Nicholas Brendon rushed to hospital following cardiac incident
August 18, 2022
A spokesperson revealed on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star's Instagram page that the 51-year-old had to be rushed to hospital in an ambulance earlier this month due to an irregular heart rate of over 100 beats a minute. "Nicky sends his love and wanted me to apologize that he hasn't been going live as much lately and to give everyone an update," the post reads. "Nicky is doing fine now but he had to be rushed to emergency about two weeks ago because of a cardiac incident (tachycardia/arrhythmia)."
The spokesperson went on to explain that Brendon, who played Xander Harris on the show, had a similar cardiac incident after he underwent surgery on his spine last year due to a dysfunction in the roots of some of his spinal nerves. "Some of you might remember he had a similar incident after his second spinal surgery last year (for Cauda Equina) but this time. He is trying to get a little more rest and has been concentrating on medical appointments (sic)," the post concluded.
Small Plane Crashes on I-8 Freeway, Lands on El Cajon Roadway
August 18, 2022
A small plane crashed onto a major San Diego freeway and landed on a city street in El Cajon Thursday, injuring at least one person and damaging a car. The small silver plane crashed into a railing on Interstate 8 at about 10:35 a.m. and came to a stop under the freeway overpass on Greenfield Drive, California Highway Patrol said. According to Flightaware, the plane was a fixed-wing, single-engine 1951 Cessna 195.
CHP Officer Travis Garrow said the agency received a "mayday" call as the plane was going down. Carrie Zub was driving westbound on Greenfield Drive with her dog when the plane stuck her white Hyundai and crashed. Neither of the vehicle's occupants were harmed by the impact.
Zub said the pilot was pulled from the plane by bystanders. Video from the scene showed paramedics and firefighters working on a man who was bleeding from the head. He was placed into a neck brace and put on a gurney before being taken away by ambulance.
The pilot, a 65-year-old man from San Diego, suffered major injuries in the crash but was expected to survive, CHP said.
Matthew Houser was driving when he saw a bright glare 100 feet away from him. He watched the plane crash in between the overpasses.
Garrow noted that the plane did not leak much fuel and the crash site was a "pretty small scene." The plane's single engine, which is located at the front of the aircraft, was torn partially off, leaving the cockpit exposed. “Pretty lucky that no one [on the ground] sustained any injuries, so that’s a good thing," Garrow said.
It was not immediately clear what caused the plane to go down and Garrow could not say if the plane was attempting to land on the freeway at the time. CHP was conducting a preliminary investigation and the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were heading to the scene to conduct their own investigations.

After sudden cancer discovery, high school quarterback 'in a battle for what the rest of his life looks like'
August 9, 2022
Cole Mullins treated this football off-season with Hanford (Wash.) High School like any returning second-year starting quarterback would - with a high level of quiet confidence as a backfield leader. "He's been our guy," third-year Hanford coach Nick Baker said.
But right now, Mullins could use all the strength and support his Benton County community, including football family, can provide. The teenager is in a fight with a rare cancer - Ewing Sarcoma - that aggressively attacks the soft tissue and bones.
A month ago, an excited Mullins was finishing up summer workouts, returning from the Eastern Washington University team camp in Cheney. He mentioned to Baker that he was feeling sudden soreness in his non-throwing (left) shoulder, and could barely lift his arm. "They thought it was a nerve thing in his back," Baker said. "He has been seeing a chiropractor and receiving massage therapy."
In the last week of July, Baker said the teenager was walking into his house when he began dragging his foot. He told his mother, Danielle, that it "felt heavy." Danielle immediately rushed her son to Kadlec Regional Medical Center emergency room where doctors did a battery of tests and scans, discovering a tumor along the boy's spine.
Mullins was immediately flown by helicopter from the Tri-Cities to Seattle Children's Hospital. Ten minutes after his arrival, he went into surgery. "They (surgeons) removed most of the tumor, and they fused a few vertebrates in his back together," Baker said.

Note to Readers
August 18, 2022
I realize that nobody subscribes here due to a desire to read about personal drama and difficulties. Life entails struggles for all of us at some point. But in response to several well-intentioned inquiries from subscribers, I feel compelled to explain the ongoing lack of content published here.
As some of you will recall, I addressed — in the introduction to our July 20 Outside Voices debate about crime policy, as well as in the comment section to my July 30 report on a recent ruling involving Google and Rumble — the relative lack of activity here over the prior six weeks. In essence, beyond a need to slow down a bit and recharge batteries after a torrid pace of writing since I left The Intercept for Substack in October, 2020, I am developing a new and quite significant project that we intend to unveil next month. Building that new project — which I am certain will dramatically expand the reach and impact of the work we are doing here — had consumed most of my time. I indicated that, with the new project soon to be unveiled, I expected that the regular pace of publishing and reporting here would resume very shortly.
That is when the saga of life unexpectedly intervened. On Sunday, August 7, my husband David Miranda was at a campaign event for his re-election to the Brazilian Congress. He began experiencing intense pain, went to the Emergency Room later that day, and was quickly diagnosed with a severe gastro-intestinal disorder that required him to be immediately admitted to the ICU. He has remained there ever since, in critical condition, and several complications caused by his original condition have made his situation quite dire. Our family remains very hopeful for his full recovery, but suffice to say, the ordeal has been extremely difficult. All of my energy and attention are devoted to his hospitalization and to the need to support our children and myself as we await improvements in his condition.
Again, I realize that this is not why people subscribe here but I feel an obligation to subscribers to honestly explain my recent inability to produce the content which you expect, especially in light of the increasing number of questions. Realizing that subscribing can be a financial burden for some people, we will make some adjustment to your subscriptions in conjunction with the new project — such as extending the termination date by a couple of months — to compensate for the lack of activity here recently.
Many subscribers here are already aware of this situation from news reports and the few social media postings I have made regarding David's condition. I am grateful for the many well-wishes, prayers and thoughtful messages of support we have received. I'm looking very forward to the day that our family is back home together and I can return to doing the journalistic work here that I love.

Message to the Saker Community from Andrei (UPDATED)
April 27, 2022
[. . . ] Right now I need to deal with another reality: I have some health issues which I now need to take care of and which I cannot continue to try to ignore.
So, after some brainstorming with my family and key collaborators on the blog this is what we have decided and how that will impact you:
I will personally stop blogging until my health is back where it should be. This will take several months, probably about 3 months.
During this period, the blog will be run by my assistant Amarynth and our IT guru and chief of moderation Herb who are both trusted friends with whom I have been working for years and who have my full confidence and support.
Specifically, while my own analyses will be suspended, the rest of the blog will continue to work as usual.
Starting May 1st, our (superb) guest authors will send their contributions directly to Amarynth who will then schedule them and post them. In truth, she has been doing that upon my request for many months already and I do not expect any problems on that side. Until my return, her editorial decisions will be final.
Herb has been the head of moderation and he, and his team of moderators, will continue to work, the only difference is that the final decisions will be taken by Herb and our moderators and I won’t be involved in it in any way (my role until now was minimal anyway). Until my return, the decisions of the moderators will be final.
Our team of translators will continue to provide you with translations including subtitled videos, translated texts and anything else needing translation.
The Saker staff and others will continue to provide their SITREPs and analyses on a regular basis.

'Thrilled to be alive': Former MP Doug Eyolfson rescued by firefighter after heart attack during run
July 21, 2022
A Winnipeg doctor and former member of Parliament says he's grateful to an off-duty firefighter who likely saved his life after he suffered a sudden heart attack while on a run in Vancouver. Dr. Doug Eyolfson, an emergency physician, was doing some marathon training on the sea wall in Vancouver's Stanley Park Monday when he suddenly collapsed.
"I remember making it to the other side of the park, and ... the next thing you know I was in hospital," Eyolfson, who was attending a conference in Vancouver, said in a Wednesday interview with CBC Manitoba's Up to Speed, just hours before coronary bypass surgery. Eyolfson says heart issues run in his family — his father had the same surgery 25 years ago — but he had no warning before his own heart attack. "I've always known never to ignore symptoms. I'm assuming this happened very suddenly."
The doctor, who was the Liberal MP for the Winnipeg riding of Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia-Headingley from 2015 to 2019, says he was told an off-duty firefighter who was also out running started CPR and called 911. He waited roughly 20 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. "I got two shocks and that brought back my rhythm, and then they took me to St. Paul's Hospital," Eyolfson said.
He now knows he had an 80 per cent blockage of his left coronary artery — a type of blockage doctors sometimes refer to as "the widowmaker" — so he believes the efforts of the firefighter and the responding paramedics likely saved his life. Without that, "I would be known as 'the dear departed,'" he said. "I had no pulse. If he hadn't been there and started pounding on me and I hadn't been shocked, then, yeah, I would have died."

I'm an unvaccinated man in his mid-sixties who had a 10-day bout of Covid (the original Alpha strain) 1-1/2 years ago. Generaly, it was like having a medium intensity but very persistent flu, accompanied by an unusual degree of fatigue, and (the reason I'm writing this) precisely the same symptoms that Abby Martin had mentioned in Dr. Miller's post above. These symptoms were extreme to the point that, apart from the severe aching, my hip and thigh region was rendered semi-lame for 2-3 days. And, to reiterate, I was not vaccinated at that time, or at any later time-- indeed, I was a skeptic and smelled a rat regarding the whole operation from Day 1. However, those spike proteins seem have their devious ways, whether they're introduced by the virus or the vaccine. Fortunately, following 6 weeks of residual symptoms once the fever broke (these consisted of occasional cardiac arrhythmias, sudden faintness upon extended physical exertion, and lingering pulmonary rawness/constriction), everything cleared and has remained clear, although it took some additional months to regain my original weight and strength. Would I be able to say the same if I had been vaccinated? Who knows?
Boy, big pharma really made out with this racket. I’d love to copy their model of 1.). Creating a product with no significant benefit 2.). Working with the government to mandate and enforce said product 3.). Not being held liable for any adverse reaction including death.
