Community mourns loss of Al Dantes Jr.
October 22, 2022
Marquette, MI - It might seem like those who work in the news business would become desensitized to the awful things that happen in the world. After all, we see it and report on it every day, right? But nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, we understand all too well that death, especially a sudden death, leaves a hole in the lives of that person’s family, friends and community. And at no time do we understand that more clearly than when that person lived and worked in our community.
Such is the case with Allan “Al” Dantes Jr., who left behind six daughters. He died when a semi plowed into the Holiday gas station in L’Anse where Al was getting gas. Senseless, tragic, frustrating … no words can really describe how the feeling of losing someone so suddenly. Especially someone like Al. By all accounts, he was an accomplished rally race driver and a just plain stand-up guy. According to his obituary, Al’s motto, “Do it for the kids,” shined through in his volunteer work.

October 16, 2022
As friends and relatives mourn the “unbearable loss” of a Warren, MI, father and his son who died together in a crash at Macomb Community College, a fundraising effort is underway for the family. Stephen Wee, 46, and his 18-year-old son, Xander, died Monday afternoon in a rollover crash on the grounds of MCC’s South Campus on Hayes and 12 Mile roads. Stephen Wee had just picked his son up from classes at MCC when he encountered a medical situation. His SUV struck several vehicles in college's parking lot, which is under construction before it rolled over and came to rest near an MCC sign. Xander Wee was a recent graduate of Warren Cousino High School who was taking college classes at MCC. Warren police said autopsies were scheduled to be conducted on the two Tuesday.

Former Reo Speedwagon bassist Gregg Philbin has died
October 24, 2022
Former REO Speedwagon bassist Gregg Philbin, who played on the band's first six studio albums and appeared on 1977's Live: You Get What You Play For, has died. Singer Kevin Cronin paid tribute to his former bandmate in a statement shared by the band. "No one should underestimate the Philbin Factor in the evolution of REO Speedwagon," Cronin wrote. "When Gregg left the band in 1977, he took with him the prog-leaning extended instrumental section aspect of the REO sound.
"Gregg approached the bass guitar much like legendary Who bassist John Entwistle," he continued. "They both played the bass as more of a lead instrument. But as the songs Gary Richrath and I were writing became more compact, and needing the bass to play a more traditional role of locking with the drums, Gregg's style became an issue, and he would leave the band."
Despite their musical conflicts, Cronin was quick to praise Philbin's personality and offer his sympathies to those close to the bassist. "All that said, Gregg was a smart, funny, charming guy, and you would be hard-pressed to find a more savvy individual," he concluded. "His health had been an issue for some time, and today his soul is freed. We all loved Gregg, mourn his death and send our condolences to his surviving family members and friends. Today is a sad day in REO World."

Jacob Mayfield, 27
October 19, 2022
Kingwood, Texas - Jacob Dillon Mayfield was born in Plano, Texas on August 11, 1995 and passed away suddenly on October 10, 2022. He was 27 years old and he will be terribly missed. It was at Kingwood High School where Jacob met the love of his life, Rachel Duncan. They were inseparable for over 10 years; his friends became hers and her friends became his. They both attended University of Texas and began building a life together in Houston after college. Both hard working, they supported each other while Jacob began his career and Rachel attended medical school. They achieved a recent milestone when Jacob purchased their first home, with engagement and marriage around the corner. Jacob enjoyed downtime with friends and family, going to concerts, streaming shows with Rachel and hosting friends in their new home for take-out and an occasional board game. You would have to stay two steps ahead if you played Monopoly with Jacob, because he was coming for you. Jacob and Rachel traveled when they could, their favorite spot was New York City to visit friends and wanted to travel more. He also gave back, volunteering as a speech and debate judge at local high school tournaments and as a mentor at the Boys and Girls Club of America, wanting to make sure young people knew that anyone willing to work hard could achieve success.
No cause of death reported.

I just lost my brother-in-law. He was in perfect health. No problems whatsoever. He took two COVID-19 injections in the spring of 2021. He went out for coffee with a friend but before they arrived his head slumped down and he was suddenly gone. Thank God he wasn't driving the car they were in . The autopsy report says his death was due to thrombocytopenia. He never had that diagnosis. But remember when the New York Times did the article about 37 people who developed thrombocytopenia within weeks of getting there COVID injections? A doctor in South Florida passed away two weeks after his pfizer injection due to thrombocytopenia. The NYT covered that story too. I know in my heart it could not possibly be a coincidence that my perfectly healthy brother-in-law dropped dead nearly 18 months after his last COVID-19 injection. It's very horrifying for me to know that the concerns many have about the inability of the spike protein to stop activating with the adjuvants in this injection could be ticking time bombs in so many people, including my own brother-in-law. I already reached out to Dr. Ryan Cole and his office got back to me and said they don't have a protocol yet to test to see if my brother-in-law's death was indeed related to the vaccine. But they're working on it, and since we did have an autopsy, when they get their protocol in place, they should be able to test my brother-in-law's slides.
When I heard about Leslie Jordan on NPR today, I listened to see if he died from a vax incident as many many are these days. NPR reported that he died in a car crash. "Oh," I said to myself, "maybe this one is genuinely NOT a vax incident. Of course they left out the information - that he had crashed after having "some kind of medical incident" and smashed into a wall. Thanks, Mark, for putting in the details the media deliberately leaves out.
