Good Samaritan Doug Stansell dies of heart attack trying to help teen hit by car
November 15, 2022
An Ohio father suffered a fatal heart attack moments after finding the body of a dying teen who had been struck by a hit-and-run driver. Doug Stansell, 56, was driving with his adult sons to pick up his daughters and their sisters from their shift at Taco Bell around 1 a.m. Monday in Anderson Township when they made the gruesome discovery, according to news station WXIX. The trio initially thought the unresponsive body of Eli Jones, 15, was a garbage can, 21-year-old son Jon Stansell told the outlet. “It was dark,” he reportedly said. “I said, ‘Dad, it’s a body.’” The Stansells turned around and called 911 after seeing the mortally wounded young man, and waited to talk to arriving first responders, according to the outlet. Doug was “fine” and acting “normal” until the family continued on to the nearby fast food restaurant and he became very quiet, Jon said. “I guess once he parked, he let everything sink in,” his son explained to the station. “I don’t know if it was too much for him to handle.” As they sat in the parking lot, the elder Stansell collapsed in his seat. “He was talking to me and then he looked quiet and fainted back and rolled his head toward me,” Jon said. “He couldn’t talk or breathe.” Doug was taken to the hospital, where he died later that day, according to the station. His children believed that the stress of seeing the gravely injured teen led to his unexpected demise.

Bryce Downey, 44
November 13, 2022
Evergreen, CO - On October 28, my son, Bryce Downey, passed away suddenly and entirely unexpectedly. He was 44 years old. My wife and I took Bryce to the Emergency Room at St. Anthony’s Hospital the previous afternoon because he was overly tired and feeling ill. We spent countless agonizing hours watching his condition worsen. There was no definite cause of his death, although a fast-acting cancer was suspected. He passed away in front of our eyes. He loved his job as Assistant Manager at Evergreen Big R store. A tireless worker, he valued his “family” there. His knowledge and dedication will surely be missed.

Cello Laertes Pettiford, 63
November 6, 2022
Cello Laertes Pettiford, 63, of Berwyn, IL, died peacefully on August 5, 2022, from a heart attack. Preceding him in death were his father Oscar C. Pettiford (the renown jazz musician) in 1960, and stepfather Luther C. Griffin (interior decorator) in 2002. Cello was born October 8, 1958, in Manhattan, N.Y. A month later, he and his mother joined his father, who was in Europe on an extensive tour with "Jazz at Carnegie Hall." Thereafter, the family moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, where his twin sisters were born, and where his father suddenly died from a rare polio-like virus. The family returned to America when Cello was 6 yrs. old. He grew up in Chicago, where his mother remarried, and his youngest sister was born.
After elementary school, and upon his completion of high school at Lane Tech, Cello joined the U.S. Military, which became his lifetime career. He served as an Army Medical Specialist. While stationed at Fort Riley, he met and married fellow-soldier "Mimi" (Mary Ellen Howell), became a parent of 2 sons, and attended Kansas State University for a BA Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon retirement he served in the Army Reserves training recruits; joined the Illinois National Guard; and obtained an AAS honors degree in Paralegal Studies, at Wilbur Wright College, Chicago. He was currently pursuing a degree in Inner City Studies, at Northeastern Illinois University.
Cello was an avid lover of baseball, jazz, good food, and family; but his greatest love was God, the Holy Trinity, and people from every walk of life! He was a peacemaker who truly resembled "... the light of the world." (Matthew 5:14-16)

Jay Aronoff, 60
August 26, 2022
Cincinnati, Ohio - Jay discovered his passion for music, specifically the guitar in middle school and consistently pursued it. Throughout his life he played his many guitars with a variety of bands whose music crossed the gamut: various kinds of rock, jazz and most recently guitar duets. Over the years he taught guitar to a multitude of people. Most recently, his passion shined most brightly with his guitar duet partner, also his amazing girlfriend, Amy McFarland. Every day Jay went "jay walking" exploring his beloved city, Cincinnati; often discovering long forgotten places like outdoor steps with vegetation growing through its cracks and numbering in excess of 100. Jay touched the lives of so many through his music. You will hear his spirit in music, listen carefully for it.

From a reader: Jay Aronoff was a working guitarist (and a truly fine player) in Cincinnati, also the son of senator Stanley Aronoff (downtown Cincinnati's big theatre is the Aronoff Center). Jay died of a heart attack last summer at age 60. Ironically, as I saw him around all the time, the only time I ever played with him was when I sat in on one song on another friend's cover band gig, we played "Some Kind Of Wonderful".
Three incidents here this week: A co worker having to take time off for his father having had 'either a stroke or a heart attack'. Another Co worker talking about a relative that has had a stroke and a client who never came back after an estimate now found to have had a stroke and not likely to be coming back soon.
That people act as if this is normal is more frustrating than the government lying about it.
The 2 yr old's starvation death due to his father dropping dead in their apartment is the saddest most horrific gutting tragic adverse event story that I've read since the Covid Operation started. Absolutely no words.... utter grief and dissociating
