Note: Because our South America researcher is on hiatus, this week there are just a few items from that region, included at the end.
CANADA
A note from our lead Canada researcher:
As high as it is—higher even than the toll in Italy, although Canada has a much smaller population—the weekly toll that we have been recording in these compilations is much lower than it ought to be, due to the terseness of obituaries from some of Canada’s highly multicultural populations. The death notices from those communities are less detailed than those from the general population.
There is a similar void of information in our northern regions. It is extremely difficult to find death notices of any kind for those communities, whose rate of “sudden deaths” may well be hidden. What all this means, in short, is that the true rate of “sudden deaths” in Canada is probably much higher–perhaps five times higher–than the quite high rate that we’ve recorded here.
A note on suicides:
Suicides by young people are up 22% during the pandemic in Canada and 17 other countries (and it’s why we’re including suicides in our compilations):

Quebec doctors urged not to kill patients after increase in 'non-complaint' assisted suicide cases
August 13, 2023
Nearly 5,000 patients died by MAiD within the last year, amounting to roughly 8 percent of all deaths in the province. The Canadian province of Quebec is telling its doctors to refrain from killing patients that have asked to die by lethal injection through the country's controversial medically assisted suicide program. In a memo sent to Quebec doctors, the province warned that there has been a rise in "non-compliant" cases, and urged them to reconsider prescribing their patients with a fatal injection through Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD), according to Daily Mail. "It is too early to conclude that there has been a drift in the MAiDs administered, but great rigor is required for providers and great vigilance for the commission," the Aug. 4 memo said, which was obtained by the outlet. The memo warned doctors that the new rules do not go into effect until Spring of 2024, and claimed that doctors had been sharing "erroneous information" about the new rules which resulted in an increase in non-compliant cases. It also stated that doctors have not been giving patients enough time to decide if they want to die by assisted suicide before receiving a lethal injection. Furthermore, doctors were told in the memo that they need to "space out appointments" in order to give their patients more time to decide. They were accused of not getting a second doctor's opinion before approving fatal jabs to their patients, according to the Mail. "Shopping around for a favorable second opinion is not an acceptable practice," the memo said. In 2021-2022, Quebec discovered that 15 assisted deaths, or 0.4 percent of all assisted deaths, did not meet the regulations between 2021 and 2022. According to the outlet, in six of those situations, the victim did not have a significant and incurable disease but was still prescribed death. Nearly 5,000 patients died by MAiD within the last year, amounting to roughly 8 percent of all deaths in the province, the outlet reports. This comes after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Canada encouraged doctors to discuss medically assisted deaths with patients.
Reported on June 7:
EXCLUSIVE: Canada is on track for another record-busting year of euthanasia deaths, with a 35% jump to some 13,500 state-sanctioned suicides in 2022, a DailyMail.com projection shows.
June 7, 2023
Canada has seen another record-busting year of euthanasia deaths, with a 35 percent rise to some 13,500 state-sanctioned suicides in 2022, an analysis of official data shows. Canada's health chiefs won't release their formal tally for some weeks, but data from Ontario, Alberta, Quebec, and Nova Scotia already show steep rises in euthanasia deaths last year. Based on those numbers, the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, a campaign group, assessed that Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) cases rose from 10,064 in 2021 to some 13,500 in 2022. Canada has one of the world's most permissive assisted suicide programs. Critics say it's on a perilous road to mass euthanasia and ever-more pressure on the sick, disabled and poor to end their lives prematurely. Alex Schadenberg, director of the coalition, said euthanasia rates were 'skyrocketing' because a 'heavy promotion of MAiD within our medical system' had 'normalized' lethal injections. 'Every major healthcare institution has a MAiD team which will literally approach everyone who may qualify for MAiD and ask them if they want to die,' Schadenberg told DailyMail.com. Quebec saw a 51 percent uptick in MAiD deaths, from 2,427 in financial year 2021 to 3,663 in 2022. That means some 7 percent of all deaths in Quebec are state-sanctioned, making it the third top cause of death in the province after cancer and heart disease. Today, any adult with a serious illness, disease, or disability can seek help in dying. In Canada, both options are referred to as MAiD, though more than 99.9 percent of such procedures are carried out by a doctor. The number of MAiD deaths in Canada has risen steadily by about a third each year from the previous year.

Calgary - It is with utmost sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Leigh Verstraete, on Monday, August 7, 2023. Leigh played community hockey in Varsity Acres and was then signed to the WHL, where he played forward for the Red Deer Rustlers, Billings Bighorns, and the Calgary Wranglers, with Coach Doug Sauter. Leigh achieved a Canadian boyhood dream when he was drafted to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, playing professionally for six years before suffering a career-ending injury. He worked in Calgary as an account executive at Tie Communications and then on a number of Business Development teams in the oil and gas industry for Tarpon Energy, Flint Energy, and most recently, PTW Energy. Of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully with family by his side at home on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at the age of 75 years. Michael was born in Co. Tipperary, Ireland. In 1975 he graduated the University of Lethbridge with a degree in Psychology, Sociology and Political Science. He then became a proud Canadian citizen in 1977. Throughout his career in Mental Health, he pioneered community nursing best practices and culminated as the Mental Health Programs Contracts Coordinator for the Chinook Health Region. In late 2021, Michael had to regrettably step back entirely from his community engagements to focus on his family and his own health, as he fought an inspirational battle against an aggressive brain cancer known as GBM, or glioblastoma multiforme. He recently made medical history in Canada as the first Albertan to be authorized and receive the groundbreaking and potentially life-changing Autologous Dendritic Cell Vaccine treatment for brain tumours. Most recently, he published his memoirs entitled ‘A Long Way From Tipperary’. The book is available for purchase through Brain Cancer Canada’s website with 100% of proceeds being donated to fund crucial research for brain cancer. After a tragic struggle from hospital-related complications, Michael passed away in his own home with the good fortune and blessing to have his entire family surrounding him as he took his final breaths. He lived a rich life full of deep friendships, community and love; he was surrounded by the same in his final hours. Donations can be made in loving memory of Michael to Brain Cancer Canada.

How about an autopsy on the 9 year old with the respiratory failure at the beginning.. I'll bet it wasn't climate change.
The euthanasia report at the beginning is insane. It’s almost like sanitizing human death. Normalize and sanitize and yet everyone is so squeamish over the death penalty? IDK but there’s something sinister about all this. Very dark. 😔 no more value of human life 🤷♀️😢
