YouTube star and novelist Hank Green revealed his cancer diagnosis opens in a new tab or window in a Vlogbrothers video on Friday that has garnered 6.6 million views as of Tuesday afternoon. The popular internet personality will soon begin treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma, a form of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. He opted to first share his personal health news with the online community for which he creates a variety of content -- sometimes with his brother John Green, the best-selling author behind books like The Fault in Our Stars. "Everybody has been great and very supportive, but biopsy, uh, good news, bad news," Hank Green said in the video. "One, it's cancer. It's called lymphoma. It's a cancer of the lymphatic system. And good news is, it's something called Hodgkin's lymphoma. It's the most treatable, like one of the most treatable cancers. It responds very well to treatment. The goal is cure."
Medical drama halts American Ballet Theatre gala in front of starry audience

[Mick Jagger and Katie Couric, both proudly “vaccinated”]
New York - There was a shocking start to the American Ballet Theatre’s fall season when its gala performance had to be halted Tuesday night when a theatergoer collapsed — not once, but twice. Guests at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, including Mick Jagger, Katie Couric, Annette Bening, Molly Ringwald and Zac Posen, had a nervous wait while medical staff attended to man who had suffered a suspected heart attack midway through the program. The drama began when an unidentified man got up to exit during a short performance from “Romeo & Juliet” — but passed out in the middle of the aisle, leaving patrons to scurry over to assist him. The performance continued, the dancers apparently oblivious to the emergency, as an audience member shouted, “We need a doctor!” When the brief excerpt from the Prokofiev ballet came to an end, another stunned person in the audience yelled for the house lights to be turned on. “This is priority!” they shouted. A staffer announced over the speakers that an in-house medical team was assisting the gentleman and he eventually stood up and walked on — but collapsed again. A woman in the crowd who tended to the emergency was overheard telling guests, “He had a heart attack.”
Off-duty pilot accused of trying to shut off plane’s engines mid-flight said he was having a nervous breakdown, federal complaint shows
October 24, 2023
The off-duty pilot accused of trying to shut down the engines of an Alaska Airlines plane midflight on Sunday said he was having a nervous breakdown and told the flight crew he needed to be subdued, according to a federal complaint. Alaska Airlines pilot Joseph D. Emerson, 44, has been charged in federal court with interfering with a flight crew, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon announced Tuesday. That charge comes on the heels of dozens of state charges in Oregon, including 83 felony counts of attempted murder, 83 counts of reckless endangerment and one count of endangering an aircraft, booking records show. He pleaded not guilty to all state charges Tuesday.
Emerson attempted to cut fuel to the plane’s engines while the flight was en route from Washington state to San Francisco on Sunday, according to authorities. But it was the quick action of the aircraft’s captain and first officer that kept the engines from failing completely, the airline said.
Emerson was subdued by members of the flight crew but then attempted to grab the handle of an emergency exit during the flight’s descent, according to a release from the US attorney’s office. The flight was forced to divert to Portland, Oregon, where the suspect was taken into custody by Port of Portland police, the agency said in a statement. While in custody, Emerson told a police officer he became depressed about six months ago, according to an affidavit authored by an FBI agent and included alongside the federal complaint. Emerson denied taking any medications, the affidavit says, but he did discuss psychedelic mushrooms with the responding officer. “The officer and Emerson talked about the use of psychedelic mushrooms and Emerson said it was his first-time taking mushrooms,” the affidavit says. Asked specifically if Emerson told officers he had been under the influence of mushrooms at the time of the incident, a spokesperson for the US Attorney’s Office in Oregon told CNN that remains part of their ongoing investigation.
While in custody, Emerson said he was “admitting to what I did,” per the affidavit. “I’m not fighting any charges you want to bring against me, guys,” he said. Emerson is being held without bail at the Multnomah County Jail and appeared in court on Tuesday wearing a blue jail uniform with his hands restrained behind his back. His release was not addressed at Tuesday’s hearing, said Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Jenna Plank, noting his case requires a “more robust release hearing” within five days. Online records do not list an attorney for Emerson, and CNN has been working to determine if he has legal representation in both state and federal court.
