Grenville Davey, British sculptor, has died, aged 60
April 29, 2022
When a retrospective of the work of past Turner Prize winners was held at Tate Britain in 2007, Grenville Davey’s was shown next to Damien Hirst’s. The latter’s sculpture, Mother and Child Divided (1993)—a four-part vitrine holding a bisected cow and calf preserved in formaldehyde—retained the power to shock that had helped it win Hirst the prize in 1995. Davey’s Tate submission, by contrast, was so self-effacing that it was easy to walk past it without noticing.
Grenville Davey died, suddenly, on his Essex farm, after a trip to the south-west. He is survived by a son, Sennen, from his marriage to the sculptor Victoria Burton. “It’s so lovely to be home, my own bed, gentle rain, garden, future,” he had written that day. “I will sleep well, and dream.”
Cause of death not reported.

Two musicians:
Ric Parnell, drummer who played Mick Shrimpton in 'This Is Spinal Tap,' has died at 70
May 2, 2022
English drummer Ric Parnell, who was best known for his role as Mick Shrimpton in the This Is Spinal Tap movie, has died at the age of 70.
Parnell was an accomplished musician who played in a number of bands before landing the role as Shrimpton, who, in the film, died of spontaneous combustion and was one of several of the band's drummers who met odd fates. In reality, he toured with Spinal Tap as Shrimpton's "twin brother" Ric Shrimpton and played on their first two albums, This Is Spinal Tap (1984) and Break Like the Wind (1992).
No cause of death reported.

Dominic Hopkins obituary
May 1, 2022
My friend Dominic Hopkins, who has died suddenly aged 57, was a dedicated, popular and inspirational violinist who played for many years with the Norwich Philharmonic Orchestra and was its leader from 2008 to 2016.
I first met Dominic in his busking days, when Mozart, Pachelbel and Vivaldi filled the air, and our paths would often cross in concert hall or swimming pool. Dominic swam regularly for therapy and pleasure but, following a medical emergency while swimming, was taken to hospital, where he died the next day.

Mum, 39, dies at cold water therapy camp popular with Coleen Rooney and other celebs
April 27, 2022
A mum died after plunging into a river at a cold water therapy camp popular with celebrities. The 39-year-old - who has not been named - was pulled from the water and given CPR at Breatheolution in Buxworth, Derbyshire on Monday.
She had been acclimatising to the icy cold temperatures in the River Goyt during a two-hour session alongside a couple of pals, all from Manchester.
The group had been joined by therapist Kevin O'Neill, who runs the camp, which charges up to £200 per person.
The mum-of-three is understood to have collapsed before being helped out of the river by Mr O'Neill, who performed CPR.
An air ambulance landed at the camp but the woman later died in hospital.
Mr O'Neill told the Sun: "I am heartbroken. I've not slept and I'm finding it hard to process. I cannot stop thinking about her family. It's tragic."
He explained he had told the group to gently lower themselves into the water after getting used to the water temperature.
He said the woman was laughing before suddenly collapsing.
Mr O’Neill added: "I have taken 1,100 people into the water over two years and nothing like this has ever happened. It’s a freak incident and very sadly someone has lost their life."
Everyone who visits the camp signs a waiver and is asked about their medical history.
He previously said: "When you submerge your whole body into cold water it goes through a lot of physiological and chemical changes. You can soon get into trouble."

George tragically died a sudden death while sleeping beside his partner. Mr Panagi was found having passed away at the family home by his wife of 14 years, Ali.
The 41-year-old told StokeonTrentLive: "The alarm was going off so I reached over George to turn it off, he felt a bit cold so I pulled the duvet over him. It felt different so I jumped out of bed and went around to his side. He was lying on his side and his lips were blue.
“I rang for an ambulance and started doing CPR. I carried on until the paramedics got here which was about 20 minutes. He was pronounced dead at around 8 am. I was like 'this can’t be happening'. He had underlying health issues but everything was OK. He had just been to the hospital for a check up and it was fine, it was all very sudden."
George owned The Village Chippy in Audlem and tragically leaves behind his children Max, aged 10, Alexi, aged 12 and Paige, 26. His wife said: “I am lost for words and still can’t understand why it happened. It’s just a waiting game to hear back from the coroner.”

Family's tribute to Burton 'gentle giant' who died suddenly at 33
April 27, 2022
The broken-hearted family of a man who has died suddenly at the age of 33 have spoken of how he "lit up any room". Zia Ul Haque, who was known to everyone as Zia Khalid, was found at his family home, in Derby Street, Burton, having suffered a cardiac arrest on Monday, April 25.
Former Abbot Beyne school pupil Mr Khalid had previously worked at Sainsbury's; Cineworld in Burton; the Burton Mail; Burton Albion Football Club; and latterly Derby College in the marketing department. Mr Khalid's uncle, Shaid Hussain, owner of Good News in the town centre, said the family was shocked at his sudden passing. He said: "It happened all of a sudden.
"He had had a bug for a few weeks but it was nothing severe and he was resting at home. His father had gone to work that day and Zia called him telling him everything was fine. However, later his brother knocked on the door and there was no answer.
"We are just shocked. He was a gentle giant who lit up any room he walked into and had a great personality. He was a kind and loving man. His mother died in 2014 and he went through a tough time but always had a smile on his face. He was close to her."

David McKechnie, 45: Insightful deputy foreign editor with a gift for friendship
April 29, 2022
David McKechnie, the deputy foreign editor of The Irish Times who has died unexpectedly aged 45, was a master story teller. This gift was central to what made him a superb writer, an insightful editor and a treasured friend of many.
McKechnie began his career in journalism as a sports writer for the Sunday Tribune in 1996. He moved through various production roles for the Sunday Times, the Guardian and The Irish Times before being appointed deputy foreign editor for The Irish Times in 2015.
As well as his work as an editor, McKechnie reported for the newspaper on the Fifa World Cup in Brazil in 2014, the Columbian peace process in 2017 and the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh in 2018.
McKechnie’s insatiable appetite for learning saw him return to study for a degree in art history and English at University College Dublin from 2006 to 2009 while continuing to work full time in The Irish Times. He went straight into a one year master’s degree in American literature at the university. It was during this year that he met a young Dutch woman, Lilian Dorst, who had come to Ireland to do a master’s degree in Anglo-Irish literature and drama in the English department at UCD.
The relationship between Dave and Lilian blossomed and in 2017, the couple married in the medieval church Sint-Nicolaaskapel in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, returning to live in Dublin thereafter.
The couple’s many plans for the summer of 2022 – which included camping, hiking and music festivals – were cut short when on his return from a short run one evening, he collapsed at home. His death seven days later in the Mater hospital was mourned by his family and a wide circle of friends from around the world.

Norman Surplus: Gentleman gyro pioneer was born adventurer
April 30, 2022
Norman Surplus's lifetime of adventure began even before he was born. It was February 1963, the height of the 'Big Freeze' that gripped Ireland that terrible winter, and the worst blizzard in living memory had left Larne under feet of snow. Nan Surplus was heavily pregnant with her third child and when the time came to go to hospital, her neighbours in Larne had to help dig a passage out from her home.
Norman would spend his whole life charting new paths and overcoming challenges, both in the business world and in his passion for exploration.
He circled the world for the first time as a video game designer, visiting every Grand Prix circuit to photograph the tracks before painstakingly recreating them digitally.
However, it was after overcoming cancer in the early 2000s that he set off on undoubtedly his greatest adventure, taking to the skies to go where no airman had gone before.
Nine years and 27,000 miles later, he succeeded in becoming the first person to circumnavigate the globe in a gyrocopter and earned the place in the record books his life so richly deserved.
He recently completed a book, First Gyro, telling the full story of his exploits which can be pre-ordered at firstgyro.net.
Norman was 59 when he died suddenly on April 19 following a suspected heart attack.

Pierce O’Callaghan, former international race-walker and now head of competition management at World Athletics, said: “The news of the untimely passing of Sligo athletics official Ray Flynn has come as a major shock to everyone who knew him from Sligo and further afield and marks the end of an era in Sligo Athletics."

"Even the doctors don’t know the cause but they suspected it might have been a cardiac arrest.
"She was referred for a blood test because she said she was feeling weak and tired the past few days. She was also looking a bit pale so that’s why she went to hospital."
Aaliyah, 17, remembered her mum fondly, saying: "Her laugh was very distinct. It was my favourite thing. I remember her laugh when we went to Wexford with a family friend and they were playing games. It was beautiful."
Clondalkin woman Juliet who worked as a carer had to leave her job to look after her daughter Aisha who has special needs.
Aaliyah said: "It was a big turning point in our lives when mam left her job in 2015. My mum was Nigerian. She came to Ireland in 1998 after living in England. She has no family in Europe, they're all in Nigeria."
Now Aaliyah and her siblings are in the process of trying to get two of Juliet's sisters to come to Ireland for the funeral.

These are so sad. Not sure if they all correlate to the jab, but hard to imagine this many young people dying suddenly. Unsure if this has happened historically. They likely wouldn't have had ill effects from getting Covid.
A friend of ours, recovering from cancer and appearing to do well, suffered a sudden heart attack and died a few days ago.
I know that the family were all fully jabbed, but there certainly are a lot of "coincidences" around at the moment.
