I’m going to a funeral on Wednesday for a 44 year old woman diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2023, a month after her birthday, 8-9 months ago. She would be 45 in July. Her doctor acknowledged she has many more younger women with breast cancer these days. Needless to say, her parents (mother and I friends since early childhood), her husband & children age 8 and 5, and large extended family are devastated.
That’s what breaks my heart. Knowing that every family listed in Mark's essays are left devastated. Kids losing their dad or losing their mom and destroying their happy life.
