'American Idol' runner-up Willie Spence dies at 23 after car crash
October 12, 2022
Former "American Idol" runner-up Willie Spence died after a car accident on Tuesday, according to authorities. Spence, 23, finished as runner-up to Chayce Beckham in the show's 19th season, which aired last year. The crash occurred at around 4 p.m. Tuesday in Marion County in East Tennessee, when Spence's 2019 Jeep Cherokee "left the roadway" and collided with the back of a tractor trailer that was stopped on the shoulder of the east side of Interstate 24, at the 147 mile marker, according to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Marion County Medical Examiner. Both Spence, who is originally from Georgia, and the driver of the tractor trailer, who is 68 years old, were wearing seat belts, according to the report.
A spokesperson for the Tennessee Highway Patrol said the agency is investigating why Spence's car veered off the road. Marion County Medical Examiner Barbara O'Neal said the cause of death was "multisystem trauma due to motor vehicle accident" and that Spence was pronounced dead at the scene. Just hours before the crash, Spence posted a video of himself singing "You Are My Hiding Place" on his Instagram page.

A follow-up to our April 6 report on a Navy SEAL candidate’s “sudden death”:
Cause of Navy SEAL candidate Seaman Kyle Mullen’s death during ‘Hell Week’ revealed
October 12, 2022
The Navy SEAL trainee who died just hours after completing “Hell Week” succumbed to acute pneumonia and cardiac arrest, officials announced. Seaman Kyle Mullen, 24, from Manalapan, New Jersey, died in February “in the line of duty, not due to his own misconduct,” according to a 320-page report that was released Wednesday by the Navy’s Special Warfare Command.
An autopsy report said Navy SEAL trainee Kyle Mullen, 24, died as a result of acute pneumonia and cardiac arrest, with his enlarged heart being a contributing factor. The report said his heart was more than twice the size of a normal adult male’s, which also played a role in his death following “Hell Week” — the five-and-a-half-day test that comes during the first phase of assessment for SEAL candidates striving to get into the Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL, or BUD/S, class. The grueling training was held at the Naval Special Warfare Training Center in Coronado, California.
The medical examiner’s autopsy report found that there was no evidence of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) in Mullen’s system and that they were not a contributing cause of death. The report includes several interviews with Mullen’ classmates, who described his deteriorating health in the last two days of the test, during which he was observed coughing up large amounts of blood, struggling to breathe and rapidly gaining weight due to bloating. His death instead has shined a light on the brutal Hell Week that pushes SEAL candidates to their limits. The test involves basic underwater demolition, survival and other combat tactics, and sailors get just two two-hour sleep periods during the event.
Classmates described Mullen coughing up pink liquid and filling a 32-ounce bottle with it. According to witnesses, the 24-year-old was bloated and his skin was turning bluish. Another said he was in “full messed-up mode” and that while Mullen appeared to be “in good spirits” that final day, he was “in the worst medical shape out of anyone in the class.”
During the final medical checks after the test ended, his lungs were deemed “abnormal” and he went to the barracks in a wheelchair due to swelling in his legs.
The report said his condition worsened, and a medical officer on duty recommended they call 911, but that wasn’t done. According to the report, candidates are often wary of going to a hospital or seeking outside medical help because it could get them disqualified from the class. About 90 minutes later, as he got worse, they called 911. Other changes that have been made include advanced cardiology screening of SEAL candidates for heart problems; pneumonia prevention shots of Bicillin; more medical scrutiny after Hell Week ends; increased training on performance-enhancing drugs; and expanded training for instructors.

Bucs rookie Cade Otton forges ahead after sudden loss of his mother
October 5, 2022
Tampa, FL — The woman eschewed precise measurements, befitting someone who shoehorned two lifetimes into 50 years. Sally Otton kept adding ingredients — motherhood, triathlons, teaching, coaching, puzzles, projects in the yard — until they spilled over the sides of her buoyant existence. Stands to reason then, she prided herself a culinary renegade, with no use for measuring cups. “She eyeballed everything,” Bucs rookie tight end Cade Otton, the middle of Sally’s three kids, said with a smile. “And it always turned out great.”
The glimmer in Otton’s eyes Wednesday belied a numbness not likely to dissipate in short order. Though diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease a dozen years ago, Sally Otton had seemed to be improving in recent weeks, her son said. Hence the reason Sept. 20 remains a blur. Two days after her son made his first NFL reception, in a 20-10 win at New Orleans on Sept. 18, Sally passed away suddenly at her home in Tumwater, Washington. “I had no idea (of her illness) until maybe a couple months ago,” said Bucs second-year edge rusher Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, who arrived at the University of Washington in the same recruiting class as Cade (2017) and got to know the Otton family. That’s the craziest thing, I never knew. She seemed very strong.”

‘Huge loss for the world’: Lakota cultural bearer Kevin Locke passes on
October 5, 2022
Kevin Locke — renowned hoop dancer, flute player and educator of Lakota language and culture — died suddenly Friday at the age of 68 after suffering an asthma attack. Those who knew and loved him say Locke spent a lifetime working to preserve his people’s cultural practices and beliefs and leaves behind friends and relatives across the world. “He’s loved throughout the world,” said his son, Ohíye S’a Locke. “He’s a legend among our people. He’s going to be remembered forever.” He spent time in Alaska and Colorado before moving to the Standing Rock Reservation, where he began learning to speak Lakota from elders whom he interviewed. Eventually, he became nearly fluent in Lakota, despite it being his second language.
He said his father had returned to his hotel room in Hill City, South Dakota, on Friday. But he suffered an asthma attack and asked the clerk at the front desk to call 911. Although he had a pulse in the ambulance, he died before he got to the hospital, Ohíye S’a Locke said. Locke was very health conscious, ran three to four miles a day, didn’t smoke and drank water constantly, his son said. “His passing, it was sudden,” Ohíye S’a Locke said. “Nobody expected it.” He said he got the opportunity to speak to his father just two hours before he died. Locke was taking a walk in the Black Hills and was talking to his son by video phone. He told his son that the Lakota people believe the Black Hills are sacred and that the Creator lives there. Because of that, Lakota people don’t like to stay in the Black Hills because it’s too close to heaven, Locke told his son. “He said if you died, you didn’t want to get distracted,” Ohíye S’a Locke said.

Grandson of 'Bonanza' actor Michael Landon fatally struck by Metro bus in Rancho Palos Verdes
October 6, 2022 9:24PM
Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. - The daughter of the late actor Michael Landon, who is best known for his roles in hit TV shows like "Bonanza" and "Little House on the Prairie," is asking for a possible witness in the death of her son to come forward and help in the investigation. Shawna Landon's son, 24-year-old Dylan Lupia, was struck and killed by a Los Angeles County Metro bus on Aug. 17 as he was walking in the bike lane of Palos Verde Drive South, near the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes. The driver of that bus, according to Shawna Landon, continued driving, only stopping about a mile and a half later to call in a report that his bus had been vandalized.
"How could you not see that you hit someone? How could you not see that you hit a human being and then just leave him on the side of the road?" said a tearful Shawna Landon. "There's no possible way he couldn't see him coming, walking towards him, and to not pull over and stop or call 911 ... It's not humane. It's unfathomable." The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department tells Eyewitness News it's investigating and has not ruled out a criminal case, but is still awaiting reports from the coroner's office.

Syl's Owner Don 'Duke' Williams Dies, Restaurant Closed Sunday
October 6, 2022
Rockdale, IL — Don "Duke" Williams, a well-known figure in the Joliet area restaurant community and the owner of Syl's Restaurant & Lounge in Rockdale since 2019, died unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon in the emergency room at St. Joe's hospital in Joliet. Rockdale Police Chief Robert Dykstra told Joliet Patch that he was one of three police officers to respond to Syl's on Wednesday afternoon after 911 dispatchers were notified of someone in the restaurant who was unconscious but still breathing. However, within 30 seconds of the 911 call, dispatchers learned the unconscious person had stopped breathing. Dykstra said he and other emergency personnel used an AED —which is an automated external defibrillator — trying to revive Williams as the East Joliet Fire Department ambulance crew was on en route. "He was having a heart attack," Dykstra said. "Three officers, including myself, were there within a couple minutes. We had the AED on him right away. "He clearly was having a heart attack in our view."

On Wednesday, September 21, 2022, Carlos Antonio Pardo, devoted husband, loving father, son, and brother, and doting grandfather, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 60, in St. Louis, Missouri. Carlos was a remarkable individual with a truly gentle and genuine soul who was capable of unlimited kindness and empathy. He viewed the world through the lens of a glass half full, driven in part by his twin passions for his family and for digital technologies. It was hard for anyone who met Carlos, not to instantly like him for his quiet, yet fierce intelligence, his humility and his infectious sense of humor driven by a love of truly awful dad jokes. A devoted husband, Carlos would always be by Debbie’s side, whether it was going to the gym at 5:30 am, attending happy hour with friends, hitching up the camper and spending a weekend at a state park, spending many hours in deep conversation about philosophy, life and love, or going on vacation to one of the many US national parks, Acadia, Glacier, Grand Canyon, Grand Teton and Yellowstone, to name but a few. A loving father, he deeply cherished his two children, seeing them as his greatest contribution to the world.

Gregory Alan Drake, 48
[no date]
It is with great sadness that our family announces the sudden and unexpected death of Greg Drake. He passed from this life into eternal life on September 10 at his home in Bishop, CA. He was the sweetest, most kind, courteous, compassionate, generous person you could ever meet, always lending a helping hand whenever he could. Greg loved living in Bishop where he could go fishing anytime he wished. He loved coming home with his catch making his favorite meal, "fish tacos." I can picture him in heaven asking the disciple abut their fishing skills and experiences. Greg had lots of stories to tell himself.

F*ck this is hard to take,
(harder than taking the vaxxx)
no winks, no smiles...
Not sure this young Marine was listed in September since his death was delayed from being announced at the time of his death. Reasoning so his family could grieve. Which seems to be yet another weird thing happening, delays in announcements of people passing. The politician from I believe IL waited months before announcing his daughter died.
