Rivers Police Announce Death Of Ex-Spokesman, Omoni

Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday announced the sudden death of the immediate past Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the command Superintendent of Police, SP Nnamdi Omoni. Omoni was reported to have died suddenly on Tuesday, 30th August, 2022 at Rivers state Teaching Hospital (RSTH) just 3 days after marking his birthday with friends in Port Harcourt.
In a release signed by Grace Iringe-Koko the new spokesperson who took over from the late Omoni, the entire command has been thrown into mourning over the sudden death of Omoni. Omoni was the Divisional Police Officer DPO in charge of Elimgbu Police Division in Obio/Akpor and was also a lawyer who hailed from Rundele in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. The police confirmed that he died on Tuesday, August 30, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital stating that the cause of his death was still unknown at the time of writing this story.

Nigerian Female Students have debunked reports that The Nigerian student community has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Aishah Kaila Abdul’aziz, a 400-level Biology Education student of Sule Lamido University Kafin in Jigawa State. A statement signed by Modupe Mary Adetipa, President of Nigerian Female Students, confirmed the development but disclosed that Aisha did not die at the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) National Convention as being speculated in some quarters.
She said: “This is to debunk the ongoing news about the passing of AISHA KAILA ABDUL’AZIZ who died this morning (at a hospital in Abuja) and before her death was a 400 level, Biology Education student at Sule Lamido University Kafin in Jigawa State. That before her death, she was a resident of the capital city of the Federation (Abuja), and was never part of the institution delegates for the NANS Convention.”

New details emerge in fatal crash of Kenyan cyclist during Vermont race

Suleiman ‘Sule’ Kangangi [33] died after a high-speed crash at the Vermont Overland’s 59-mile dirt road bicycle race on Saturday. The circumstances leading to Kangangi’s crash and death remain unknown, according to Ansel Dickey, owner of Vermont Overland. Kangangi crashed while riding down Long Hill Road in South Woodstock, “a well-maintained, straight, downhill section of dirt and gravel, with good visibility,” Dickey wrote in a statement Wednesday.
Riders trailing Kangangi quickly came to his aid, according to Dickey, and local EMTs responded to the scene. Kangangi later died while en route to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. “I have no doubt that everyone in the cycling community and the 1100 riders who completed the Overland are completely perplexed about how something this horrifying could have happened to such a high-caliber rider,” Dickey wrote.
Kangangi was captain of Team AMANI, an international group of East African cyclists. The Vermont Overland race includes nearly 7,000 feet of climbing and utilizes unmaintained Class 4 roads in and around Brownsville.

Kenya Airways Announce Second Death On Board

Kenya Airways announce a second onboard death, as a passenger who was onboard one of their flights from Kenya to New York to Nairobi died. This unfortunate incident comes only 9 days after the airline had confirmed another onboard death of a passenger who was also on a Nairobi – New York flight on August 22nd.
On Friday, the airline released a statement that explained that the passenger who was aboard KQ002 Kenya Airways flight died on September 2nd, 2022 at 6:30 am. The flight departed from Nairobi on September 1st, 2022 at 11:55 pm. According to Kenya Airways, the individual was found unresponsive mid-flight on the vessel and was later pronounced dead after test results. The airline, also known as KQ, has shared its utmost concerns and condolences to both the passenger’s family and those who were on board the tragic flight.
This is not the first time that the airline has been in the firing line, as just under two weeks ago another onboard death was announced. The departed, named Peterson Njuguna Mwangi, was similarly on board a Nairobi – New York flight when he suddenly became breathless. The flight was more than 7 hours in before the passenger began experiencing fatal breathing difficulties. In an attempt to save his life, the medical team was forced to divert the flight destination from Jowo Kenyatta International Airport to Morocco so that he could be medically attended to immediately, though sadly this was unsuccessful.

IDF tank training suspended after soldier killed in armored accident

A soldier was killed in what was described as an extremely rare event during a routine training exercise early Wednesday morning on the Golan heights, the IDF said. He was identified as Eytan Pichman, 19, from Beersheba, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of sergeant. Pichman served in the 36th Armored Division's 82nd Battalion as a loader in a tank, and was taking part in a drill near the Nafah base in the North when he was killed.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m., when Pichman did not answer a call from his platoon leader, who was standing at the top of the tank. When the platoon leader looked into the tank, he saw Pichman lying on the floor with his head caught between the turret and the hull. Pichman had sustained a massive head injury, and the platoon leader summoned urgent medical care. After Pichman was removed from the tank, the battalion doctor confirmed his death.
The military believes Pichman was killed on the spot, but it remains unclear why he was found in an area behind where the loader stands, known as the "triangle of death," where soldiers are not supposed to place anything, such as a leg, helmet or weapon, when the turret is moving.
According to a former officer who served in the Armored Corps, the loader is the only member of the tank crew who is always moving and who is in the most unstable area of the tank. A fatality of this nature is rare because the helmet is meant to provide protection. Nevertheless, loaders who get hit by the back of the turret, which is made of heavy steel, can be seriously injured. Since Pichman had to be lying down for his head to be caught in that section of the tank, the military believes he had already fallen to the floor unconscious due to being hit by something in the tank, having had a cardiac arrest, or having fainted.
Alongside an investigation by the Military Police, the IDF will attempt to reconstruct the event. It has appointed OC 205th Brigade Lt.-Col. Shaul Israeli to lead a committee of experts who will investigate the incident.

An 18-year-old man was killed and two others seriously injured in a collision between their car and a truck in the West Bank in the early hours of Sunday morning. The three occupants of the car — all aged 18, 19 or 20 — were taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva for treatment for multiple injuries. The hospital later announced the death of the young man, who was subsequently named as Oded Hagar from the settlement of Yakir in the West Bank. He was the youngest of six brothers.
