Rick Scheckman, David Letterman’s Longtime Film Coordinator, Dies at 67

Rick “Shecky” Scheckman, who for more than 30 years came up with oddball footage for David Letterman’s late-night programs while also finding his way on camera for wacky comedy bits, has died. He was 67. Scheckman had “multiple health issues” and died early Friday morning at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, his friend Leonard Maltin told The Hollywood Reporter.

'NYPD Blue' actor Austin Majors in 2009.

Austin Majors, a former child actor best known for his role on “NYPD Blue,” has died, according to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s office. He was 27. He died February 11, 2023. The cause of death is still under investigation, according to medical examiner records. His family called Majors “an artistic, brilliant, and kind human being, who loved camping and fishing, graduated from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts and had a passion for directing and music producing. Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever."

News of the guitarist's death was shared by his wife Annie on his Facebook page earlier today (March 10). The post reads: "With a broken and heavy heart, I want to share that the love of my life, my best friend and husband, Jimmy, passed away Wednesday morning. He was not alone as I was with him along with a few close friends until the end. He will be truly missed and no one can ever replace the love I have for him. May he rest in peace.”

Mamaleek’s Eric Alan Livingston Dies at 38

Mamaleek member Eric Alan Livingston has died

Eric Alan Livingston, a member of the experimental metal group Mamaleek, has died, the band wrote on social media yesterday. The multi-instrumentalist had played with the group since 2015 and joined as a full-time member in 2019. The musician’s cause of death has not been announced. Livingston was 38 years old. Mamaleek emerged as a duo in 2008 and released a pair of albums in quick succession, one self-titled, the other called Fever Dream. Mamaleek acknowledged links to Beirut and San Francisco’s Bay Area and were said to be brothers.

Felton Spencer, the former first-round draft pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves, has died at the age of 55. His cause of death has not been announced. Spencer was selected sixth overall by the Timberwolves in the 1990 NBA Draft, Minnesota's second year as an NBA franchise. He spent three seasons with Minnesota before spending the the final ten seasons in the NBA with the Jazz, Magic, Warriors, Spurs and Knicks.

We hope that the cherished and treasured memories of Luis will be a comfort for his family and friends during this devastating time."

Ben, a graduate student athletic trainer from Lebanon Valley College working with the XFL Athletic Training Department, was an integral part of preparing our Battlehawks and Defenders for the season. His infectious smile in the locker room and passion for his work will be deeply missed by all the players and staff who had the opportunity to work with him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

The founder of the Chicago Italian beef shop that inspired FX´s "The Bear," Joseph Zucchero, has died at 69, his son said. Mr. Beef, the no-frills sandwich joint in Chicago's River North, has been a neighborhood staple for decades. But it became a national sensation after it was portrayed by the gritty, fast-paced show released in June 2022. Zucchero died unexpectedly on March 1 at Rush Medical Center while undergoing treatment for cancer, said his son, Christopher Zucchero, who is a co-owner of the restaurant. "He was supposed to come home," he said.

Miami, FL – Miami Police Department (MPD) Officer Joel Perez died on Feb. 13 after suffering an unexpected medical emergency, according to his department. The MPD confirmed the 47-year-old officer’s death in a press release the following morning. “It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely passing of one our own, Officer Joel Perez,” the department said. “He has served his community for over 25 years and was a highly decorated officer who has patrolled in all districts throughout his career.” His exact cause of death was not immediately released.

Members of the Columbia, S.C., Police Department are in mourning due to the unexpected passing of one of their officers. Police Chief Skip Holbrook announced the passing of Columbia Master Police Officer Tony Rhinehart on March 2, 2023. Rhinehart was off duty at the time of his death, which has been attributed to natural causes. Rhinehart was a Columbia native and had come out of retirement to be assigned to the CPD Traffic Safety Unit under the Special Operations Bureau. He had served the City of Columbia from 1995 to 2012.

I (Amber) just turned 26 and my brother (Michael) is 24. Never in a million years did we think we'd be planning our dad's funeral," the post says.

Oakdale Elementary School in Waukegan [Illinois] is mourning the sudden and unexpected death of a 25-year-old teacher who died on Friday, school officials said. Principal Catalina Quinones-Nelson sent a message to parents, saying the school was “saddened to report” the death of Kaitlin Schaumberger. Schaumberger was a “much-beloved” teacher who began working at Oakdale Elementary School in August. “At this time we have no further details to share, and we are asking that everyone respect the Schaumberger family’s privacy, as we all work to cope with this tragedy,” Quinones-Nelson added.

Atlanta, Ga. - A Cobb County charter school is reeling after a special education teacher died unexpectedly. News of Kimberly Bonner’s death was announced through a letter sent to Ridgeview Charter Middle School this afternoon. Bonner was a 7th-grade special education teacher at the school in her 40s. In the letter, Principal Opie Blackwell said, “in the six years she has been at the school, Ms. Bonner made a tremendous impact on our team. She was a phenomenal teacher who cared about the community.” A cause of death has not been announced.

St. Louis County Judge Sally Tarnowski dies suddenly on Florida vacation

March 7, 2023

Duluth, MN — Duluth judge Sally Tarnowski, known for her mental health advocacy, died suddenly on Monday while vacationing in Florida, according to a news release from the Minnesota Judicial Branch. Tarnowski, who was appointed by Gov. Tim Pawlenty in 2007, was Chief Judge of the Sixth Judicial District from 2016-2020 and actively serving as a St. Louis County judge. She was first elected in 2008 and her most recent term ran through 2027. "All of us within the Minnesota courts community are devastated by the loss of Judge Tarnowski," said Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea. "Beyond her exemplary service to Minnesota, Judge Tarnowski was a vibrant person whose commitment to justice shined through in everything she did." There has been no immediate information on the cause of death.

Driver suffers heart attack, crashes SUV in Thurston County Saturday morning, WSP says

A 66-year-old man suffered a medical emergency and crashed while driving east on US 12 in south Thurston County Saturday morning, according to Washington State Patrol. Eugene A. Gatsos of Oakville died at the scene. His 61-year-old female passenger, also from Oakville, was not injured, according to State Patrol. About 9:25 a.m. Saturday, Gatsos was headed east on US 12, approaching Grand Mound.  Troopers say he suffered a heart attack, then drove off the road to the left and crashed into a guardrail on the westbound shoulder.

64-Year-Old Woman Dies Hiking Desert Trail in Big Bend National Park, Texas

March 8, 2023

A 64-year-old woman is dead following a tragic hiking accident in Big Bend National Park, Texas. The unnamed hiker was walking along the Hot Springs Canyon Trail on Monday when she "collapsed and was unresponsive," park authorities shared in a release. It added that the park's Communications Center received a call for emergency assistance at around 2:45 p.m. and that a team of Park Rangers and a U.S. Border Patrol Agent found the hiker at 3:30 p.m. and immediately administered CPR. A U.S. Border Patrol helicopter was also called in to provide emergency transport of the patient but all attempts to revive the hiker were sadly unsuccessful, the release added.

He leaves behind a wife and four children under seven.  Just the thought of writing such words about such a special person is unfathomable and beyond anyone's wildest imagination. With his sudden Petirah the world is shocked. What's even worse is the thought of Chaim's incredible wife Miriam (Citronenbaum) and four beautiful children all under the age of 7 having their life turned upside down with no father to turn to.  Chaim Z'L is the 33-year-old son of Lisa and Yaakov Elefant of Brooklyn NY.

First and foremost, Chris loved his family more than life itself. His love for his wife and children showed through in everything he did. Chris looked like a tough guy, but deep down under layers of sarcasm he had a heart of gold. He loved to keep the room laughing and always made good out of the bad.
