Influential Waterman Loch Eggers Passes Away on Maui
November 1, 2022
When I heard that Loch Eggers had passed away of a heart attack while hiking on Maui last weekend, a Darrell Wong image immediately popped into my head: Loch on a Naish stand-up board, crouched in a very large, beautiful blue barrel with a heavenly vision in front of him. Having spoken with Loch about that particular wave years ago, I couldn’t recall if he’d made it out. But only one thing really mattered – the barrel was big enough to fit a 10-foot SUP in. And so it personified the influential waterman to a T: always charging, whether on a SUP or a traditional open canoe. Yes, Loch loved girthy waves. According to friends, he suffered a heart attack alone while hiking one of his favorite spots, Lahaina Pali Trail overlooking Maalaea Harbor about a mile above Honoapiilani Highway. He was apparently flown out of the area on a rescue helicopter before being pronounced dead. Loch Eggers was 55 years old.

With his warmhearted nature and exuberant smile he never met a stranger. In his spare time he loved mining for gold and silver, playing video games with his wife and friends, and learning to carve wood. He was a licensed and certified arborist, and owned and operated Great Cedar Tree Service, providing snow removal services in the winter.
No cause of death reported.

From a reader's email:
Here is another sudden death - heart attack - to add to your list. Dylan Rizk, our beloved arborist in the warm months, and “snowplow guy” in the winter. He was super fit and a super nice 41 year old guy. Apparently he just collapsed, was rushed to the hospital and died. His wife was given no other explanation other than “he must have had heart issues.” Of course we know that is not true. I will miss him dearly. His wife Angela is absolutely devastated.

Savanna Joyce Palesotti, 24
October 29, 2022
Savanna Joyce Palesotti, 24, beloved daughter of Tony and Jennifer Palesotti of St Augustine, FL passed away on October 8th, 2022, at Southeast Health Systems, Brunswick, GA after she was Med-Evaxed by the Coast Guard from the yacht on which she was working. The Ocean, whether working, fishing, scuba diving, or hunting for shells & shark’s teeth with her mom, was her “Happy Place” and where she chose to spend her life. A Coast Guard licensed Master Captain since she was 19, Savanna had already traveled the Caribbean, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the US East coast extensively, aboard a variety of boats. Savanna’s dream was to work as Captain aboard a large yacht, similar to the ones on which she has been serving as a crew member. Until recently she has served as a Captain for the family business, while she checked off the boxes of things that would make her resume stand out above others, in search of that “next step” job. Things like firefighting, survival training, first aid/CPR, engine and systems maintenance, navigation, fire suppression systems, advanced scuba and anything else she could learn. Special thanks to Captain Guy Spear for his mentorship and leadership and to the US Coast Guard for their valiant efforts to save the life of this sweet, energetic soul.

Edwin L. Goff, retired Villanova University associate dean and director of honors program, has died at 76
May 30, 2022
Edwin L. Goff, 76, a retired associate dean, philosophy professor, and director of Villanova University’s honors program, died April 22 at his Havertown, PA, home from coronary artery disease. Dr. Goff was credited with increasing the university’s academic reputation through its honors program, said his son Phillip Atiba Goff. He “grew the honors program from a small operation to a national model for undergraduate achievement, stewarding dozens of students through successful applications to Rhodes, Marshall, Truman and Goldwater Scholarships,” said a statement provided by the family. During his 20 years of leadership, the statement said, more Villanova students won prestigious fellowships than in the 153 years prior. Villanova was considered a regional school before he took over the honors program,” his son said. “Now it is ranked in the top 50 universities nationally.” Dr. Goff, who held a doctorate degree in philosophy, began teaching at Villanova in 1970, and remained at the university for 45 years until he retired in 2015.
A reader asked in an email:
"Did my Villanova University professor die at home “from coronary artery disease” as the Philadelphia Inquirer states or did he die at home suddenly from a heart attack/cardiac arrest?"
I wish there was amnesty for the dead that they could come back. All a bad dream.
A few weeks ago there was a car crash where a Tesla went through a store front. A few days ago a friend said a car jumped curb and hit a person near his shop. He said it didn't make the news. He said he brought that point up to a friend who believe those who question the MSM are kooks and tried to explain how MSM picks and chooses which stories are relevant. So you will be fired up to be upset by a story that isn't local and be completely unaware of a local story that is relevant - like weird car crashes.
