World Wrestling Entertainment, better known throughout the world as WWE, has legions of adoring fans. These fans were saddened today with word that one of the all-time greats of the wrestling world has passed away at the age of 68. Lenny Poffo, who was known in the ring as “The Genius” and “Leaping Lanny Poffo,” passed away, according to a statement by WWE. In addition to being an absolute legend of wrestling in his own right, he was the brother of perhaps the best known wrestler outside of Hulk Hogan and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Poffo’s brother is WWE Hall of Famer “Macho Man” Randy Savage. Poffo was one “of the first high-flyers in WWE.” He later “achieved some success as a fan favorite reading his own poetry and throwing his own poetry and throwing frisbees to the crowd.”

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Super Bowl champion running back dies

The team announced Wednesday that Sidney Thornton has died. He was 68 years old. Thornton was drafted by the Steelers in the second round of the 1977 NFL Draft. He was a member of two Super Bowl champion teams in 1979 and 1980. Thornton played his entire six-year career with the Steelers. He finished with 1,512 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, 515 receiving yards, and six receiving touchdowns. Thornton was named to Northwestern State’s N-Club Hall of Fame in 1986, meaning that he was one of the top athletes of their football program.

Normal, IL - The body of a 21-year-old college student was discovered in a creek a day after he was reported missing, Illinois cops say. Matthew Listman, a student at Illinois State University, had been reported missing to the Normal Police Department on Thursday, Jan. 26. Friday night, his body was discovered in a creek just a few blocks away from the college campus. A preliminary autopsy revealed Listman “died of drowning, in the setting of cold exposure,” police said.

Stephanie Reitz, UConn spokesperson and manager of media relations, said that UConn University Safety personnel responded at approximately 1:25 p m. Thursday to a report of a medical emergency at the North Campus Residence Hall complex on the Storrs campus. Upon their arrival, Reitz said that safety personnel were directed to a room where the student had been found unresponsive.

Robert Gardner Jr., a 17-year member of the department, died unexpectedly last week, according to the U.S. Fire Administration. Gardner, 55, was a former captain for the Charlestown-Richmond Fire Department and a former volunteer with the Hope Valley Ambulance Squad. Many of you already know that my brother, Greg was transported to the hospital from a cardiac arrest on Sunday. My brother was unresponsive and did not have a pulse, so my step dad, and the fire department performed CPR at the house before he was transported to Silverton, OR, and then Salem hospital. My brother remained unresponsive and had several more cardiac episodes. He is now in the ICU with swelling on his brain, and scans are showing little to no brain activity at this point. My brother is a firefighter, currently serving at a station in Scio. Previously, he served with Mt. Angel, as well as Silverton fire department.
Update: We want to thank everyone who prayed for our family. My brother Greg made it home to God today, and I know that he will find a Heavenly peace that can’t be found here on earth. We are so so happy for him, but obviously our hearts are hurting. Please turn those prayers for healing into prayers of comfort for my sweet mama, and for Greg’s Daughter, Kaydence. My brother was an organ donor, so even in his passing, he will be helping others and we are so proud of him!

A 14-year-old boy died after riding a bull for the first time Saturday in North Carolina. Local emergency personnel arrived at a rodeo event in King, just north of Winston-Salem, on Saturday night in response to a call about a cardiac arrest, WRAL-TV reported. The report said Denim Bradshaw “was riding a bull at the time of the call, but it is unclear what caused the cardiac arrest.” According to the Greensboro News & Record, Stokes County emergency management director Brandon Gentry said the teenager “was one of the participants when this happened. He was riding a bull and was thrown off.” Denim was lying unconscious in the rodeo ring when EMS workers arrived, Gentry said. The teenager was taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he was pronounced dead. Denim, a student at Walkertown Middle School, was making his first bull ride, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

Fountain man dies during Tallman area crash

Sheridan Township, MI — A 53-year-old Fountain area man died during a vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon, Jan. 27. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, emergency personnel were dispatched to Stolberg Road near Tallman Lake Road at 5:57 p.m. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 2007 Pontiac G6 had been traveling westbound on Stolberg Road when it ran off the road and struck a tree, causing minor damage to the vehicle. The 53-year-old driver was found unresponsive in the vehicle. “Despite medical attention, the driver passed away at the scene,” Cole said. “It is believed the driver passed away as a result of a medical emergency and not from injuries sustained in the crash.” Emergency crews responding to the crash included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Fountain Area Fire Department, and Life EMS. Cole said the crash remains under investigation.

In 2013, Jackson moved to Atlanta to become a competitive cheerleader and cheerleading coach with Stingrays Gym. He coached numerous teams, including the World Championship Grape team. During this time, he attended Kennesaw State University and Chattahoochee Technical College. Jackson later moved to Nashville to coach while he worked as a manager at Turnip Truck, a natural foods grocery. He also traveled the country choreographing for countless cheer teams. He moved to Charlottesville six months ago and worked at Marigold Restaurant in Keswick, Virginia.

At the present time, Dale was employed at Myakka Pines Golf Course, Port Charlotte, FL, where he took great pride in keeping the course greens well-groomed and playing golf with his friends and co-workers.

Urbana, IL - Gabriel William Bemount, 41, formerly of Paxton, passed away at 12:51 a.m. Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, surrounded by his loved ones.

As you know my son Gabe died unexpectedly at the age of 41, January 27th 2023 of a massive heart attack. Gabe went to work and collapsed while in the break room. CPR was performed on him till paramedics got there. Gabe was rushed into surgery where two stents were placed. After many attempts Gabe was put on comfort care and lost his life. Gabe didn't have a life insurance policy from his workplace. I'm asking for a little help to cover the cost of my Sons arrangements. You all have given us so much already with your kind words and reaching out. Thank you again so much.
What's crazy is these are just the ones published; have four friends of friends over last two months, all sub 53 yrs old that passed suddenly and no obits. Wonder how many more in this category?
