In memory of those who 'died suddenly,' in Canada, August 29-September 5
Captain of a junior hockey team died at 19, no cause reported; a Peterborough cop died on vacation ("heart-related"); and 185 others died, of heart attacks, brief cancers, strokes, or nothing
CANADA
A note from our lead Canada researcher:
As high as it is—higher even than the toll in Italy, although Canada has a much smaller population—the weekly toll that we have been recording in these compilations is much lower than it ought to be, due to the terseness of obituaries from some large populations.
Specifically, we have had trouble finding data on the “sudden deaths” of Asians, East Indians and Jews throughout the country (three large minorities), and of the Filipinos in Alberta. The death notices from those communities are less detailed than those from the general population.
There is a similar void of information in the Territories—especially about the large indigenous community, whom Trudeau’s police have sought to “vaccinate” by force. It is extremely difficult to find death notices of any kind for that community, whose rate of “sudden deaths” may well be hidden.
What all this means, in short, is that the true rate of “sudden deaths” in Canada is probably much higher than the quite high rate that we’ve recorded here.
Captain of junior hockey team in Ayr, Ont. dead at age 19
August 31, 2022
The 19-year-old captain of the Ayr Centennials junior hockey team died on Tuesday night, the team announced on Wednesday morning. “The Ayr Centennials are devastated to announce that our captain Eli Palfreyman passed away last night,” Brian Shantz, the vice-president of the Centennials, said in a statement. “We are asking for your prayers and support for Eli’s family and each of our players. Our Centennials organization and the community of Ayr are in mourning.”
He says the team has reached out to medical staff and grief professionals to support members of the organization and credited the response from Waterloo paramedics. “Eli had the best of care from our medical staff and quick response from the ambulatory staff,” Shantz wrote. “Medical doctors will have more answers for us in the coming days. Out of respect for the family’s right for privacy we will not speculate on anything at this very difficult time. Cen’s nation also needs time to heal during this devastating time.”
Palfreyman was named captain of the team just five days before his death. The Cambridge native had served as assistant captain the prior season.

Since surviving his last bout with cancer almost 18 years ago, he lived with the motto “if, when, & where.” He would tell anyone, if he was able to get up in the morning and put on his pants he lived to see another day. He ticked off a great many people by saying “You’re only going to live until you die”. Even at home he was determined to do his share of the work as long as he was able with baling hay and regular chores on the farm.

He worked many summers as a firefighter, as a fire suppression worker and sometimes as a tree planter. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, anything related to Dragon Ball Z- his all-time favourite show. He loved playing dice, cards and bingo with family and friends.

Wayne "Butch" Torrens, 75
September 2, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of (Wilmar) Wayne “Butch” Torrens of Smiley, Saskatchewan, announce his unexpected passing on July 9, 2022. He was 75 years old. He was very active in the community and was well known in the surrounding farming community. He enjoyed visiting with his family, friends, as well as checking his crops and tending to his sweet peas. Butch always liked meeting new people and was genuinely interested in their “story”. He went to the Stampede parade on Friday and Saturday. After the rodeo he toured around the grounds on his own where he met more people and visited with them. That night he reflected on many things and people in his life, specifically his longtime friend who predeceased him. Within an hour he passed away after enjoying the “best stampede day he has ever had!”. We, the family, are so thankful we were able to spend time with him on his last few days, he did not suffer and was not alone.

I can't believe how many people are on this week's list for death in Canada. What the majority of deaths seem to have in common are:
Suddenly and or unexpectedly. Most of the people in this category appear to have been fit, active and very healthy. It appears to be in most age groups and both sexes.
After a brief illness. What brief illness.
After a short or brief battle with cancer.
Recently diagnosed with cancer.
But the shots are " safe and effective".
Since when does a 31 die suddenly and unexpectedly at home?! If it was drugs, it’d be mentioned.
I’d like to see a visual of the amount of deaths that are at home. I did hear Dr. Campbell say that the majority of excess deaths in UK occurred at home. That is very telling.
And good point about the different availability of reporting. From what I’ve heard, the indigenous people got this pushed on them HARD! Oh cause the government wants to help them!!! Just like they “helped” them through the residential school system.
And we’re Supposed To Be (simply) appalled and enraged about the alleged unmarked graves...
Disgusting.
