on the way to hospital after struggling to sleep. Diane Judge died in the early hours of Wednesday, January 11 after suddenly falling ill. The 41-year-old mother-of-three from Birkenhead reportedly had trouble sleeping so left her bedroom and went downstairs. Diane's partner Kevin Durrant, a steward at Tranmere Rovers FC, went to check on her - and found the mum had quickly fallen very ill. Kevin, 35, called an ambulance for his partner but by the time it arrived at Arrowe Park Hospital, Diane and her unborn child had died.

Ruth Perry became the headteacher of Caversham Primary School in 2010.Her family have paid an emotional tribute describing her as 'a lovely mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, sister-in-law and friend, who leaves a huge, aching gap in all our lives.' In a tribute posted by the school on behalf of her family, they said: "We are grateful to all our friends for their thoughts and support now and in the difficult years ahead. Ruth will be remembered as the kind, funny, confident, vivacious, caring person she was and for all that she achieved in life."

A mystery still surrounds the sudden and unexplained death of a healthy 57-year-old man at his home in Dublin two years ago, an inquest had heard. A sitting of Dublin District Coroner’s Court on Monday heard autopsy results could not provide any medical reason for the death of John 'Jack' Ryan in his rented flat on New Cabra Road in Phibsborough on May 27, 2021. Although the deceased’s brother, Des Ryan, informed the inquest his late brother had received a Covid-19 vaccine about two-three weeks before he died, the coroner, Clare Keane, said there was no evidence to suggest the vaccine was a contributory factor in his death.

Tributes have been flooding in for a young Dubliner, Jamie Boud, who died at the age of just 21 on Monday, January 16. The young man, who was from Dublin 11, worked as a barman in popular Dublin pub Peadar Browns and is the son of former Sinn Fein Councillor Cathleen Carney Boud. In response to the news of his death, Peadar Browns shared a heartbreaking tribute to the young man on social media, saying he was "part of their family".

The Portlaoise community is in shock this week at the sudden death of a popular local man. The death of Tony Greene, from St Brigid's Place took place unexpectedly, on Monday, January 16. Aged in his early 50s, he was a familiar man to the Portlaoise community as he worked behind the counter in Brown's Gala Shop oppposite the church. The shop paid a beautiful tribute to their 'right hand man', sharing a wonderful black and white photo of Tony taken by Garreth O'Brien.
