Thought provoking piece. They are judge and jury because they are superior. Kind of like the Nazis.

I “encountered” my next door neighbor the other day and we went from discussing back yard chicken coops to the state of the world. He gave the requisite groan about the Ukraine and then launched into January 6, a favorite topic of the liberal elites. I asked him if he wasn’t concerned about censorship and he explained that he has a “post-graduate degree” (architect) and that he’s capable of digging for the truth but that uneducated people aren’t capable of that, hence Jan. 6, and that “disinformation” isn’t the same as censorship. He said that it’s “sad” that the country is now divided into educated and uneducated. Such an elitist snob, as I’ve found myself surrounded here in Boulder and as you have found with “fellow academics.”

They are so certain of their superiority that they miss the kind of big part about censorship serving whoever is in power and that could change and are they against censorship then?

The authors of this hit piece against you have lost their ability, if they ever had it, to think independently … I.e., to think. Everything is about moral outrage these days giving idiots an excuse to be idiots.

I would have been tempted to remind him that highly educated people make the best kind of useful idiot.

Absolutely! I was tempted to say a lot of things but as Mark has very helpfully pointed out, don’t engage with a closed mind. Or put another way, “he who knows not and knows not that he know not, he is a fool, avoid him.”

Your ‘post graduate degree architect neighbor’ is an elitist snob…but then that is what goes with the territory in that profession…I worked in the interior design/landscape design and construction field for 45 years…architects generally are insufferable and think that ‘their you know what’ doesn’t stink! And as far as how to do stuff…a good contractor is far more ‘educated’ as to how buildings go together, than the majority of architects I have worked with.

I am not American. I always design the houses I restore, renovate and build new. Then ALWAYS consult a good Draftsman to draw up my plans, and am involved from beginning to completion of any Project.

Won't list here the times when using different professions, that one informs them of something that is supposed to be in their ball court of trained knowledge. Especially as the World and its standards have dropped considerably in the last 30++++ years especially, and now we are seeing an incredible drop in standards, and the people who are supposed to uphold them.

Learnt that lesson re check and think for yourself, when first starting out. The classic experience was from a very prestigious Law firm partner, who when I said that I had physically gone to a housing project, that I discovered a Sewer Manhole in the middle of the street, then followed it through going to the Head office of Sewer etc., and then seeing the local Plumbing Inspector on site. Yet the Law firm were involved in the purchase of the land.

Contacted the "friend" Prestigious Lawyer and complained about his lack of professionalism. Immediately he said "Oh we can represent you and claim compensation for that". No self-effacement at all. WIN WIN in all directions for him/firm.

Motto: ALWAYs rely on yourself and never take for granted these professional money collectors. NOW MORE THAN EVER!!!!!

One wonders about that statement in relation to the two Authors of this diatribe re Mark Crispin Miller?   that is a very fair question.  John Hopkins Uni is very involved for many years in the scenario we are all suffering through.

Look at the Jeffrey Epstein's characters who were and are welcomed on Campuses by Professors who recieved "grants" from Epstein's and others "FOUNDATIONS" and still do.

NO, I use my own common-sense and can spot B/S a  mile off, and this abuse of language by these paid hacks, also gives them away.  Its a wonder there is not the glossy smiling younger photo - head shot only - that also identifies, also a very early promotion in an area of employment, where one looks for experience.

Many of these people who often are the first in their families to have a Degree, but have not got the depth of personal qualities/characteristics' that are so sadly lacking these days.

They have a zeal for outward identifiers not the inward development that is so desperately needed - it is beyond their educated capacities.  And "CRITICAL THINKING"  is lost in and to them, as its not taught as needs be now more than ever, anyway,  they are so desperate to "please their Masters" that they "FOLLOW THE SCRIPT" off shallowness and psychopathic mantras .

A friend told me of her Dr - over 50 years ago, said to her "I have nothing else to learn, I have my degree in Medicine".  GOD HELP US ALL.

Such attacks from clueless, ethics-free, bought and paid for idiots are the sincerest from of flattery - at least in my book. These two censorship promoting clowns using the phrases "academic integrity" and "academic freedom" in the same sentence is perhaps the most perfect distillation of academic "wokeness" I could imagine. "In opposing academic freedom - I am supporting academic freedom!" Uh, yeah, right. Amazing!

I keep thinking of the words De Gaulle spoke to one of his assistants after he returned from JFK's funeral. He knew the American deep state had assassinated JFK, just as Dulles and the CIA had assisted right wing elements in France in attempted assassinations of De Gaulle himself. But De Gaulle was not optimistic that the American people had the stomach for the truth. He told his assistant of we Americans: "they don't want to know, they don't want to find out, they won't let themselves find out" - the truth of what happened. 9/11, Covid-19 and whatever comes next are the direct result of that cowardice on our part. If ever there was a time to finally find our courage as a people - surely this must be it.

This is truly beyond appalling, academics claiming to be proponents of academic freedom calling for Nazi or Soviet-style committees to enforce some sort of orthodoxy. Who, pray tell, will decide what is orthodox and what is not ? Let’s get Berubé and Ruth some wigs and black caps so they can pronounce dead any line of thinking of which they disapprove. As for academic rigor and command of facts maybe they should try reading Miller’s books, his essays on film and television, and most important of all, I have a question for them: How can you accuse a professor of these things when you haven’t attended a single class he’s taught over a decades- long career? That amounts to journalistic and academic malpractice. Also, this attack piece gives the false impression that the lawsuit was filed in the wake of the university clearing Miller’s name, but that’s not how things transpired. I would suggest the possibility that the attacks by these esteemed academicians and self-appointed censors comprise a proxy war in behalf of like-minded friends and colleagues some of them among the defendants in Miller’s lawsuit. Furthermore, Miller’s assessment of vaccine safety or any other issue has nothing to do with his teaching, strictly speaking. Everyone in this country is free (or so we claim) to express opinions without being prosecuted or persecuted. As to the vaccines it is clear that Berubé and Ruth accept uncritically and without having done any research whatever the CDC puts out despite the mounting evidence that a. The Pfizer clinical trials were fraudulent (see whistleblower Brook Jackson). b. Just about everything the government has claimed about the vaccines has proven false. Just to cite a couple of examples: they said the spike protein and lipid nanoparticles would stay near the injection site but they do not. They said the vaccines would prevent disease transmission, but they do not. Why do Berubé and Ruth think that the FDA asked for 75 years to release the Pfizer clinical trial data? Is that fact made up by conspiracy theorists like Miller? Odds are they are ignorant of that fact, just as they are likely ignorant of the fact that the Pfizer vaccine failed the all cause mortality endpoint but was nevertheless unleashed on an unsuspecting and vulnerable world, a world created in part by people like Berubé and Ruth.

It is embarrassing to read such superficial criticisms of such a deep thinker as Dr. Miller, but horrifying that an academic press would promote such garbage. It does seem as if other academics involved in the lawsuit may be playing in the shadows….

I find it so disturbing that so many women are so eager to shut down speech they don't like and people they disagree. I know there's a fair amount of men doing the same but there's something quite ingrained my sex' chromosome when it comes to this, whether it's forever banning their children from ever playing again with the neighbor kid because they got into a typical childish squabble or deciding another person whose ideas they disagree with forever be banished from society.

Without personally knowing the two intellectuals in question I find myself drawn to the conclusion that they are proponents of censorship due to the fact they, and their vaunted ilk are incapable of teaching students how to think for themselves. This, of course leaves them the only other option they can conceive, imposing their ignorance on others via force.

For decades now, as I understand it, active suppression of "hate speech", as a moral necessity, has been indoctrinated to university students. I can't remember the name of the philosopher who was the first inspiration for it (a French surname.) So now what we seem to have is a generation of intellectuals who in large numbers reject the very notion of free speech (even as the range of speech that's the target of their repression has expanded.)

So this is scary. One need not revere the First Amendment just because it's venerable law but because it's a thoroughly considered response to some of the most potent lessons of all of history.

Short sighted to their own detriment. Not sure how they missed history telling us censorship/propoganda will turn to something you care about. (Not that you can use Google to do a deeper dive into either 9-11 or Sandy Hook in 2022. Maybe still on yandex.com .) It always amazes me those who profess a belief in Free Speech, offer limits and encourage 'cancel culture', as if only allowing speech you agree with is standing up for Free Speech. Protecting Free Speech means sometimes you're required to stand up for a person's right to say something which may make your blood boil. This goes for speech both on and off university campuses. Do they offer a solution to combat a prevailing narrative when it's wrong? How do we speak against it if our speech is censored.

For anyone who may have missed it, here is Mark being interviewed on The Corbett Report, October 2021. https://www.corbettreport.com/solutionswatch-propaganda/
