I was on a federal jury in the early 80s. There were 5 young people, like me, and 4 retirees on the jury. They pretty much went along with anything we (the young group) said. I was horrified. For the most part they were open-eyed napping during the short trial. In deliberations, they let us do the talking, offered little or nothing to the conversation and went along with our votes. I couldn’t believe it; I went in thinking at least one of the olds would dominate the jury. It’s a good thing we were sincere about our duties.

If I am ever unfortunate enough to be on trial, I would go for a bench trial (judge, no jury).
